Best German Restaurant in town. Love the sausage and the Schweinshaxe. It’s a nice place to go with friends and share a large plate! Good for events too.

All of these great reviews… i guess we came on the wrong night. Obviously german beer is good, but the food was a bit underwhelming. I had the Jagerschnitzel, which was ok, but a bit burned. The spaetzel has alright flavor, but had that slightly rubbery top layer, like it had either been in a microwave, or scooped out of a buffet size heating vat. Definitely not cooked to order. We were there for my wife’s birthday. Our server brought her a slice of apple pie, before we ever even got drinks or food. Who does that? Anyways, the place has a fun feel, and might be alright with a big group of friends in the summer, or October for sure. I was disappointed, though. Maybe ill try again, another time, later

Very disappointed. We called and they said they close at 9 but you had to b seated by 8:45. We walked all the way from the convention in freezing cold to b told they were closed and it was only 8pm. They came well recommended but not from me.

Excellent. We ordered three dishes and an app and split between the four of us. Lots of fun, everything was good. Dessert was fantastic too. Lovely experience.

We went here after a Falcons game and our service was not good. I assume they must have been understaffed, perhaps because of the holidays, or else no way would this place have 4 stars on Unilocal. After being seated, we waited for almost 15 minutes to be greeted by a waiter. I had to ask two other waiters if they could please find out who had our table before someone was finally sent over. Our waiter seemed like a really nice guy, and was helpful in our decisions about what to order, but he didn’t apologize for our wait and the waiting situation didn’t improve much after he finally took our order. The beer menu is very good. We made our selections, but when the beers came out 10 minutes later, my dad was missing his. Apparently there would be a longer wait because of some problem with the keg being backed up or something. My parents were needing to get out of town, and we had already been sitting down for half an hour at this point with no beer for my dad. My dad asked to just be given the same beer that my mom had, or whatever beer would be the quickest to bring. It took another 10 minutes for him to get that beer. There really wasn’t much explanation or apology. Overall, this really tarnished our experience. I’d give it one more try because of the high reviews, convenient location, and nice patio. It can’t always be that bad. However, I won’t visit again after a game.

Return visit to Atlanta and I came on by for another meal. The food was delicious and I have no complaints, my previous review still stands and 4 stars it is. I had the schnitzel with cranberries and that was quite good and the folks were very friendly and allowed me to sip my beer and eat for two hours without any bother.

I loved the food here! The jäger schnitzel or breaded pork thingy, was excellent with a great mushroom sauce. The oniony cheesy spätzle dish was excellent too. Tried the Reuben roll appetizer and it was good but not great. It was different like an egg roll but it had a good flavor with a spice I couldn’t figure out. I loved my German apple strudel and want to have that again. Looks old school but it’s rather new and made to look old school.

I cant give a full review of this place because i only stopped here to get a piece of German chocolate cake. Saw a picture on Unilocal and the cake looked good. And i thought who better to get a GCC then from a place that serves German food. The cake was good though and the people were nice.

Ok. Here you go. It’s an excellent beer garden if you sit outside. It’s not expensive but entrees are on the high side. $ 13 and up. Portions are big and flavor is spot on. Service was very good and waitress was well informed. Now. Here’s the biggest let down. If you are going to sell GERMANCHOCOLATECAKE, make for damn sure it’s good enough to pass off as homemade. The cake was a joke and I called bullshit after the first bite. So to end on a good note. The beer is awesome!!!

This place is decent German food, just nothing special. I had the sauerbraten, the reuben rolls, bratwurst, knockwurst, and some apple strudel. Sauerbraten was not bad, just a little too dry. Knockwurst was basically a hot dog. The reuben rolls and bratwurst were surprisingly good. The strudel was nice, but more like apple pie than a traditional strudel. You will find better German food at both the Village Corner Bakery and Kurt’s. If I was in the area, and was craving sausages, I would come back and get a plate of brats and a beer.

We stopped in here for lunch before our flight home because it was close to our hotel and on our way back from the Aquarium. On the positive side, our waitress was friendly, upbeat and aimed to please. They also have a good selection of beers, which is to be expected in light of their name. The food, however, is not that good. I had the bratwurst which wasn’t very good. It didn’t have very much flavor and was served partially uncooked in the center. When I asked the waitress, she said, «yup, that is how we always serve it.» My boyfriend had the sauerbraten that was somewhat tender but was served in a strange sauce. We both agreed that the spaeztle on both of our plates was tasty. The restaurant had a large number of flies which was somewhat unpleasant. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant nor would I return. I realize that his place has lots of great reviews from fellow Unilocalers. BTW — we are both familiar with German food so lack of familiarity w/the cuisine or the menu was not the issue.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to yesterday. It was soooooo good. Everything we had was delicious. Our table shared the Risenbretzel(the giant pretzel) with the cheese spread and the German meatballs as our starters. The pretzel was fresh and the meatballs were nice and light(rather than dense). The potatoes that came with the meatballs were AMAZING. I wanted to lick the plate… if I didn’t have any manners, I might have. Four of us got the jägerschnitzel and it, too was delicious! It would have been great plain, but the mushroom sauce on top made it even better. The spätzle was also really good, and it had a lot of flavor unlike some spätzle I’ve had in the past(at other German restaurants). They give you nice-sized portions. Our other friend got the geräucherter lachs auf reibekuchen(smoked salmon and potato pancake) and she said it was great as well. They have a nice outside area to sit in, but you can also sit inside their restaurant if you prefer A/C in the Hotlanta summers. Not sure where all you can park, but we parked in the deck across the street and they validate here which was nice.

Legit place for german food. Unless you’re familiar with german food, you wont recognize anything on the menu. So dont expect fries and a burger. Ask the waiter for help. Staff is very friendly and can def help navigate you through their menu. Although, sometimes they can be hard to get a hold of once they leave your table. Make sure you ask for everything you need in one go. Ordered the sausages. Loved them but i def wasnt crazy about the shredded beets. Also, there are different types of mustards seated at each table. I highly recommend ppl try them out. And, dont forget to take a gander at their beer list. Which of course, they are pretty well known for. They def host a grand celebration for oktoberfest. I came here on a less crowded time, middle of december, and I loved the way the place was decorated. Unorthodoxed upside down christmas trees, tons of garland just shrouding the place and a train just chugging and visiting each room in a scheduled manner. Overall, I’d come back.

Since I was last here about 5 years ago, they have made significant improvements. Their giant pretzel is now actually giant. Also, I love the indoor bier garden concept — great for the hot Atlanta summers. But service still sucks just the same. We had major problems flagging anyone down for service and to get our check at the end of the night. I also didn’t like the mustards on the table in jars. Given the amount of drunk people there, it felt a little unsanitary. It’s been upgraded to A-OK for me.

I was genuinely pleasantly surprised by this place, and I mean that. We came here as a group this last Saturday and the staff was very accommodating, and I really enjoyed the setup. We started off with the pretzel, meh, normally not my first choice, but I’m aiming to please the manfriend tonight, so we’ll go with that. However, as far as pretzels go, this thing was delicious! Secondly, we ordered the trout. Again not my first choice, but the manfriend didn’t want to be too full for our event afterwards and wanted to share this, so I reluctantly agreed. (I LOVESAUSAGEANDANYTHINGSTUFFEDINCASINGSYOUGUYS!) However, this too, was delicious. In fact, it pretty much knocked my socks off. So perfectly well done. We also got a side of the Kasespatzle, and it’s a dream for mac and cheese lovers. Our server wasn’t the best, but at least she was cute. Bless her heart, when a few folks at our table asked about some of the beer selections, her response, and I quote«I don’t know anything about beer and I don’t even like the stuff» Honey, I think you’re working at the wrong place, and I really don’t even know how you’re working a large party. I’m definitely going back, and getting the Jagerschnitzel, and all the other things. And yes, even that trout again too.

What an awesome drinking place for a warm day. I went there around sunset in late spring and it was gorgeous. Every beer I tried was delicious and came in bucket sizes, just the way I like it. The food was authentic German and great for snacking on while getting drunk in the lazy afternoon.

Went there for late night dinner during a comic convention at the GWCC. Wasn’t sure what I’d get, but ended up having a jolly good time! Tucked away a few blocks behind the CNN Center and GWCC, Der Biergarten has a welcoming sign and logo. You walk up some stairs to an outdoor patio and wait to be seated. A lot of the outdoor seats are done in community style, lots of long benches meant to seat a party of 6 – 10. However, the humid night made me request an indoor seat instead. The indoors are a little nicer. The tables have tablecloths, it’s A/C cooled of course, and it was a little quieter. First, the beer menu. They have quite an extensive list of German imports. The servers will be glad to help you pick one out, but the told me that a rule of thumb is that the beer is light if its at the top of the list, and gets darker/stronger as you go down. Naturally, I got the lightest one, the Weihenstephan Original Lager. If you like light lagers, you’ll love this one. It went down quite easily, although I couldn’t finish the entire half Liter serving. They come in one Liter portions as well. I went back a second time, and got the Radler(combo of Sprite + lighter beer). I probably could have had two big glasses of that stuff, because it was delicious! Definitely give it a try if you’ve never had it before, and/or you’re into sweeter drinks. As for my entrée, I got the bratwurst on a bun with a side of sauerkraut and potato salad. I set the sauerkraut aside because I’m not a fan of it in general, but everything else was great. The potato salad was cool and flavorful. The brat sausage was meaty goodness, and I used the bread as kind of a hot dog bun. They have 3 mustard containers on each table, and I really enjoyed the one that tasted like honey mustard. Generous but not excessive portion, I felt almost stuffed once I was done(well worth the $ 9 for the entrée). Decided I had to try a dessert as usual. It was probably the best part of the whole experience! Got the German Chocolate Cake, and decided to add on the 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream with strawberries. The addition was good because you wanted the cold and tartness to balance out the cake. The cake itself was still moist, sweet, and rich. I don’t know that I would have liked it as much without the ice cream and berries. Our server was attentive, checked on us often, answered questions, and was professional. I would definitely come back here, especially since that part of town has a reputation for not having many options outside of fast food. Maybe I just haven’t explored it enough, but at least now I have one go to option when I go to events in the area.

I was in town to watch my Brewers take on the Braves. I love my German restaurants, regardless of where they are, and found this place on Unilocal. On this Saturday night, they had the German Oompapa music playing. I had a couple of Spaten Lagers in the 1-liter glass. I also indulged in a large pretzel. I wasn’t hungry enough for a full-course dinner, but did finish up with Apple Strudel and vanilla ice cream. Why not? So good!

Wer nicht liebt, einige gute Deutsch Lebensmittel ? Der Biergarten offers their food at the Annual German Bierfest in Atlanta held in August. This time I wanted to try their downtown location. The location off Marietta Street is very nice, inside is a beautiful wooden bar and throughout lovely décor, they have extremely clean restrooms as well. Heading outside, they have a patio that can handle quite a big crowd as well as offer guests some fresh air and a view of the city. My wife and I came here for lunch with the kids. We had the wurstplatte with three bratwursts, at $ 13 bucks, this is a good deal for lunch, considering they charge $ 9 for just one bratwurst with a bun. On the tables they have three kinds of mustards, two of which have seeds and these are very good on bratwursts and pretzels(riesenbrezel). Der Biergarten offers a nice selection of traditional Deutsch food. Though I do think some of it is overpriced, $ 10 for riesenbrezel, $ 24 for wiener schnitzel and $ 21 for jägerschnitzel. In Fayetteville they have a nice German restaurant and they offer those for under $ 10. Though I understand this place does need to charge slightly more, they have high rent, but still. The service here at Der Biergarten is really good. Our server was a lady by the name of Alex with a stylish ring nose, she was cool and took good care of us. I definitely would eat here again. Ich fand, daß Der Biergarten ausgezei… I kid, i kid… We went to Der Biergarten, which i believe is in the old Wine Loft space, following the glorious Auburn victory over Bama. On top of that it was my 30th birthday so I was what you might call beschwipst. That being said, I’ve got a(worthless) degree in German and spent a summer living in and traveling ’round rural Bavaria so I was not going to be an easy customer. I’ve also seen the bastard that is Helen, GA, and was praying we didn’t have a similar travesty on our hands in my beloved ATL. I’m guessing most folks were holed up at STATS to watch football that night because it wasn’t busy at all. That or the curtains are already drawing shut. We sat quickly at our large reserved table and were served drinks in short order. I was served in tall order, actually, and drank from a giant Warsteiner boot. The restaurant sells them for(i think) $ 18 and it’s only $ 8 to refill any time your return. It’s the size of 3+ beers so it’s well worth it if you make a return trip. Just don’t trip on your way out and bust it. The atmosphere was over the top, which honestly is kind of typical German in some ways, so I was willing to forgive. They were already decorated for the holidays so that may have had something to do with it. I can tell this would be a cool spot to take visitors during the warmer months — there’s a large patio outside that’s much more typical for a biergarten. I found the food to be very spot on. I’ve had wienerschnitzel in half the towns of Bavaria and in comparison this was quite good, complete with lemon slice. I also had the Riesenbretzel(giant pretzel, y’all). Everyone else enjoyed their meals, specifically the Jaegerschnitzel, but i was drinking from a boot for God’s sake so cut me some slack on the details, would ya? The major shortcoming, in my opinion, was the lack of beer selection. Part of the bavarian charm is eating and drinking in the local towns, each with their own brewery. True, a typcial biergarten would only feature two local beverages, but this isn’t Holzkirchen, it’s Atlanta. I’d love it if Der Beirgarten could expand beyond the expected German varieties that you might also expect at a fancy gas station or Kroger. May i suggest Erdinger, Gaffel Kolsch, or maybe Augustiner? Hell, even Hofbrau’s brew would work. Does no one carry Lowenbrau, anymore? Inbev owns them all, anyway, amiright? Anyway, I’d recommend a stop in to see what it’s all about. While i really enjoyed everything, I’d give them 3.5 stars if i could, with plans to return with my boot for another round(and probably more stars). Dahoam sterb’n d’Laut. Prost!
