Without a doubt the cleanest place to eat at. I’ve been coming here since I’ve been a little kid and still love everything about this place. For breakfast or for lunch I highly recommend this place and you know you won’t get sick unlike some of the other dirty places in the neighborhood.

Very friendly staff, good coffee, good bread, cold cuts for me have always been good better than any of the local supermarkets, I haven’t tried any microwaveable pasta they sell but oneday I will give it a shot. It’s down the block so it’s my local spot it’s clean they can actually do bacon egg cheese. When the line is out the door to Brooklyn bagel give this place a shot.(they have bagels too)

Homemade Fresh Mozzarella is a must and the fresh pasta they sell. They even sell homemade marinara sauce if you don’t want to make it at home. You will never buy boxed pasta again at the supermarket. Great selection for sandwiches! Friendly staff!

When I moved to NYC from Italy in 2011, this place practically kept me alive for the first 4 months, before I started enjoying non-italian cuisines. The selection of imported items is fantastic. I love how they keep getting more and more Italian items. Anytime I want to cook an Italian lunch/dinner, D&F is my go to place to pick up all the necessary ingredients. My parents came to visit and my mom went there everyday. It’s literally like going to the neighborhood Salumeria back in Italy. Finally, the people working there are awesome.

Good Unilocal reviews, disappointing experience. Eggplant sandwich was okay. I forgot to ask for mayo and mustard on my Italian hero and there was none… I think that’s the protocol, but I wish the server would have asked. I wound up not eating it because it was too dry. I did like some of the food on display, but unfortunately didn’t order any… great looking mozzarella and tomatoes, and the bread was very good. I was deciding between this place and Sorriso’s, which was further away, and sorry I didn’t try Sorriso’s.

D&F is as good as it gets! A true neighborhood spot that is invested in the community. The staff is so wonderful and really care for their customers(and we care for them too!). The store is meticulously clean and has a great selection of specialty items. The sandwiches are always on point and Gary’s homemade mozzarella is a staple in our house!

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for D&F before. I’ve been coming to this deli since I was a kid. Gary and his staff are amazing. The homemade mozzarella balls and sundried tomatoes are perfect. The coffee is great. The bread is always fresh. And the veggie lasagna… yummmm. Did I mention that the staff is awesome?

Had planned a visit on a Sunday for their lauded prosciutto bread(«They take the burnt ends of the prosciutto and fold it into a baguette-like bread.») but ended up here on a Friday grabbed an $ 8 italian combo hero(just oil, no vinegar) from a super nice guy(who was certainly Latino, not making it definitely not stereotypical the experience Ant K. had). The drink fridge is stocked with American drinks but they have some nice sundries and Italian groceries in the refrigerated section near the meat. Sadly the sandwich was very forgettable, with way too much bread compared to meat(echoing others).

The man at the counter had great suggestions. I wasn’t going off a recipe but knew the meal concept I was going for. Reasonable prices, delicious meats, and friendly staff. This is my new regular spot!

I bought a hero and they were super cheap with the cold cuts, it was a 80 to 20 ratio bread to meat. First and last time theyll see me.

D&F is the best… terrific heroes, breads, cold cuts, italian imports, pasta etc not to mention super friendly staff. I hesitate giving it such a glowing review only because I don’t want to spoil such a good secret.

I was in the area and looking for a local deli to get some breakfast and stumbled upon D&F on Unilocal. When you walk in, you immediately feel like you’re in an episode of the sopranos with the fresh meat hanging and the worker accents. I was also very surprised how cheap the bill was. I ordered two egg sandwiches and purchased three drinks for a grand total of $ 12.50 — pocket change. Overall the food was very good and I would definitely recommend it.

I usually come in to D&F for a quick sandwich, like the delicious chicken cutlet or a simple Italian combo. In the mornings, I usually go to Starbucks or Brooklyn Bagel for an iced coffee, but as I’ve recently discovered, the iced coffee at D&F is surprisingly perfect and well-crafted: much more flavorful than the bitter blends at Starbucks and certainly on par with the coffee at Brooklyn Bagel. I’d actually be interested in a Pepsi challenge here, but you know, with coffee. And at $ 0.30 cheaper than BB, you really can’t beat it. Plus, you’ll never have to wait 20 minutes in a line out the door. These Italians really care about their coffee. Definitely worth a try.

D&F Deli is the best deli ever. I order french vanilla cappuccino every morning, better than Starbucks! They carry amazing panini’s, hero’s and hot food. I love the section on the right when you walk in to buy things so you can cook at home. It is great because when I want to cook my husband a delicious Italian dinner, I go to D&F and it’s one stop and much better quality than supermarkets. Everything is always fresh and the place always looks so clean. Cool staff and excellent customer service.

If you’re looking for a neighborhood deli look no further. I stopped in here figuring they had pancetta and I was right. From the outside I wasn’t sure if it was just another bodega masquerading as an Italian deli. Thankfully, it’s got that old school deli flavor with the brightly lit, spotlessly clean new school style. I went in after breakfast but before lunch so I was the only one, not knowing the procedure I went straight to the back and noticed the orders are taken up front. I heard some staff talking behind the counter and as I was about to approach another voice asked if I needed help. I put in my order and as he repeated it back to me in probably the most beautiful way I’ve heard pancetta pronounced. Seriously, I’d never heard it with an accent before. Anyway, as I was waiting I heard someone else yelling at my guy about how he should have asked if I wanted thin or thick cut. «What if he wants to make a sandwich?!» Yelled is too strong, it’s like a mom berating you for not taking out the trash. My guy came back and asked for the cut which was thin. As I was waiting I checked out their sandwich prices and noticed they were pretty cheap and saw their frozen section. They make their own sauces, pastas and meat sauce and whole 1lb pasta dishes that are flash frozen. I bought their spaghetti and meatballs and a San Bendetto tea, all still under the $ 20 mark. The pancetta was great in my dish. I ended up eating the pasta later and it was good. Definitely better than something you would find cruising the freezer aisle at C-Town. I only wish that I worked nearby to try their sandwiches for lunch.

Two words: Italian Hoagie… Sandwiches aren’t made lightening fast, but this is a very family operated, truly Italian deli. Worth it! Great quality meats and cheeses, and the shop has a very nice selection of European and Italian imported food items. You can’t go wrong with this deli.

My favorite Italian deli in NYC, let alone Astoria. Family owned and run, they are so friendly and attentive. Delicious freshly baked goods(including humungous, flaky croissants and apple turnovers), Italian imports, frozen pasta, great sandwiches, and other essentials. You know it’s great when Italian-speaking grandmas and grandpas regularly come in to chat and order cured meats.

I decided to try out D&F for some cold cuts after reading how fellow Unilocalers are such fans. The cold cuts were good quality and they were sliced super thin, the way they should be. The homemade mozzarella was quite tasty. It was drier than other versions, but the flavor was quite good. Feels like an old school neighborhood store with friendly service.
