I have no major qualms about Omonia Café. Thankfully it does not actually smell like ammonia. It is a pretty standard diner in a very convenient location to me. I had a burger with fries, which was plenty tasty, and my girlfriend got an orange and walnut salad, which she said was fine. It was pretty drafty where we were sitting. I’ve been told to find what you like to eat here and stick with it, that the food is hit or miss. I haven’t experienced that yet, and I’m sure I’ll be back. It is the closest thing we have to a diner in winter walking distance.

Whenever I’m in the area I always stop by for a slice of baklava cheesecake! It happens to be one of my all time favorite desserts and now that I’ve introduced it to my boyfriend it’s his new fave also. I’ve tried many different pastries and cakes over the years but things just seemed too dry or just stale. The baklava cheesecake has always been a hit and I’ve never had an issue with it being dry considered it’s soaked in this luscious honey syrup. The Nutella macaroons are also pretty damn good; but if you go later at night they are usually sold out.

I really enjoy this place. I’ve been twice — once for dinner and once just for dessert and coffee. The ambience is the best part for me. I love the lighting and décor backset with twinkle lights and the busy intersection. It almost feels like you’re inside an aquarium. Plus the food is delicious and reasonably priced and every person I’ve ever interacted with is friendly and welcoming.

i have been doing some soul searching and had an epiphany. People and business should be not just beautiful from outside but what inside matters the most. Watch out Confucius, armed with that knowledge I can start my own religion since Scientology proved that any half baked idea seems appetizing to the hungry masses. Anyhow, back to the tale of a rum babka and flan. In the past 5 years, I used to make a stop at Omonia for my doze of sugar. And sadly quality have declined lower and lower every time when I visit the spot. During my past couple visits I got Napolean, Tiramisu, Chocolate cake, and canolis. Quality of a product is unbelievably bad-even store bought cakes tastes much better that this«fresh baked» goods. There is a lot of cream on every product, much higher than standard base vs cream ratio, it is very soggy, tasteless and too sugary hence there are no any other flavors in it. It is very nauseating to eat since all you taste is butter, and if they still selling this product to the wide number of restaurants in the city like they used to, from now on if I go to any restaurant that carries their product-I honestly will skip the dessert which i usually highlight of my dinner. It is a very sad review for me since I love Astoria and now I need to find another dessert place worthy of my rarely liked Instagram pages.

Being that I was in the neighborhood and was craving for dessert, olé trusty Unilocal App directed me to this lovely café. There are two sides of the café. One side was more of a bakery where you can pick out your pastries or cake to go and the other was more of a restaurant. As soon as you enter upon the restaurant side, the lit up colorful bar will definitely catch your eye. You will be directed to your seat, which is a step up on a higher flooring, by a pleasant waitress. The menu is huge and not only desserts/pastries, but a whole selection from breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner food options to a list of alcoholic beverages. Since I was only here for dessert, I flipped through numerous pages to finally get to the pastries section. Because I love cheese cake, my instincts told me to go for the Baklava Cheesecake. The Baklava Cheesecake was basically the Baklava with Cheesecake in between. The Baklava is a gala pastry prepared with a mixture of nuts, spices, syrup baked in phyllo. This was so indulgent but a bit heavy due to the cheese cake. My co worker that accompanied me ordered the Bougatsa which was a warm subtly sweet custard filled puff phyllo pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar. This was a great choice for the cold weather and goes well with some coffee. So yeah two thumbs up for dessert but two thumbs down for the Specialty Coffees. This was absolutely a disappointment. I ordered the Café Frangelico which was Hazelnut liqueur with hot coffee topped with whipped cream. My co-worker ordered the Bailey’s café which was just Bailey’s liqueur with hot coffee topped with whipped cream. Both our drinks were $ 7.95 each but it tasted like regular hot coffee with whipped cream on top. For mine there wasn’t even a hint of Hazelnut rather yet liqueur. For the Bailey’s it was a a small accent of it but barely there. What’s upsetting is the price for this. I could have gotten a pretty high quality cup of coffee elsewhere for this price. Overall, I would like to come back for Brunch and dessert but not for Specialty Coffee.

I’ve only actually visited this bakery for dessert, but that being said it is a decent spot to get your dessert fix on. I’ve tried to Pantikai and the baklava cheesecake(one of my favorites). I’ve also resorted to buying party desserts from here. It’s one of the few queens bakeries that still exist with great tasting pastries. The café itself is very big and located on the corner on the block. Overall not a bad option to pick up a dessert.

Omonia café is one of my favorite cafes. enough table and moody atmosphere. Moreover, I like Cappuccino Fudge and Caramel Cake! They are so sweet ;)(I guess someone doesn’t like that, it is so sweet.)

I’ve been there a couple of times and I do like the place, the ambience is cozy and the music is really good. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because If there’s no bartender which means that servers need to make drinks by themselves, they should know how to make a mojito, at least. I had two different drinks and they were not good, but still. I would go back. It just happened cause they didn’t have a bartender that night. The food is awesome, it comes fast even though they are busy. Don’t skip dessert, very fresh and tasty. I recommend this place.

I have come here a few times for a late night snack with friends. It is definitely great for desserts. This particular visit I had the chicken bruschetta. I was not a fan since the bread got soggy from the red peppers and had way too much chopped fresh basil on it. As a basil lover it shocked me that it was actually«too much» for me. The chicken was grilled nicely but I just wished it was the crispy traditional bruschetta I am used too. My friend had the almond cake which she enjoyed but the slices are huge so it is best to share. Another friend had the chocolate cake that he enjoyed as well. A friend who got the french toast said it was bland and hence the need to add so much butter and maple syrup. Still a good spot to go to since they are open until 2AM. They also have great cocktails for those of you interested in keeping the party going. I think next time I will stick to cake or fries which are their best options.

I lived in Astoria for six years and a customer at this restaurant for a long time. My wife is a big fan of the carrot cake and cheesecake especially Red velvet. recently the quality of the cake is way down and old. Yesterday we bought the red velvet cake and immediately after I tasted it. The taste was somewhat weird. And if you take a close look at the cake, outside layer is dry, while inside was a little moist indicating this cake was old or not well kept. But the reason that I ate half of it because I feel somewhat expensive. I have called the restaurant to let them know that they should maintain their quality. If they have leftover cake, theshould make a new one. I hope my message can help them to improve the quality. Because I love this restaurant.

I’ve never actually dined in the restaurant, but my roommates and I often wander into the bakery to pick up a late-night dessert. The baklava cheesecake and marble cheesecake are amazing. 3 stars because some of their other desserts are pretty pitiful, and one time the baklava cheesecake was bad. Really bad. But I’ve had it many times before and since, and normally it’s delicious. Worth a try if you have a sweet tooth and want a unique dessert.

One star for TERRIBLE service, bland food, and an awful menu(try condensing it) Yes they have a TON of pastries and yes they have long hours, but you need more than this to have a great establishment. This place reminds me of an Ibiza diner… on drugs. The lights are a bit excessive on the side of the whole building. Will stay away at all costs

A Landmark in Astoria. Old school décor and great service synthesizes the experience you need for a great coffee and huge selection of desserts. I went there last Saturday for brunch. I was extremely amazed from the server’s patience to explain me everything I asked on a busy Saturday morning. She was helpful and she recommended me the amigdalou dessert which I loved. I had the famous greek frappé(there is an extra charge for that in the brunch pre fixed, which I didn’t mind after it tasted soo good) Tried the strapatsada which is a traditional scrambled egg with tomato mix and of course the dessert. Spot on !! Great brunch, great people(I think the waitress that served me her name was Sveti or Tseti as I’m not sure the way she pronounced it but she was so sweet and helpful) I definitely coming back for more coffee and more sweets.

Came here with two friends on a Friday night for a late dinner and drinks. The food was delicious, but I was disappointed with the drinks. I don’t recommend ordering the Passionfruit Mojito because when I did they just gave me a regular mojito. No hint of passionfruit at all.

I’ve been coming to Omonia for years and years and years!!! Its definitely a nice spot for coffee and desserts or even drinks. The staff is very nice and attentive. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. A great place to chat and catch up. The cappuccino is great and the desserts even better. My last time here, we ordered drinks late night. I ordered a jack and coca cola and my friend ordered sambucca. It was nicely done. The drinks were strong. We stayed for another round. It was a nice evening. There is no denying that I will be at Omonia Café again.

Disgusting cocktails, lame service and not to mention a manager with a 1920 mentality. They couldn’t care less about my concerns. I tip the server $ 0.00 and called America Express to fight the charge. With so many amazing places popping all over Astoria, going to this place would be a waste.

Once you taste the spinach pie at Omonia you can never live without it again. It becomes a permanent part of your memory bank. The taste & smell comes back at the most inopportune times; times when you know the spinach pie isn’t anywhere near. The pie comes with a large amazing salad that is served on the plate, rather than in a salad bowl. This serving choice appears to add to the delectable taste. The ingredients are amazingly fresh. The dressing is just the right touch. It’s enough to add flavor but not too much to overpower the ingredients. The spinach pie & salad are a perfect comfort food after a long day or hectic drive. They are my meal of choice when it’s late, I’m really hungry, and have been on the road for a greater part of the day. Cocktails are not their forte. The vodka martini had an odd taste, even when sent back for correction. My son ordered a Black Russian & had to explain to the server what it was. There are two paths to enter. One is directly into the restaurant area. The other is past the most amazing display case filled with scrumptious looking pastries & desserts. If one is on a diet they must walk quickly past, keeping their eyes straight ahead. Greek desserts must surely have been a temptation even to the ancient gods. If not for the cocktail fiasco this review would have been a 5. I’m certain that can be remedied.

Cons: 1) tiramisu too sweet and too much sugar; 2) soap box is leaking; 3) girls not very welcoming… Pros: 1) nice garden yard, but hardly figure out that they have one… They better advertise that, more people will come; 2) big restroom.

I wanted to be in love. It is rare when I go out of my way to purchase sinful desert and I was overwhelmed with choices, but I fear, much like Indy, I chose poorly. Snabbed a slice of Oreo mouse cake and tiramisu cheesecake and 2 coffees. Ok so cheesecake — pretty good. The sponge was a little dry but flavor was good. … then the mouse… there was kinda a weird scent to me. like. burnt plastic. I was so sad! I should have gone for the oreo cheesecake. there are few things as disappointing as allowing yourself to order fatty fatty desert and then not liking it :( At least the cheesecake was pretty decent.

Been wanting to go to Omonia for years and finally made it for lunch. As much as I really wanted to like it, I’m sad to say I was not impressed. It started from the beginning when we waited about 15 minutes for a waiter to approach our table. He finally came and was not friendly or polite at all — no «hi,» just walked up with a notepad waiting for us to say the order. As far as the food… we had fried calamari for an appetizer and were pleasantly surprised by how big the portion was! The calamari itself was not too bad. I had the seafood wrap and thought it was pretty good — shrimp and bacon actually tasted good together. The bad part is that my husband’s chicken souvlaki wrap was not good at all. The chicken was very dry and the meal was not appetizing. Whomp, that sucks. I think I will give this place another shot. next time I will definitely try some desserts!

Me not eating chocolate isn’t a thing. If it ever happens, check my temperature and see if I have a fever. I’m literally obsessed with chocolate, I probably consume it more often then I consume water. And I drink a lot of water. I bought a Snickers cupcake to share with a friend. The Snickers was good, I mean, it’s Snickers. lol. The frosting was too thick and too sweet like 95% of places, and the cake itself was dry and flavorless. We didn’t finish it. And I didn’t have a fever. Anyway, I’ve been here a couple times and it has never been memorable. Service is meh, pastries are meh. Prices are cheap, and there is a cute backyard, although it smelled terrible and I couldn’t breathe at all while I was out there. I had to leave. I probably won’t be going back. There are just way too many places with yummy chocolate treats. I can also just buy a delicious Cadbury bar at the nearby Rite Aid and get 50 times more satisfaction out of that.

Omonia is a traditional European diner disguised as a restaurant. Brunch is very thoughtfully done with an excellent selection. Start with cocktails, followed by entrée, and wrap it up with dessert and coffee. Cocktails needed a heavier pour. For a fresher selection, I wouldnt recommend the chicken Cesare salad which was heavily dressed and clearly not made in house. For dessert, we got macaroons next door. The had a similar consistency to an oreo although not as flavorful. I blame the refrigerated cooler they were sitting and not the chefs however. I would recommend this place for groups of people that are more interested in the atmosphere than the food.

I’ve only gotten the dessert here and it is amazing. They have so many options and everything I’ve tried is delicious. If you are into cheesecake they have probably 10ish different kinds. The 7 layer chocolate cake is amaaazing. Another great plus is they are open really late, I think until 4AM or later. Great for a late night snack if you have a sweet tooth!
