My childhood roots are in the coastal Florida and Georgia area: Jekyll, Amelia, Cumberland, St. Simon’s Islands to name a few. I said that to say that local coastal seafood is nothing new to me and it runs through my veins. However, this was my first visit to Jekyll Island Seafood Company. This particular location is in the Atlanta airport and I needed to grab a meal before a long international flight. I ordered shrimp and grits. The grits needed a bit of salt but passed the non-crunchy test. The shrimp’s flavor was not memorable but the texture was plump and tender. Service took awhile after I ordered my food. Like, I probably could’ve caught my flight and came back before it was ready. The waiter was not welcoming or friendly. He seemed too unconcerned to be in table food service. The dining area is an open café setting with no real enclosure, so you can view and be viewed closely by passing passengers as they walk by to their boarding areas. I would probably visit again and order a grown-up drink to tolerate the service while I wait 3 days for my plate to come from the kitchen.

This place is terrible. Stay away. The airport should close it down and open another One Flew South What could be improved: 1) The food is lousy. The gumbo and the chowder are very watery and taste like a watered down canned product. The fish dishes are worse than what you would expect from an average sports bar. 2) The service is slow and inattentive. 3) Cleanliness is questionable. Look at your stool before sitting.

Surprisingly nice find inside the international airport terminal 1. Gumbo was good and the stone ground grits were the best I’ve had so far. Chicken burger had a large patty and came with asparagus. It is licensed for beverages. It had TV screens but just a café atmosphere. Priced comparable to other places. Cooks were laughing in the back having a good old time!
