Ok so me and my husband have been going here for over 5 years(back when we where just dating as college students). I love this place and at this point the wait staff knows us. We love coming here. I don’t think you will find as clean and friendly a place in Athens for the price. We’ve never had a bad meal here! Great food, especially their Mexican tacos(drizzled with the red sauce).

Nothing fancy about this place but the food can’t be beaten. We usually eat in but delivery is reasonably fast. The tortas are my favorite but the quesadillas are hard to beat. The sauces are the best, and we always get salsa and guacamole for home. Service is fast in the restaurant and servers are friendly.

Impressed with their lunch specials. Nice people, warm service. Empanada– bursting with cheese and shredded meat. A– only for extra grease Gordita– Nicely done, Carnitas was deep fried. They like deep fryers here. A+ Chile Relleno Poblano with proper cheese, and proper batter. A– was reheated instead of fresh fried. Sope also very good with Al Pastor. A– I forgot beans are used as cement for the meat. They managed to use a deep fryer for all the above food items… Rice and beans C mediocre room temperature

Great location, great service, good food. This place is always open and has welcoming staff. When my friends and family come to visit Athens this place is a must for them and it is also down the street which is awesome.

Very typical Americanized Mexican food. Nothing off the charts in terms of flavors, but nonetheless enjoyable. I had the garlic shrimp fajitas which were actually very tasty.

My favorite Mexican food in athens! They have the best cheese dip. The service was really good! And I enjoyed the quesadilla fajita and the fact that they give you fresh avocado slices. I will always come back here :)

Good food, good price and good service. I had a chicken torta and honestly, it was like no torta i’ve ever had before. It was more like a really good chicken sandwich than a traditional torta. The bread was different(but good) and the innards weren’t your traditional toppings, but again, it was good. My wife had Milanesa and it was also good. I agree the the salsa leaves much to be desired. I wouldn’t serve it in my own restaurant. Our bill was $ 20 for 2 people at lunch, so pricing is great.

If you are like me and need a convenient stop on the way home from work, then right off the bypass this small and delicious restaurant is for you. Whether I’m picking up chips and salsa or grabbing a shrimp quesadilla, the rich flavors and family owned feel to this restaurant are appreciated. I’m always greeted with a smile by the friendly staff and the food never disappoints!

My boss ordered in for us last week… I had the chicken fajitas. They were a little stingy with the avocado but I get that in this region they’re not exactly growing on trees in your backyard. Beyond that I have no real complaints. It was pretty good but not four or five stars good — it’s not a place I’d put any special effort in to visiting and I think the only reason I enjoyed it as much as I did is because I wasn’t paying. I can’t speak for the dine-in experience, though. From what I understand it’s kind of pricey.

This Sr Sol location, like the other one, services up very tasty Mexican food. Seating is a bit cramped. And it’s a bit far away – the other location tends to be more convenient. But I’d certainly go eat a meal here any time.

Never been disappointed with this place. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, and incredible food. Best Mexican in Athens besides Tlaloc. Pretty authentic. This is not tex-mex. Personal favorites are pastor tacos, tripe tacos, shrimp tostada, and shrimp al chipotle.

sooo, it’s attached to a gas station. Inside, it looks like an old-school diner with a Mexican flair. But the food is AMAZING. There’s lots of Mexican restaurants around North Georgia, but the food at Sr. Sol’s tastes home-made. We’ll definitely be back.

I have had this place bookmarked for about a year. I had to go to Athens today and happened to pass by it and decided it was time to try it. After all, it gets 5 stars on Unilocal, right? Well, I know we all have our own opinions, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how this place can have 5 stars with over 80 reviews. That is like giving a gymnast a perfect 10 in the Olympic games after they made mistakes on their routine. First off, the most basic thing about ANY Mexican food joint to judge is the chips and salsa. They fell way short on both of those. In fact, I would not even rate their chips or salsa as average as both were below average. The food tasted pretty good but was overpriced in my opinion, especially to be in a college town. I ordered a lunch special which came with a «taco supremo» and a «little burrito». For those of you who don’t habla español, «burro» means donkey and«ito» signifies«little» already.(on a side note, El Niño is Spanish for… The Niño). So I guess this was a little, little donkey. At any rate, the food was ok. It was not bad, but was definitely not great. The«taco supremo» was greasy as can be. I know some grease is allowable but this was the type grease that drenched your hand while eating the taco. The cheese was not very flavorful either. The beef had great flavor but it would have been nice if these folks had ever heard of a strainer to drain the grease from the beef before slapping them on the shell. As for the«little little donkey», I chose chicken and that was not greasy at all. Side note: the Taco Supremo is supposed to come with sour cream. They brought a portion on the side that would not even cover the tip of my pinky finger. I asked for«a little more» and they charged me like $ 1.50 for it which was absolutely ridiculous. The refried beans were really excellent. However, if that is your dish that you are expecting people to come back for, I think you have failed miserably. I would probably give this 3 stars if I was feeling generous. However, I think two is more appropriate. Especially to offset all of the crazy 5 star reviews. 5 stars signifies that a place could not get any better. Believe me when I tell you there is definite room for improvement with this place.

I’ll keep it short: BEST chips and salsa I’ve ever had. I could eat them for my whole meal. The green sauce is very good and the orange sauce is warm and flavorful. I got the fajitas alambre, which I probably wouldn’t get again. There was too much ham and it was too salty. A lot of the meat was too salty, but what can you do. My favorite thing was the sope, which I had never had before. Tacos: good. Tostada: very good, but too much sour cream. I removed half of it. GREATVALUE. Portions are very generous. Prices are low. Service is wonderful. Great place overall.

I was a fan of this hole in the wall mexican restaurant next to a gas station. Yes, you read that right. Sr Sol is located off of Tallassee road next to the Shell station. Now, as I was saying-I was a fan of this restaurant when the boo attended school here in Athens and what a pleasant surprise it was to find that a) they were still in this spot b) their food is still delicious AND affordable. You can get a dinner combo(which is what I did) for less than $ 10. My meal consisted on 2 barbacoa empanadas, rice and beans. Very tasty and filling. I will always return here.

The best mexican restaurant in Athens! Their fajita quesadilla is amazing. They have wonderful margaritas and cheese dip. The service is very good. All of my friends enjoy whatever they get. I haven’t heard a bad review about this restaurant!

…I will say that the Taquerilla del Sol on Prince is good, too. Señor Sol a 9.5 vs 8 for del Sol(on Prince Ave.) Actually, the chips and salsa trio(not free) at Taquerilla del Sol is better than Señor Sol ‘s chips(free) and their salsa. Also, I went to the newer TaquerillaTsunami yesterday. The tacos and chips were good, but not as good as Señor Sol or Taq. del Sol. and the place is super noisy.
