After reading positive reviews about the pork buns and finally trying them, I have become convinced that 90% of the people leaving reviews on Unilocal have mental disabilities. The pork bun is literally a hamburger bun stuffed with cheap microwaved«pork» with a sauce that tastes like chemicals. Seriously, do these reviewers have any experience eating decent food? Anyway, the rest of the food is straight up average. I’ll probably be eating dinner from here tonight because I’m too lazy to cook right now. 3 stars for being average, + 1 star for taking credit cards, and being open late. Edit: after eating here for a year, I can safely say this is the worst chinese food I have ever had. They stopped taking credit cards under 10 bucks. No stars.

Classic American style Chinese food. This is one of the only places I have found in Astoria that serves the right brown gravy with their egg foo young. Most places serve some sort of soy/oyster sauce that’s usually watery or gelatinous but thankfully this one place gets it right.

Friendly staff. Best bone in ribs I’ve ever had from a Chinese restaurant. I eat there at least four times a week because I don’t live with my Mom anymore.

Have been in this area for a job for the past week. Got take out from this place. The pork buns as white people call them were actually surprisingly above average. The other food I had was ok. The ingredients were fresh, but it was lacking some flavor. May repeat.

It’s another Chinese fast food restaurant. It’s very average. They need to make more presentable!!! It’s not crowded. You can get your food very fast. I have been here only a few times. I am not a fan of this type of Asian food. I only had the soups.

Everything I’ve ordered off the menu has been good at Wah Fung. They are really consistent about their food. the best thing about this place is they are open late almost every single day. They earliest they close is 11pm and some days they close at midnight. On top of that they take credit card! I don’t know many Chinese fast food restaurants that do that. There isn’t even a minimum. I’ve charged like $ 7.50 to my card. The sesame chicken is good The general tso’s chicken is good The shredded spicy chicken is good The pepper steak is good The beef with broccoli is good The spare ribs are good I think you get the point. Everything here is pretty solid. I always like to get a side of sesame pancakes with my order. Open Late, tastes pretty good and takes credit card. What more could you want from your local Chinese take out spot. The only thing I will say negative is that f you order the pepper steak they give you A LOT of pepper and onions so you might want to mention go easy on the green peppers and onions.

If I’m ordering American Chinese food in this neighoborhood, I would be calling Wah Fung. As a typical take out place(with a few seatings), the venue is bare but it is tidy, with a nonchalant lady behind the counter. We had the following: — Lemon chicken: I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken breast was in a thin breading, seasoned with the Chinese«five spice». Not the usual regular plain breading. Thumbs up. — General Tzo’s fried Tofu: For what it is, I enjoyed it. Only wish the friend tofu cubes were a bit more substantial(less hollow inside). The sauce wasn’t sickenly sweet, it was just right. — Hot and sour soup: Not bad. Definately had worse, so I can settle with this. — Pork buns: After reading all the reviews on Unilocal talking about their buns, of course I had to try it. Sadly, it was kind of a let down. They are not the traditional(steamed — white bun) roast pork buns, these are the«bread» oven baked buns. The filling was minimal, mostly just the roast pork sauce. Meh. You can get better ones in Queens or in Manhattan Chinatown for less than those($ 1.50), but I guess I was paying for convenience. I’m aware that I’m quite critical of American Chinese take out joints, because I have gotten so many questions and commentaries growing up, since non Asians around me often tend to think that this is legit Chinese food, assuming our entire culinary culture is summarized in fried rice with sweet and sour chicken. With that said, it doesn’t mean that I don’t crave orange chicken and egg rolls every once in a while. Wah Fung is 3 solid stars.

I live in the Upper Ditmars area, and was looking for a Chinese place that delivers. We gave Wah Fung a shot. The spring rolls, spare ribs, and veggie lo mein were all good. The pork buns and General Tso’s chicken were fantastic. Delivery took about 25 minutes. My only complaint was what I was charged. I was told my total was $ 28 on the phone. The delivery guy said it was $ 36 when he showed up. I don’t know what happened, and because of communication issues, there was no way to figure it out. Oh well. Good food, quick delivery, ok prices. I’d order again… and hope they don’t charge me $ 8 extra this next time.

went in for a soup, and while waiting, i watched the guy cutting raw chicken, problem is when he was done cutting the chicken, he rinsed the knifes, no soap. then rinsed the cutting board, no soap, then wiped it with a rag he then placed the knifes and board under an open shelf. he then shut off the faucet went to the back walk in freezer came back with some frozen shrimp and put them in sink and started to separate… all without washing his hands or gloves on!!! he cross contaminated everything!!! and didn’t seem to care a bit, bussiness as usual!!! i’ve been going here for a few years and the food always tasted good, but now they’ve lost a customer… how they got an a rating is beyond me… to do such blatant food handling is unforgivable…

Giving these roasted pork buns a go… The only ones in Astoria.(Fingers crossed) I was introduced to roasted(not steamed) pork buns about a month or two ago during a brunch I was hosting, and from that day on I have been searching for a pork bun in my area to replace the pork bun from that brunch. Now, I know that there are many delicious buns out there, and that Astoria is not known for buns, but I thought surely I could find something that could tide me over in my own neighborhood in the meantime. Easier said than done. Wah Fung is the only restaurant in Astoria that has roasted pork buns on their menu, everyone else advertises steamed buns which I am not as much of a fan. Wah Fung is not within delivery distance for me either(a small hike). I will say that the restaurant has pretty good reviews, mostly for convenience and price. It’s tiny and the staff there is nice. The buns came out quick, but that’s mostly because they were microwaved, roasted ahead of time, possibly frozen and then microwaved. MIne was even cold in the middle, but the flavoring of the pork was right. The bun itself resembled an oversized hamburger bun more than anything else, but again the dough flavor was right. We took two home to see if they could be improved in the oven, and if fully-warmed. Much better, but still not the best bun I have ever had. In a pinch I would say yes, these are $ 1.50 each(good price)…like you just came from a bar and nothing else is open. If you are looking for a very sophisticated pork bun, this isn’t it, but it isn’t terrible either.

Above average take-out Chinese. Fast, clean, friendly. I have been going to WF for years. The quality is consistent and reliable. Highly recommended. Their bean curd szechuan, buddah’s delight, vegetable egg foo young and eggrolls are my personal favorites.

Wah Fung was like a beacon of light when I was walking around near midnight trying to find hot and sour soup after a long day at work. It was too good to be true. I ventured in, hesitantly asking, «Are you still open?» For the lady at the counter, the delivery man, and another employee to say, «yes! come in!» Beckoning and welcoming me. I ordered the chicken and string beans and a hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup was a good viscous consistency and had an adequate balance of hot and sour, although it could have had more taste. There was enough soup contents in it too. The chicken and string bean was a smaller portion than most take out places. It was decent and nothing special.

Had it not been for their delicious General Tso’s Tofu, I would give this restaurant a one star for customer service. Well, the lady over the counter who takes the order seems to be very unfriendly(yes, the one whose hair has auburn highlights!). She only wants to be nice to others whom she thinks that deserves it. For those who look strange to her, she is not friendly. We’ve gone to this place many times, but, one day, my best friend paid $ 12 for our meal. The lady said it’s only $ 11 that was paid. My best friend counted the money one by one in front of her and it added to $ 12. The lady took the money and counted it and put them in the register without even apologizing. How rude!!!

Extremely sub-par, even given the low expectations I had for it, this is among the worst take-out Chinese places I’ve ever eaten at. The wonton soup was bland, the general tso’s chicken was soggy, although the broccoli was good, the boneless spare-ribs were mostly fat, and I’m pretty sure that the sauce on my sesame noodles was made with mayonnaise. All that said, the prices were very low, and the food was not inedible, just very disappointing. You’re better off with Dragon Phoenix, just a few blocks up.

Pretty decent Americanized Chinese take out. Coming from San Francisco(the land of great cheap Chinese food!), it’s a bit a a let down that they don’t put as much meat and veggies and the price is rather high($ 10 for beef lo mein!!!), but it’s New York and things just aren’t as cheap. Taste-wise, so far, the food is decent. I’ve been there twice and I plan to go back again to try some of their other dishes. Service has been very good. They are very nice about being accommodating and both pickup and delivery is very fast.

Tasty food. Really good staple dishes, like chicken and broccoli, General Tso’s, Orange beef. Crispy eggrolls and good wonton soup. I am a fan of the BBQ beef stick. They make pan fried wontons(made like fried dumplings) to special order. They are very good and customizing orders. They always make me garlic chicken with just broccoli, no carrots or any other veggies. Fast delivery, friendly drivers. They deliver in all kinds of weather. Limited seating, only about 4 tables.
