THEREARENOBETTERACCOMMODATIONSINASHLAND. Believe me. I looked. I’m thorough. Stop looking and book it if it’s available. Our group(my fiancé, his mother and I) stayed at the Winfield in August 2013, and our only regret is that it was not available for the entire duration of our stay. If your travel dates are flexible, rearrange them based on availability at the Winfield. I would! THEHOSTS: Sally & Bill are one of the best B&B teams/couples I’ve ever encountered. So often, the B&B is one partner’s dream more so than the other. Not here — Sally and Bill each bring a full and different set of talents to the B&B table. Service is impeccable. It has been honed and perfected through dedication and pride. Their website motto is absolutely true: «more than you’d expect, for less than you’d think.» Accommodations are more than reasonable for the level of service provided. The prices are neither cheap nor expensive, but the value is extraordinary. The HOUSE: The house is more stunning than any online photos suggested. Bill has such a wonderful eye for interior design and décor. Everything is beautiful, and yet approachable/comfortable. The house is always pristine and poised for an Interior Design centerfold shoot at a moment’s notice, and yet you don’t have the feeling that you’re living in someone’s museum. One of the lovely things about this B&B is that it is not an opportunity to display all of the owner’s collectibles. Some B&Bs tend to be décor/knick-knack heavy. Not here. Bill has tasteful restraint :) There’s nothing stylized or pretentious. The Winfield just makes you(almost) wish that you could move in(but then no one else would have the pleasure of it!) You are free to move about the house as you like; the fridge is well-stocked and coffee/refreshments, snacks, glassware and a corkscrew/bottle opener are thoughtfully laid out for your easy access. We staged an impromptu outdoor dinner on the patio one evening with Buehler’s Market deli items, and our ever-thoughtful hosts came rushing out with citronella candles to keep any mosquitoes away. Extra consideration/quiet should be exercised during late evening and early morning hours, but anyone well-mannered should feel no undue restraints on their activities. The free WiFi works very well should you need it. THEGUESTROOMS: We had the two larger accommodations in the house. The beds are very comfortable; the linens exquisite. The turndown truffles will make you look forward to bedtime. The GARDENSUITE is the size of a small apartment. It has a bedroom, fully separate living room, and private bathroom(toilet/sink are even separate from bath.) If you are visiting family or having guests over, it’s lovely to have a living room where you could easily entertain a half-dozen people. The suite also has two entrances; one directly into the bedroom, and another that bypasses the bedroom. The EASTROOM is a lovely master bedroom with two chairs and an end table, and a full private bath. It faces Mockerman’s Corners(the front of the house), and gets lovely morning light. The next time I buy new linens I will be hunting for the dusky lavender sheets of the East Room! We did not see/stay in the CROW’S NEST(another single guest occupied it.) Sally & Bill also have private quarters in the house, but they are as quiet as the proverbial church mice. THEFOOD(and the company): The breakfasts are the best I’ve had at any B&B I’ve stayed at. I deeply regret that I was too exhausted(a sleepless red-eye the night before) to rise in time for the first day’s breakfast. I now know I missed out! One caveat: many of the signature offerings are diet-busters, but they are worth the splurge.(Do it. But you’ll notice that Sally & Bill usually have a lighter fruit/cereal kind of breakfast :) Sally will ask you the night before what time you’d like breakfast, and she’ll be punctual. Sally is such an enthusiastic, entertaining and highly intelligent host. She’s a student of many things — including her guests — and you are part of her continuing education. She has the appetite of a teenager for new information and new ideas, along with the deep convictions of someone older and more savvy — yet with the absolute willingness to challenge those ideas. If you’re game for an exchange of ideas, Sally’s more than happy to engage. She and I agreed on some things, and disagreed on others; but it was an honest, open, engaging and challenging conversation. And if you prefer casual chit-chat or more solitude, don’t fret. I think Sally’s pretty adept at sizing up her guests and their desires. P. S. Sally is more than happy to share her recipes — she’s a generous host in all aspects. Thank you, Sally, for the«Puffy Eggs» recipe :) Best B&B stay ever. I look forward to returning. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Bill and Sally are the nicest hosts! The house is beautiful! My trip was so perfect that I didn’t even want to leave. There is nothing better than grabbing a beer from the shared fridge and sitting in front of a fireplace in your own suite. The breakfasts and the afternoon cheese and fruit plate were fantastic! Bill and Sally have put in so much love and hard work with their B&B and it shows! I can’t wait to go back!
