Went here last night with my husband and our friend. I wanted to check this place out since I saw it promoting on my local Elite page. I went to the«Seafood Showdown» Unilocal Elite event here and had a great time, but I wanted to come back during normal hours to check out the main menu. I decided to come on a Monday to check out the $ 1 oyster night winter special. I had a glass of cab for happy hour and a dozen of the dollar blue point oysters, with one of each of the other varieties of oysters just to check them out. To be honest, I wasn’t crazy about my blue points. They tasted off to me. They tasted a little funky to me. Just didn’t taste fresh. But given the other reviews I’m reading, I feel like this must be a one-off here. I decided to get half a dozen of the house cherry point oysters afterwards to make up for it, and they were MUCH better. Very sweet, plump, delicious, and fresh. So if you are going here for oysters, I HIGHLY suggest going for the cherry points. I ordered a Smoking Bishop cocktail, which is a heavenly warm mulled rum. I could drink those all night! It was amazingly good. And perfect for a winter evening. For my entre, I had the lobster roll which came with coleslaw and chips. It was delicious! Perfect balance of flavor in the lobster roll. Coleslaw was on point, and those chips were darn tasty! They were paper thin, crispy, and fresh — and they make them fresh in-house. My husband had the alligator meatballs for an appetizer and the skirt steak sandwich. He loved both. Our friend had blue point oysters as well, though he says his tasted fine, for the record. He also got yucca fries and muscles. Both of them were very happy with their selections. I will note, that I also sampled the clam chowder during the Unilocal event I intended and it was great, so that’s another item I can happily recommend. Overall, this is a great seafood shack style place — which is very rare to find in Astoria, let alone NY. It is on the pricey side but the quality makes it worth it. Service was good and the owner was very attentive, working the floor and making sure everything was running smoothly. If I were to recommend a nice sampling of food here, I would say get a bowl of clam chowder, a dozen cherry point oysters, a side of yucca fries and a Smoking Bishop to drink.

Being the self proclaimed seafood/shellfish addict that I am, couldn’t wait to try this place! Located off the beaten path on a relatively quiet block and away from the hubbub of the main avenues. Charmingly decorated interior with the bar located on the left side in the back of the restaurant. They also have a cozy yet inviting patio by the bar for those warmer days. It has oceanic painted walls to envelope you in of the sea splendor. Food/Drinks: House Oysters — fresh and tasty, really can’t go wrong ordering these! Maine Lobster Roll — the only thing I enjoyed about this dish were the homemade potato chips it came with! It was bland with more roll than lobstah! How dare they?! Crab Burger — mildly better than the aforementioned roll but still a little lifeless. Red Sangria — lacking complexity and alcohol Service: We were there for dinner during the week and they weren’t that busy at all on that particular evening. Seated not too far from the bar within a stone’s throw view of the bartender, we continuously had to get his attention to order more drinks and/or find our server. The food also took awhile to come out. Altogether, I had high hopes for this place and will give it another go returning this evening for an elite event. I’m anticipating they’ll do well and win me over!

Came here once for their brunch and this time went on Christmas Eve to have seafood as Italians do. They had a 7 fish, 4 course menu, which my mom had. Each meal was rightly portioned and my mom loved each dish. I had the grilled oysters and the salmon. The grilled oysters weren’t as flavorful as the ones I tried in New Orleans, but the salmon was definitely tasty with the creamy mashed potatoes and the porcini mushrooms. It’s such a cute place with small outdoor seating and two swings inside.

We had takeout shrimp mofongo and hubby has chicken with Mac and cheese. We also has their homemaid ginger ale– everything was delicious! We’ll definitely go back to dine in.

Even though, I came here on a full stomach. I still tried their clam chowder in a bowl and a hot alcoholic beverage called Rudy’s Treasure(I think I got the name right…). The clam chowder portion was huge. It was perfect because it was freezing that night. Plus, my drink had rum in it and it was hot… so that had me sweating bullets. The drink was seriously the strongest rum drink I’ve ever had. Our waiter was a little awkward and clueless. When he was explaining the specials for the night, he kept stuttering and repeating himself and looking back onto his notepad. Lol… Oh, and the oysters weren’t too bad either. Not fishy at all. I’d come back again.

The spot is located in the corner of a inside in Astoria, is good cause you don’t have to deal with the main Commuters like in Steinway. The food is standard and the drinks seems to be water down. Ask for a second shot of Tequila for my drink, Tasted like water. The oyster were good and decently fresh, we order fries as well and they were perfectly cooked and crispy! The service was decent and lay back. I Wanted to try this restaurant for a while but everytime I called they were in construction. Funny to say when I finally came it didn’t seem nothing was newly renovated. Instead I think there bathroom was disgusting, it made me think twice about there hygiene, but it was too late cuz I already ate, Lol !!! Not sure if coming back. I might give them a second chance . Hope they clean the bathroom.:/

This place is the truth!!! I visited Off The Hook for their late day happy hour 10p-Close. Oysters were just as fresh and clean as I had it in Manhattan. Place is understated but who cares– I came for the oysters. The clam chowder was amazing and $ 4 Pinot Grigio made me do a little dance inside. Staff was very hospitable. Complimentary watermelon from the bartender that I had for my desert. Yum yum. Extra star is for playing afrobeat music.

The oysters could get this palce a 5 star. They were amazing. But everything else was just OK. The portions are small but expensive and it’s over all. not a memorable meal. Service is friendly, though. My party ordered Clam Chowder. It was very watery and bland. we had to empty out the salt and pepper shakers for it to taste like something. The mac and cheese was good but not very cheesy. The lobster roll was 17 dollars for 3 bites of food! Overall, I left hungry and broke. I wouldn’t return. Maybe only for the oysters.

Great local spot. Tried an appetizer special made up of shrimp, sweet potato and I think mango which I thought was delicious. Also ordered the crabby patty which made me smile as it brought the image of spongebob to my mind. It was ok but I wish it had come with a sauce to dip it in. In retrospect I should have asked for some. The drinks were also delicious here

My friend’s skirt steak sandwich was A-MAZING. I had shrimp mofongo, I LOVED the shrimp but I also realised I’m not a huge fan of mofongo. The Yuca fries that came with the steak sandwich were good but cut a little too thick. The grilled oysters however, were good. Juicy, and you can wipe that goodness up with the crusty baguette that comes with it.

Saw this place while I was driving home and decided to give it a try. This place was a hit. I wish I knew about it sooner. It’s a nice little seafood place in Astoria. Everything we ordered from drink to entrees was on point. The shrimp and sweet potato tower was fantastic. The hooks bay oysters were good. The crabby patty was one of the best crab cake sandwiches I’ve had. Definitely recommend coming here. I will be coming back to try the lobster Mac and cheese.

Great place! For appetizers three of us shared fresh steamed mussels in a delicious sauce that required two orders of bread to sop it all up! Moved on to perfectly grilled oysters and sweet broiled bay scallops. For the main course two of us shared grilled mahi mahi crusted with bacon and a tangy cilantro sauce. It was accompanied by a very tasty avocado cream risotto. Our third person had crispy fried scallops on a roll with really good coleslaw and chips. We couldn’t stuff desert in even though they were very tempting. I did have a glass of my favorite sipping rum, Flor de Caña, from Nicaragua. They have an extensive list of delicious rums. The waitstaff was very attentive and ALL the seafood was really fresh and cooked just right– not overdone or dry. I cannot say that for most of the many good restaurants in Astoria I have eaten at. Finally, the prices are very good for the excellent quality and decent portions. I will definitely become a regular!

Was here yesterday, really nice and quiet spot. Started with the grilled oysters, they were amazing! Definitely recommended! After that was the lobster Mac and cheese which was ok 6⁄10. Not that much lobster in it, the bacon worked well though. For entrees I had the crabby patty. Its basically a big crab cake, its seasoned well and on brioche. It was just as filling as a burger and the sauce complemented it perfectly. 8⁄10 because the brioche was burnt and it definitely could have used more sauce. The fries were just decent also. Overall you should check it out, its a nice date spot really cozy. The waiters were excellent and they have a pretty good happy hour special if oysters are your thing.

Good spot when you’re craving seafood in Astoria, but need a break from the usual Greek joints. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, the service is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Went on a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was pretty quiet. They have an interesting brunch menu, which includes one dollar blue point oysters. We had the grilled oysters(app) and the lobster roll. Both were nice, balanced dishes. The grilled oysters came on the half shell, prepared in a buttery broth with some cheese and herbs; a few slices of bread were included. The lobster roll size was good(not skimping like some places), but some of the lobster was slightly on the rubbery side. The lobster came with homemade chips, which were excellent. Nothing here was exceptional, nothing was bad. I’d recommend this place for Astorians who want maybe a modern standard American seafood meal.

Love the name and the chill Astoria vibe going on here. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night and were able to grab a table in the backyard. The restaurant is not that big and a great choice if you are a small group that loves seafood. Particularly, oyster lovers. I just love seafood but my hungry half enjoys oysters. I think he could gobble down a dozen in a flash. They have a decent selection ranging from Canada to Virginia caught. We tried a sampler with a side of crab cake to share. The crab cake was so darn good, I ordered another!(It’s ok to judge, but I DON’T care!) As if having great food wasn’t enough, their mixed cocktails was also reasonably priced and well prepared. The Sweet Action — Maker’s Mark, passion fruit and other ingredients come together to create a tasty drink. Lastly, staff was friendly, helpful and kept the place running smoothly. Looking forward to return for more Off the Hook seafood.

Came here after searching for a good seafood restaurant that serves salmon(Surprisingly, not many). Outside it looks cute. If I were just passing by I may not have thought it was as big as it is. Inside the lights are dim and the music is good. They also have a small section out back for dinning as well as in the front. It wasn’t busy and we got seated right away. Our waitress and bartender were both very friendly(and patient lol). The food came out with perfect timing. The drinks took about as long as we did deciding what to eat. The grilled oysters were delicious but sadly, gone too soon. Also, I saw some pictures where they were all cheesy looking and ours were not. That was what originally had me sold. For entrées, my friend had the grilled salmon and I had the shrimp mofongo. The salmon comes with chives mash and shiitake mushrooms. The mash and mushrooms were delicious. Can’t say much on the salmon as I don’t eat it. The shrimp mofongo was a bit disappointing. The sauce and the amount of shrimp was good imo(there was more shrimp inside the mofongo), but I was under the impression that mofongo was a salty dish. My plantains were sweet and so I feel that took away from the dish. For dessert we had the baked apples and they were delicious! They had a spice to them that was kind of burning but not in a bad way. I would definitely come back as the food was delish and the service was great. I would not recommend the shrimp mofongo though.

$ 1 oysters during Happy Hour! Very fresh and delicious. Have also come in here for dinner before as well. Lots of great choices to choose from so we went with everything we wanted to try. Grilled oysters were flavorful and tasty. Not too heavy, but had just the right amount of butter and cheese. PEI Mussels had an addictive white wine sauce that we couldn’t stop dipping bread in even after we ate all the mussels. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were large and the cocktail sauce had just the right amount of horseradish. Absolutely loved the Maine Lobster Roll. I hate mayo, but this had the perfect amount of lemon mayo. Nothing beats homemade potato chips with a lobster roll. I’d pass on the truffle potato skins. They were potato skins with a few, tiny shavings of truffle. No cheese, no bacon. absolutely nothing else on top of them. Service was wonderful. You can see everyone working collectively as a team to make sure patrons are enjoying their dining experience there.

I came here this past Sunday for lunch and there was only a few customers. We first ordered a dozen oysters which took 30 minutes to come out. That’s ridiculous!!! Then the food forever also. I don’t understand how hard it is to prepare mussels and a Krabby Burger. Overall the food was good but the experience was ruined by the long wait. Also don’t forget to try to White Sangria if you come here!!!

SOGOOD! I was visiting Astoria and had a craving for seafood. My friend said she had the perfect place — and it was! Small and intimate. Super cute and delicious hand crafted cocktails. I had the Gin Fizz, my girlfriend had the Sweet Action. We chose the calamari for appetizer, and although it was a smaller amount than I’m used to it was very fresh and tasty. After staring at the menu for ever, I chose the Grilled Atlantic Salmon with chive mashed potatoes and shiitake mushrooms. It was literally the most heavenly piece of salmon I’ve ever consumed. It was covered in a light cream sauce, and it honestly could not have been any more perfect. I’m booking my next trip to NYC just to eat this again! I can’t wait :)

I called Off the hook to make sure they had a high chair available at around 8PM on a Thursday night, knowing it was a small place. The person who answered the phone was kind and said they had one, and would set it aside for us. My mother, boyfriend & our 2.5 year old walked in and the décor was super cute. It is definitely on the smaller side, and I feel like next time I will leave the baby at home. The servers seemed to second as the managers — maybe its more of a team effort type of thing? which is cool. I was upset that I had to ask on person twice, and then a different person a third time for a second glass of sauvignon blanc. That was truly my only pet peeve, the place would have gotten 4 stars if it wasn’t for that. We were 1 of 2 tables at the time, so to me I did not understand how this happened, lack of attention or care? The food was great, for appetizers– ½ dozen mixed oysters, a dozen steamed clams and a bowl of the special soup of the day, crab bisque. My oysters were on the small side and came in at about 15.00 for the half dozen(can’t wait to come try out the happy hour or special oyster day deals). For entrees, the lobster roll was on the smaller side at $ 17, but it was SO delicious. It was served with homemade potato chips and a side of cole slaw. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and devoured it in minutes. My mother opted for the lobster mac and cheese appetizer as an entrée and it was a decent portion size and tasty. We ordered a dessert because my little girl insisted — which was also good. I love oysters, seafood and lobster rolls and hate traveling far for them — so I will be back! Total for three adults and a toddler who didn’t eat? 136.00 without tip.
