River Arts District, in all its sketchy(sometimes smelly) glory, encapsulated in a single ramshackle building overlooking the train tracks. I hope that whomever it sold to respects the threadbare, low-rent traditions that allow starving artists to stay there and produce great works. I like gentrification as much as the next person, but y’all better keep your hands off of Phil Mechanic, you yuppy scum!

I have an art studio in this building and the artist here are well established… been here a long time… and the building is FUNKY too. There is even a functioning dark room that does occasional classes that folks might want to check out.

The best building in the RAD! Jolene and Mitch and some of the best people that there are. Must see if you are in the area.

Probably the coolest building in the River Arts District. Great artists on every floor. Make sure to check out the Flood Gallery on the bottom floor — I’ve seem some really great exhibitions there. Afterward head to Wedge Brewery for a beer(and invite me!)

When a friend opened his studio in this place, I thought, «Interesting. Very interesting». Loved the name and the mystery of the place! Located in the River Arts District, It’s like an old service garage or something akin to that. And everywhere you go there are different artists creating their craft. Level after level, corner after corner. Come here to explore because you will most certainly miss something if you don’t scour this building from top to bottom. Take for example, my friend’s gallery. You go in the front door– wend your way to the back, go down a flight of sitars, wend your way back to the front and Viola! Micheal Ebbs Fine Art Photography. You can also see his work on his website . Good luck finding your way back. I kept going the wrong way on the stairway but it just let me find some other great artists in the place! Love the range of art that is contained in here and the fact that these are working studios so you can see people as they paint their pottery or play with clay. And there are other galleries just up the street so be sure to see all that this area has to offer. There is a small parking lot across the street if you drive, and if you take a cab– be sure you know where you are going– this place must be hard to find as my cab driver, in frustration finally just turned the meter off and drove me around until I recognized the place! They are open Tuesday — Saturday 10 — 4 but be sure to check their website before heading out as they also have several special events that you can partake in. So let me end where I began. It’s interesting. Very interesting. And worth the trip out of the central downtown area.

Nice series of galleries here in the river arts district. Several types of art works on display as you turn corners, go up and down stairs, and see artists doing their work. Pretty interesting, just keep an eye out for where you park, lest you want to get towed.

one of the best galleries in The River Arts District — and Asheville, for that matter.
