This place is the best out of 3 coin stores I have visited in the queens/​LI areas. Its a small place, owned and operated by two good people, Jen and Frank. They are both helpful and patient and will help you out if you are a beginner, like me, looking to learn as much as I can about this hobby. Always buy something when you go there, out of respect and support, as brick and mortar business/mom&pop shops are a dying breed.

1) The store is pretty close to the subway station, and has street parking. These things shouldn’t matter, but they do — it was convenient for me to get there from the city, and I love that.
2) The staff was excellent. It’s clearly a Mom-​and-​Pop shop; they were both there, they knew half the people coming in, and they created a fantastically warm and welcoming presence. Jennifer, the Mom in question, took plenty of time out of her day to speak with me on the details of the coins I was looking at, stayed firmly inside my price range, and even threw in a coin for free.
3) Earnest. The customer before me had come in looking to sell some silver. They actively counselled him against it, saying that the price had taken a dive in the last year, and that he was better off holding onto it and selling it when the price recovered. (I checked it against historical silver prices when writing this review, and it was true.) They could have easily taken him for his money, and flipped it for their own profit, but didn’t. Nor did they try to push me past my price range.
It’s rare when a shop owner doesn’t try to rip off their customers, and Astoria Coins seems to be that rarity.
I’m glad I made the trip over from the city.

I’ve dealt with the lovely couple who run this business on several occasions and they are really wonderful! I took in coins the first time and they helped me go through them, and when it turned out that they had accidentally overpaid me, they patiently waited while I sent them a check, and sent me a lovely card for being so honest about the situation. A few days ago, I took in some baseball stuff and had a great conversation with the owner about Frank Sinatra, The Rat Pack, etc. They are honest, hardworking, lovely people who run a fair-​dealing business.

They don’t update their website or Unilocal,so call before going to make sure they’re open.
I went all the way over there only to discover they are closed for the week. A total waste of time. Lame.

This is a great coin shop, They are very knowledgeable and friendly.

This is a nice small coin store. They have a nice assorted collection of coins to look at and buy. (World coins, silver dollars and coins, and some US mint sets) Very fair prices and the store owner is very easy to talk to. There are other collectibles here like comics, baseball cards and vintage toys. But lets face it its a coin store and thats the main focus.
The also have supplies, unlike many other dealers who owns a small booth and sells nothing else. I find myself coming in to pick up some quick supplies when I don’t want to make bulk orders online.
The store is worth the look even if you’re just coming in to look around. And besides I don’t see how anyone can complain when theres not too many coins stores in the NY Queens area to shop at. If there is any at all.

Its definitely not Sotheby’s but wow does he have a collection. Coins, bills, COMIC BOOKS and such! If you love the older stuff look around and buy a few! I’m coming back!
