Awesome place go go eat. The souvlaki is so tasty. They also do great burgers. I don’t recommend the greek fries though. The feta cheese is not melted and its dry and diced on top of fries. Great authentic tasting souvlaki

SVL is a Greek restaurant hidden away next to a Starbucks in Queens. The décor is very modern and European and the food is so good. The lunch specials are very affordable, including a drink, fries, and a gyro with your choice of pork or chicken. The fries were some of the best I’ve had, seasoned with rosemary and salt, and the gyros were great as well. It was a great little spot to grab lunch.

Wonderful staff, great gyros and very clean modern place. Location is good with meters for parking. The gyro had fries in it too! Can’t wait to go back.

My two VERY Greek friends brought me here as part of our neverending search for the best gyros. Friendly staff. Top notch pork gyros. Between the entrance and the inside, there’s no way you’d think this would be a top gyro spot It’s very modern, sleek and red. Definitely not your typical flying Greek flags all over the place joint. However, when it comes to food, I loved it all. I highly suggest the platter. LOTS of meat, good sized salad, fries and of course the pita. Speaking of meat, the pork is delicious. Well seasoned and has a nice crispy edge to go along w/the succulent meaty inside. One thing I learned about is tyrokafteri — feta cheese, olive oil and spicy chili peppers pureed into a spread. Apparently, SVL makes this better than most. I wouldn’t doubt it. I really can eat that stuff all day with their nicely toasted pita. One downfall is that the food takes a relatively long time to come out. I’d say 20 minutes for a gyro pita. I dunno if it’s the fries that take long or if they’re waiting for the gyro on the vertical grill to brown, but the wait is definitely noticeable. The bathroom is nice. Almost everything is automatic, though I do wish they used an Xlerator hand dryer instead of the less powerful, cheaper equivalent. Free refills on soda. Highly recommend this place.

Very good when it’s fresh! The first time I ordered I was not that impressed as the meet was dry… i ordered the chicken souvlaki on the skewer… I decided to give it a second chance and I have not been disappointed ever since!!! The staff is friendly, the space is very clean and modern. I highly recommend it!!!

Without question the best traditional pork gyros in Astoria. Excellent service, extremely clean and fresh food. Can’t ask for anything else!

They put fries in their gyros without you asking them to! And their sandwich is the perfect proportion of meat to tomato to onion to fries to tzatziki. not to much meat where you’re getting only meat in your bite but not small enough that eating only one is just a hilarious joke. The closest thing to the gyros in Greece that I’ve ever had in Astoria. Plus their Horiatiki Salad is delicious – flavorful tomatoes, cucumbers, just enough onion, capers, good quality feta and olive oil with just the right amount of balsamic(i usually don’t put any but I discovered this gives a nice edge to the flavor).oh and they give a whole ton of gyro meat when you add it to a salad. Ohh, I love them.

Possibly the cleanest place in New York, great food to go along with the modern design! We had the gyro platter and it was delicious! Highly recommended!

The feta filled beef Kebob gyro is dank af. French fries overload. Make sure you get the special sauce. Only downside is that they didn’t have lamb.

Great food, generous portions, A+ service! It’s overall a self-served spot, but the staff came over and checked up on us quite regularly. We ordered the sampler gyro shots that came with 4 different gyros: chicken gyro, pork gyro, loukanko(a type of sausage), and kabob($ 15.00) All were tasty, but the pork gyro was the best! Highly recommend ordering a full version of that juicy pork for just $ 6.95. We also got a free order of fries from our Unilocal check-in! Definitely a worthy and generous offer! We came super hungry and left stuffed.

My husband and I popped in and because there were no pictures anywhere we had a bit of hard time deciding what to get. They recommended we get the little pita sampler so we went for it. It was quite filling and for 15 $ my husband and I walked out totally stuffed and satisfied. The pitas were very good, the sauce was a bit on the mild side and I wold have liked to see more sauce to lift the flavor of the meat(even though the tzaziki inside was great) maybe like a spicy pickled pepper or some Sort of hot sauce but they gave us these little chipotle and house sauces on the side and those splashed on made our little gyros divine. The meats were very tender and my favorite one was the Kebab! Very juicy and great flavor… The service was EXCELLENT. Very helpful and polite The the establishment and bathrooms pristine clean … Overall I would definitely come back next time I am in the area and can’t wait to try something else on their menu

One of the best gyro /lentil soup I’ve ever had. It was so surprising, since the modern /industrial interior makes you wonder if the food is authentic. BUTIT’S SERIOUSLYSOGOOD. Very clean, simple, cheap, and most importantly delicious. I don’t know how else or how much I can say that the food is amazing. Pork gyro is amazing, lentil soup became my favorite, my friend had a burger and said it was one of the best, and the fries are pretty awesome too. I’ve tried it both in and delivered. Seriously, try this place.

I wanted to love it particularly because of its great location and sleek look. But nothing I ordered really stood out to me. Maybe I’ve been spoiled because of BZ or Astoria in general but the greek fries were just regular fries with maybe 2 or 3 teeny pieces of feta on them, and no discernible seasoning. I had the chicken gyro and felt like it was sparse on actual chicken. I wanted a new go-to carry out gyro place but I wasn’t inspired to go back. Great modern look and good service, I just wish the food matched.

Best gyro ever!!! I’m not exaggerating. Can’t wait to come back. Taste is just superior. Tried both chicken and pork. Can’t go wrong with either. My only problem I found is that they didn’t have the little honey donuts. Btw place is so new it looks immaculate and very clean. Including the bathrooms where everything is automated. :)

This place probably serves the best and most authentic gyro you can find in Astoria(there’s only one other food truck that compares). When I walked in, I was impressed by everything in SVL Bar. The place is new, very clean and has a unique store design. You can see the entire food prep area and everyone working there is friendly. I eat a lot… so I ordered a pork gyro sandwich, a souvlaki stick AND an order of fries… just for myself. The food was ready within 10 minutes and it was all amazing. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the gyro definitely was the closest thing I’ve had to the gyros of Greece. I definitely recommend stopping by!

Delicious! I live nearby and have been waiting for this place to open forever. It’s kind of hidden due to construction, but it’s located next to the Starbucks on Astoria Blvd. I ordered the Chicken Gyro and fingerling potatoes. The staff(I believe he was also the owner) was very friendly. The food presentation(plates, etc) was really good. And the portions were a good size! Honestly no complaints about this place. Can’t wait to go again.

YES, finally! Though we’re not Greek(obviously) but from Chicago, my wife and I always thought we knew good gyros – Greeks in Chicago are, after all, credited with introducing gyros to the US, and we both went to college next to Greektown. We discovered how wrong we were about gyros a few years ago on vacation in Athens. Authentic Athenian gyros are small, but pack a punch; they have tzatziki and another spread that tastes garlicky; fries come inside the sandwich, not on the side; veggies are fresh but not overwhelming; and they’re always sprinkled with paprika. We searched Dubai(where we were living at the time) and Chicago’s Greektown for an authentic Athenian gyro, and folks had no idea what we meant. Last year we moved to Astoria; we figured of all places this neighborhood would satisfy our gyro cravings, but we found the same ol’ mediocre Americanized Chicago-style gyros everywhere. …Until SVL! We read reviews online by Greek folks claiming it’s the real deal, and found a positive TripAdvisor page for an SVL with the same logo in Athens; since we’re one subway stop away, I had to peep. I’ll tell ya: This is the best, most authentic, most close-to-Greek gyro we’ve had outside of Athens. Size, ingredients, flavor, everything! They don’t deliver yet so the gyros were less-than-hot by the time I walked home, but a gyro this good should be enjoyed fresh at the bar.

Ordered the chicken gyro and hand-cut greek fries with their house sauce and chipotle sauce on the side. The service here is great. I got the chicken gyro with everything inside and it was amazing. The house sauce goes perfectly with the sandwich. Their chipotle sauce is also delicious. My only complaint is about the fries. I wasn’t a huge fan but it may be because my order was to-go. Will be coming in to give them another go next time

Great addition to the neighborhood. Was craving Some Greek food last night and decided to give this place a try. Ordered the chicken gyro and pork gyro with everything on it and their house sauce. They were both very flavorful and juicy and went really well with the house sauce. The food is fresh and the quality stands out. Definitely coming back to try other things on their menu.
