It’s been a span of over a year and 3 visits and I can officially say I love this place. Venture with me on this journey… Year ago: A friend came by my place for drinks and after realizing a huge miscommunication(apparently, I was suppose to cook us dinner? I will neither confirm nor deny this) we decided to go out. She’s the type who cooks most of her meals and is very picky when it comes to eating out. We brain storm for a bit… She says, «Oh, let’s go to P’cheen!» I say, «P’who?» She says, «What?! You’ve never been there?» I say, «P’where?» She says, «Ok, that’s enough. Let’s go.» I say, «P’k» Thursday night, almost 9pm, not empty, not crowded. Good, calm vibe, and a DJ was setting up. Nice. We grab a table and my friend orders like there’s no tomorrow. Moonshine sampler(fabulous. never had moonshine before. always thought it was supposed to taste like gasoline. not heerrreee!) Sauteed kale, butter/garlic mushrooms, thai chicken wings, lobster mac n cheese. With every. bite. I was like, «Oh my God *chew, chew, chew*, this is sooo good! *chew, chew, chew* How have I never been here!» *chew, chew, chew* The owner/executive chef, Alex, came over and checked on us, was very cool, welcomed me warmly when my friend told him it was my first time, and chatted with us a bit. Didn’t linger, which I appreciated, because, no offense to him(and also a compliment to him) I wanted to get back to stuffing my face in the most classy way possible. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and loved the DJ. October: Hadn’t been able to make it back but knew the boyfriend would like it. Owner Alex greeted us at the door, welcomed me back and thanked me for bringing the BF(he didn’t actually say«the BF»…it was more like, «Oh, hey, yeah, man. Cool. Yeah, nice to meet ya, man») We sat at the bar and so glad we did. Two great guys were working back there. Very attentive and chill. And Owner Alex sent us a round of drinks. I MEAN… :-) Now, the amount of food that we ordered would seem like we were feeding a little league baseball team. But alas, the BF is just a really big guy. So he can put it away. And I love it because people just ASSUME that he eats most of it and I can get away with eating like a horse and not get caught. *Satisfied smirk, nodding head slowly* By the end of the meal, the BF was full, happy, buzzed, and impressed. Four things I personally think most people strive for in life. So getting it in a meal is preettttyyyy nice. He was so impressed that he asked me if we could come back soon(big deal. Huge.) Sure enough, 2 weeks later, we were at that bar, buzzed and happy. The ONLY reasons why I took a star away is due to 1.) the parking situation. It can be quite tough at times. Never impossible, just a little inconvenient. And 2.) The amount of butter used in some of the dishes, i.e. the kale. I totally get southern food. I think I was birthed into a sweet potato casserole. So I get it. But I do like to have something green or a little healthy-ish with my meals. I have found that the last 2 times(not the first, however… different chef, maybe?) that the kale was swimming in butter. Of course, it didn’t keep me from eating it(helllloooo, birthed into sweet potato casserole), but I was draining each bite and I will ask them from now on to please go easy on the stick. Much thanks, P’cheen. You got P’fans and P’regulars in us!

I recently went back to P’Cheen for more $ 4 moonshine cocktails and apparently they’re not allowed to sell them at a special price anymore(SADFACE!). Something about Atlanta liquor laws. BUT, the drinks are still worth the full price($ 8) and the food is amazing too. Get the Thai wings, and make sure to ask for bread or something to nom the extra sauce.

Last Saturday, we decided to head out to the Highland Ave area to grab a bite to eat. Anyway, we parked on the other end of the overpass on Highland Ave. The cross street is Glen Iris. While walking, we noticed a lot of broken automobile glass all over the walkway. Hmmm. Not a safe place, in my mind. We arrived at P’cheen and it was practically dead. We were seated by the guy in the picture above. Oh, he does love whiskey. I guess he had a drinking binge the night before was concerned that the smell was still coming out of his pores. «TMI»! He got the bartender to take our order, a round of beer. She came back and took our order for a Korean roasted pork appetizer. Nearly 20 minutes later, I went to the bar and spoke to the inattentive bartender. I advised her to cancel the order because it was taking toooooo long and to close out the tab. Got the tab and whiskey guy came by and stated that he got the beer and apologized. We got up and left. Strike one. Strike two-Highland Bakery. Oh, there is an endnote on the overpass on the HB review.

2day is homage to hip hop! 80s to 90s! :-) Every 1st Thursday is hip hop Thursday — several major ATL DJs/music masters line up to bless us with their gifts! So if you remember or want to hear what the original sounds were that we named hip hop from late 80s to early 90s, show up, eat, drink and be merry! The food is GREAT! And they serve moonshine! How much better does THAT get?

Oh hells yeah… Uh dirty south… Love love love this place. Visited from Boston, my boy has been living down there since last fall. Checked this place out on Sunday afternoon, Apps AMAZING, chicken liver and I think seared tuna or tartar? I don’t know what it was, but delicious definitely best describes it. Oh it had a carrot purée too. I had the«Dude, it’s a salad» and it was a salad with a nice piece of choice meat attached to it… awesome… The service, exceptional. Friendly, didn’t mind our foul mouths, i mean we ate at the bar damn it !!! They also had these delicious cookies for desert, they were sweet and salty !!! Yes please !!! They were out of one of the deserts but it happens… Prices were good as well, especially because I didn’t pay. bahahahhaha.

I’m still in love… The honeymoon ain’t over, it ain’t over! This might actually be the real deal here… Since my original review, I’ve been back oh 6 – 10 times. And I’m steadily working my way through the menu in all of it’s revisions and updates. During my last trip I tried the Thai Wings(Yum!!) and the Duck Confit. Let’s focus on this duck. It came in a jar accompanied by Cherry Chutney and bread. Thank God the flavor of the duck was good because at first, the consistency was disgusting. Individually these items were good, but together it was a par-tae in my belly. Wow, I’m so happy I went out on a limb and tried it. I’ll be back real soon P’Cheen, I know you’ve updated the menu again and now your smoke free, if I could give more stars I would.

P’Cheen used to be one of my favorite date/meet someone for drinks spots in town. It was hip, had great ambiance, nice drink selection(the moonshine stuff was always a hit), and the food was pretty good. The real key to that place was that it was a great environment to sit, drink, and talk. Unfortunately, it appears that P’Cheen has wandered from what set it apart from every other obnoxiously loud and poorly staffed bar out there. As of last night, my date and I had to move — twice — to try and find a spot where we could hear each other talk from across the table. Never was able to find a spot where that was possible without yelling. Our waitress came to the table twice, and we were there for 2 hours. I would have ordered another drink but was never given the opportunity. Sorry P’Cheen — you’re now on the«do not recommend» list.

Great first date spot if your looking for that semi-edgy, different place that doesn’t make you look like you are trying too hard. The kicker here is the atmosphere. They have great lighting and a comfortable private feeling setting. Great place to talk it up and get to know someone. Also lets not forget about the food. The chef here is super nice, helpful and creative. Everything I have had here has been good — but the best thing I had(And seriously one of the best things I’ve had in Atlanta — Period) was when I ordered the«suprise me» option on the menu. I forget exactly how they titled it but more or less you had no idea what you were getting and the chef had free reign to give you whatever he felt like whipping up. He then gave me lamb shanks in a fruit glaze. Freaking amazing. Also, I have went here with on a date with a full vegan. The chef came to our table and discussed what he could make specifically for her meal. It was really nice and showed he cared. He later came to our table to make sure everything was good(it was) Bottom line — go here and let the chef suprise you.

It’s been a few years since I first heard about P’cheen. From the Atlanta Food Rave to hearing about Chef Alex and moonshine, P’Cheen has been on my to-eat list. I finally went on St Paddy’s Day weekend. Perhaps we were early at 6:30 on a Saturday evening. There weren’t many people in the restaurant and yet service was still terrible. Either they were short-staffed or they don’t staff the restaurant until later hours for drinking. Nevertheless, it took about 15 minutes of awkward table conversation before we received water and menus. I had the coconut curry mussels and a wild green salad. I still think about the mussels. From the moment that bowl was brought to the table, the fragrant broth overtook me. One sip, and I knew I was going to clean the bowl. Ahem, but the mussels were good too. Soft and tender and they even provide you a tiny fork to pull out the mussel meat. As for the greens salad, is it weird that the one thing I liked most on it was the prosciutto? That’s like licking the frosting off a cupcake and not eating the cake. I enjoyed the salad, even the thin tips of asparagus in it. The salad did come pre-tossed with dressing and it was the the just-right amount. I really dislike it when restaurants drown a salad in dressing, so if you’re cautious about dressing intake, I’m sure you can ask for dressing to be on the side. Unless you really love dressing, you frosting lickers and muffintop eaters out there. I did have a bite of the pork shank. Fall. Off. The. Bone. Tenderness. And the jus! The jus! Eating that entire plate could put one in a coma. I came and conquered. I probably won’t be back until I’m able to partake in moonshine. Otherwise, this is all fancy bar food.

I really enjoyed the food here, but parking is horrific. I had to drive up and down the street 3 times before parking in front of a building on another block. That’s those strip malls in Atlanta for ya. It was worth it, though. My companion & I were greeted immediately as we entered and were seated. It wasn’t too crowded, but this is one of those places where you’re gonna be somewhat close to whoever’s sitting next to you on the booth side of the table. There was a very colorful character sitting to my left dropping f-bombs all over the place. Very nice. I had the angus portabello burger, which was, according to the website: brasstown beef + grilled brioche bun + choice of cheese + add caramelized onions, bacon, sauteed shrooms, jalapeño, tapenade + side. My side was potato wedges; they call them something different, but I can’t recall the name. The burger was juicy, and it was cooked well-done, just as I’d requested. The toppings and seasoning really took it up a few notches. The wedges were awesome. They were really thick and had seasoning salt? sprinkled over them. Really, really good. As Mama would have said a couple years ago, I made a «happy plate.» Not even a crumb left. Really. If I’m in the area again, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

Once again, P’Cheen did a great job last night. It was only Thursday, but work had already been pretty hellacious and both my boyfriend and I were in need of a distraction. So he suggested dinner and trip to one of our newest discoveries: Joystick Game Bar in the Fourth Ward. We wanted to avoid the crowds that cluster around the restaurants in the heart of Inman Park(Barcelona, Fritti, Pure Taqueria), so I suggested P’Cheen up the street. He agreed and we walked in to an almost empty restaurant at about 7 that evening. The maitre d seated us at a table next to the open kitchen and we settled down with the menu which had been updated since my last visit there during the spring. We(mainly I) chose to throw caution to the wind and order the«just trust us» appetizer(it’s always different — whoever the chef is, whips up whatever strikes their fancy for the night) and the ancho rubbed pork shank to share. I’m glad we took a leap of faith with the appetizer. We received a plate of fresh oysters prepared three ways: raw with a sweet vinaigrette, fried in breadcrumbs with a sweet red pepper sauce, and baked with cheese, spinach and bacon. Mmmm… every which way they were done was delicious! And when the pork shank arrived(bone still in), I was very glad we’d split it — the dish was huge. It was a full shank of fall-off-the-bone-tender pork in a bowl of its own jus, with roasted carrots, potatoes, onions and turnips(?) surrounding it. Between the two of us, we polished it off, but on one’s own — it would have been tough. And wasting a morsel of this dish would have been a shame. The flavor and tenderness of it was fantastic. Our waiter all evening was great: very personable, friendly, well-informed and he gave excellent service. It really improved my outlook on the week and reminded me why I liked P’Cheen the first time. Another job well done.

Mediocre at best. The ambience was fun and lively, the location walking distance from my place… I really wanted to like this place. Service was fine. But the food… To start, we got some cocktails– myself a Slap Happy(grapefruit, tonic, moonshine) which was light and watery, and the bf a Manhattan– solid. The wine we ordered next was reasonable as well. We started w/some meat and cheese, all of which was pretty tasteless, except the prosciutto which was extremely salty. The prosciutto appeared again, in my winter greens salad, sadly. For entrees, I ordered the crab cake pasta, which was really creamy but otherwise bland; the homemade pasta was rather overcooked. My bf had the ancho rubbed pork, which(in keeping w/the theme for the night) was boring and undistinctive. So there you have it– bland, boring, undistinctive. All for $ 90.

One of the great bars in the city. Solid gastropub fare, inexpensive drinks, friendly staff, sidewalk parties, events, a good mix of locals and visitors and a complete lack of pretension makes P’cheen the perfect neighborhood bar. Also, it’s the only place in the city that you can order a «Just Trust Us». A $ 9 appetizer that’s made up on the spot when you order it. I’ve gotten mussels, duck breast and risotto, snow crab legs, beef nachos, a trio of sliders(including one with foie gras) and other instances of awesome. So what kind of food is a gastropub have anyway? How about a daily curry with basmati rice in the same menu as a burger, fried chicken and surf & turf? How about on Mondays it becomes a BBQ joint? And a damn good one. Oh, and you’ll also find some bottomless mimosas for brunch!

Moonshine was once called ‘P’cheen’, and if you’re looking for Moonshine, you’ve come to the right place. This place is a great little gem. I first went there a couple of months ago, around August, and I am STILL thinking about the day me and a group of friends had the bottomless mimosas. We came in for brunch, and ended up wiling away a couple of hours catching up and talking. There were about 5 of us in all, and about 4 of us got the bottomless mimosas. We actually stayed so long, we’re convinced we drank them out of their champagne! They came up to us, and presented us with a pitcher, saying they were out after that one. Considering we’d been there for several hours, the only conclusion one can come up with is that we, naturally, are the ones who drank them dry. :) If I remember correctly, the bathrooms are small, but relatively clean. The food I sampled from my friends was pretty good, but not outstanding, the atmosphere was buoyant and light, but our waiter wasn’t as attentive with the drinks as they could have been.

I was a little skeptical about this place due to the previous reviews but I’m so glad I tried it out tonight(thanks to scoutmob) I don’t have any complaint besides parking but that’s inevitable for the location(old fourth ward) Everything we had was delicious :) Moonshine cocktails: Georgiaville Tea — black tea moonshine, peach, fresh lemon, simple syrup Cancun Cletus — strawberry moonshine, coconut rum, pineapple juice Appetizer: Thai wings — sweet spicy marinated char-grilled topped with scallions sesame seeds Main entrée: Ancho Rubbed Pork Shank — sweet corn poblano grits, tobacco onions, ancho jus Crab Cake — pan seared crab cakes, homemade lemon zest linguini, fresh peas, lemon caper butter, basil Dessert: Café Crème Brûlée — coffee liqueur — I love coffee flavored desserts and this one was fantastic. Also, it wasn’t too sweet :) Kat, our server, was awesome!

Monday night is BBQ night and P’cheen smells BBQ fabulous! Although I was very tempted, I did not order a traditional BBQ meal. Instead, I chose the Sausage Party — a trio of different sausages — an andouille sausage inside a waffle, a lil’ smoky sausage jalapeño corn dog, and a red hot link(I forget the bun, but it was a more traditional bread type — see photo). The sausages were served with three sauces — ketchup, mustard and a relish(not sure what kind of relish it was, but it was pickled and I didn’t like the smell of it). However, the sausages were spicy, well-cooked and awesome! The waffle was weird, but the jalapeño corn dog batter was good all on its own. YUM-MY! For my drink, I had the elderflower blossom martini which was refreshing and packed a punch. Two of these is the limit but lordy they are de-lish-ous! Service was good at the bar and there seemed to be a steady supply of regulars, and business was brisk on a Monday night. Although there is a fancy-feel to the place with the dark wood and dark leather booths, it really has a local bar vibe. Yeah they have locally sourced foods and fancy«libations», but it’s really a comfortable, laid-back place. Parking sucks on this end of Highland. But at least it’s free! And no one under 18 is allowed(I love that). I’m looking forward to returning to P’cheen to try some of the other entrees and«libations.»

I enjoyed my visit to P’cheen. It was mentioned to me by a friend. I started with«Just Trust Us»…I was served thin slices of ahi tuna seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper and topped with wasabi micro greens and sliced avocado(if I recall that correctly). I like ahi tuna, the dish was surprisingly good — all the flavors combined well. For my entrée, I had the burger prepared with avocado and potato salad as a side. The burger is seasoned with 19 herbs and spices; it was seasoned just right. The potato salad was good also! I had a drink called the Elderflower blossom… it had a jasmine taste to it. I also had a beer called«Hell or High Watermelon» — that was good; it has a nice watermelon aftertaste! It is great when combined with orange juice. For desert, I had the french toast with ice cream. However, this is the first time I have eaten ice cream with bacon in it. Overall, the desert was good, the bacon was not overpowering; there were some bacon pieces in the ice cream. Also, I want to mention the great service provided by Jessica; she was friendly and answered questions I had about items on the menu. I went on a Tuesday night and there were several spaces available to parallel park on the bridge, a few hundred feet away from the restaurant.

P’cheen is a place with a weird name, let’s be honest. As silly as that sounds, it made me kinda iffy on going to it, even until the second time I went haha. Anyways, this place is actually pretty awesome, albeit a bit expensive. I’ve come here like 3 or 4 times now, and every time I’ve gotten the portabello burger, which still hasn’t ceased to amaze me. I could have sworn they kept changing the menu on me, but I dismissed it to forgetfulness. This last time I went though, I realized they DO mix up the menu kinda often, which is definitely a plus to the restaurant for keeping it fresh with minor changes. For example, the burger I usually got now had 4 options of cheese, and a few other options I don’t recall offhand, available upon ordering. Of course, I tried the other kind of cheese, I think pimento, and it was delicious. I was incredibly hungry at the time, but the burger still filled me up, since it was SO thick, both the patty and in the amount of each topping. Even the bread was warm and toasty, but not hard or stale at all. To top that all off, our waiter was HILARIOUS. Seriously, I wish I remembered his name, but he was mad funny. ++

I ate here about a month ago and I can’t say I was impressed. I would go back again, but I wouldn’t make any special trips there. I ordered the Thai wings which were really good, but there weren’t many of them. I was told that the order used to be pretty big. I also ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. I had so many hopes for this dish, but sadly I was let down. It was bland, but it was a good serving size. Again, I would come back for the wings and maybe double up on the order, but I would not drive that way to specifically go there.
