Catch 22 Gastropub

Just had one of the best dinners I have had in Athens in a long time! We went to celebrate my youngest son’s 22^nd birthday. I had the chicken sandwich and could not finish half of it. Excellent! One son had the house burger and fries and the birthday boy had the low country boil. My husband had the cheesesteak sandwich made with homemade pimento cheese. My daughter has a restaurant also in Athens and is «famous» for her pimento cheese — Marti had better watch out! Great place for parents to enjoy dinner with the adult children. Although my 25 year old was a little embarrassed when his dad asked if they had any «American» beer from their extensive craft LOCAL beer list. Yes dad they do have Bud! Good wine list for me also! Too bad we were too full to try dessert.

We come here at least once a week after work and it’s the perfect place to unwind with a good beer and mouth watering food.
The Southern BLT will change your perspective on life. Side effects include: increased life-​span, immediate euphoric feeling that lasts for hours and the promise of being longer, bigger, faster, stronger like Yeezus himself. You’d be a fool to turn that down.

Everything I have tried here is amazing! My favorite is the Sriracha grilled cheese and the liquid gold wings. The street tacos are amazing. Their burgers are unique but delicious! Definitely try the food, but don’t expect normal. Normal is boring.

Omg, killer dirty fries! I had a burger… Of course with avocado egg and some kind of mayo or cheese I think. And the waitress was awesome to help me find a beer or cider I liked! It’s was good quality and quantity.

Best beer selection in Ga. Black Friday featured some of best stouts made. Salmon was excellent. Congratulations to Richard for outstanding experience; he saved Goose Island Bourbon stout a year just for this event. This is my new home.

Great burgers. I also recommend their beer flight where you pick 5 different beers off of their list and they give you a 4 oz sample of each. Works great to try a lot of different micro brews to find some you like.

We just moved to Athens from a city with lots of craft beer and hundreds of restaurant options. Catch 22 was a place we stumbled on, and THANK GOD! The food is amazing… taste, presentation, variety. Hands down great. They also have a nice selection of craft beer. The staff is super helpful and nice. We love coming here!

Seriously good, creative American food and very pleasant service in a fun atmosphere.

Would like to be able to give this place 5 stars if solely based on food, but had to lower score because of the service! We went to lunch today and place was about ¾ full so no excuse for letting us sit for close to 15 minutes without anyone getting a drink order. When the server did make it over she didn’t greet us, just asked what we wanted to drink. Got the filthy fries (amazing) for an app and all 4 in party got various burgers/​sandwiches. We all loved what we had and the quality was great, however once the server brought our food she NEVER came back over. We had to stop another server to ask for refills and boxes. As a former server I completely understand someone having a bad day, but to completely ignore a table is inexcusable!!!

Really enjoyed our lunch. Even though not on the day’s menu, the server said she would get me the tuna tacos (the reason I wanted to try this place based on a Unilocal review). My wife had the blackened tuna sandwich and we were both very pleased with both the food and service.
The restaurant is deceiving from the front. In fact, I had passed this place many times and wasn’t sure what it was until I saw it on Unilocal.Very nice ambience. I also like the subtle sense of humor the owner displayed on his sign about a previous Unilocal review.

If you like fish tacos at all, the tuna tacos will ruin all other fish tacos for you. They were amazing! If you work at Catch 22 and you’re reading this, they should be a regular menu item, for sure! If you like beer, I recommend getting a flight or two especially right now because they have so many pumpkin beers on draught. Every #basic white girls dream come true! Will definitely come back again!

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Great beer selection. Haven’t tried the food, but it smells great.

1^st timer… staff was very helpful with suggesting meals and beer. Went with the chef choice… Would recomemd to anyone. Best burger I’ve had in a long time. A bit pricey… but worth it. Had potato salad and it was delicious. Will definitely return

I think the chef here is a wizard. Don’t be afraid to try something. Everything is amazing! I would show you pictures but it is all in my belly! This is why I can’t diet! Staff os always great and give great recommendations. Servings are large enough for two! You have to try this place!

The atmosphere is very chill, overall it was what I imagined a gastropub would feel and look like. There are booths all around, and two long high tables in the middle, perfect for large parties. Unfortunately, I did not try any of their beer but they do have a very impressive list of craft beers and a rather large selection on draft. The flight (a beer sampler for $ 8) is something I definitely want to try next time.
Onto the food…
We started out with the taco appetizer. It comes with three small Mahi Mahi tacos on corn tortillas with really unique honey Wasabi sauce. I probably won’t order it again for $ 9, but I really liked the honey Wasabi sauce.
Both me and my boyfriend ordered the chef’s special burger. Basically, the chef creates a random burger not on the menu based on any special food preferences. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I had asked mushrooms to be incorporated and my boyfriend asked for something spicy.
What I got was a giant fried portobello mushroom with bacon, cheese, and arugula wihout a top bun… and it was DELICIOUS. Besides the creativity aspect of it, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the well flavored beef patty.
My boyfriend was surprised with a burger with jalapeños, fried tortilla chips, and a touch of ghost chili. He said he enjoyed it, but next time would ask for even more ghost chili.
The regular fries that comes wih the burgers are delicious – crispy and flavored with garlic and onion flakes. the filthy fries I had were their regular fries topped with their beer cheese sauce. It was fun to try, but proved to be too heavy for me as the meal went on.
This place is definitely at the top of our favorite places to go to in Athens.

You know, I griped about the price point, but I take it all back. This place is great and is worth the little extra cost. The beer is good and rotated regularly, the service is always good, the food is great and in hefty portions.
This is one of, if not my absolute, favorite establishments in Athens. Definitely, a best kept secret.

If you’re constantly having a hard time to decide what you want, order the Chef Special. They never let you down. Just tell the server what you like and dislike, the chef special will surprise you. BTW, there fries are insanely good. I know, fries are not that healthy. But if I am eating unhealthy fries, I will want theirs. Not to mention you can see everything in the kitchen when you are waiting.
It’s a nice pub to hang out with friends and have some drinks. We love to go to movies at University 16, which is very close to Catch 22. Spending some quality time with friends while we are waiting for the movie is really relaxing.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Athens. If you like burgers and sandwiches, you should try.

We hadn’t really thought much about this place after having small plates and drinks here a few times when it opened. Those plates ranged from bad to average. Oh, how things have changed!
None of the previous plates are still on the menu. Instead it looks like they have dialed in on what they know they can do well. Their plates also have small variations on typical dishes that make them stand out.
Last night 4 of us went and loved everything we had. Two of us had burgers (Boring and Porknado). Both were great (the latter is a must have mess). I had the Chicken sandwich put between a cheese garlic biscuit. I loved it. One of the best sandwiches I’ve had in town or elsewhere. My wife had the BLT, which had a fried tomato and feta cheese. Delicious. And the fries were enjoyed by all.
Lastly, their flight deal is why i give them 5 stars (4 stars without it). 8 dollars gets you 5 3.5 ounce pours of any draft beers. And their beer selection is crafty and selective, with beers from local breweries to places across the country. It’s well worth its value.
