Barry did a home inspection on our new house and was wonderful to work with. He was receptive to all questions (always called back right away) and was punctual and thorough during the home inspection. Barry reviewed and summarized his findings after the inspection and provided a detailed report with photographs the same evening as the inspection. The timely receipt of the report was important as we were planning on closing within the week. The closing process was very stressful for us but he was a friendly, experienced professional, a breath of fresh air for us!

Barry Stone didn’t write the book on home inspections, but he did write the newspaper article. That is, he has a recurring column titled «Ask the Home Inspector» in several newspapers.
He was a home inspector long before it was «cool» having been at it for over 20 years. In fact, when he first got in the business, he had to explain to realtors, buyers and sellers the value of a home inspection during a sale of a property. Of course, a home inspection is commonplace now. I don’t know if Barry has been doing home inspections for longer than anyone else on the central coast, but it’s safe to say he’s done it longer than nearly anyone else.
I hired Barry to do an inspection of an apartment building. He was thorough and knowledgeable. I’d definitely use him again.
Barry was so thorough that, many years ago, he got the reputation as a «deal-​killer» because he pointed out so much deferred maintenance and other issues. Eventually, both buyers and sellers became comfortable with him because he was merely pointing out the truth of the condition of a building. Nearly everyone benefits from that. As a buyer, he wasn’t a deal-​killer for me, but he saved me a LOT of money because I negotiated a significant refund from the seller after detailing the deferred maintenance associated with the building I was buying.
