Wow, so delicious! I have had dosas three times and this was the best. I am not SouthEast Asian and never knew about the dense Indian population in Artesia. The little strip mall Chennai is in is a cultural excursion. I took two business colleagues and we ordered a few extra sides and they were delicious as well. We did not have a waiting problem at all.

I’m sad to give this place only one star because my Chana masala plus poori was the most awesome Chana masala poori plate ever!(Not on the menu, requested it special and they made it for me.) So why the low review? Because lunch took 2 and a half hours, and not because we eat slow. My husband and I are actually very good at inhaling our food in minutes, haha. FIL — ordered an appetizer. It never came. They couldn’t find sugar for my tea. My plate came first. I tried to wait for everyone else at the table to get their food before I began(you know, trying to be polite) until finally(20 minutes later) thought, forget it I’m starving! Finished my food. Still two people(out of 4) in our party never received their food. Finally, one of their dishes arrived. 5 minutes later, they came back to take the 4th order again because they forgot what it was, lol. The manager apologized to us multiple times. She asked my husband in Hindi if there was anything she could get him to make up for the long wait. My husband doesn’t understand Hindi but I responded– a chai please. She told me she wasn’t talking to me in Hindi. Gasp. Lol. Oh man, I still may return for that Chana masala dish. I guess that makes me a masochist. Lol

Very nice staff and manager, constantly making sure everything is great. As for north Indian food, super delicious! As for south Indian food, it was just okay. Definitely have the gobi manchurian.

Very very good South Indian food. We came here after a bad experience at Udupi and were not disappointed. My kiddo had the mini idlis with sambar followed by some masala dosa. Despite the sambar being slightly too spicy for him, he loved it. The rest of the family had the chennai special dosa, rava masala dosa, vegetable Uttapam, and paneer uttapam. Each was made perfectly, with great sambar. Also good tomato chutney and green chutney but unfortunately not the coconut chutney which wasn’t as exciting to any of us except my mom. Stellar personal service by the waitstaff. So overall, yes, this is our new favorite dosa restaurant in the area. Negatives: dirty floors

I can’t wait to try to the masala dosa here. Diamond Bar, ca has nice dosa and the gugurati snacks are great too at other restaurants nearby.

Excellent Chennai Style Dosa Café. One of the best dosa café in the Greater Los Angeles Area. I would give 5 stars to Food Quality, but 4 stars for service and ambiance.

My family and I visited this place twice, and was very happy with the service both times! The first time, we walked into the restaurant around 2:52pm and they still seated us despite the fact that they close at 3pm. My brother and sister had already walked to the restaurant and was sitting eating their dosa! My dad, mom, fiancée & myself walked in afterwards and saw their Buffett and decided to have that! The staff here were so accommodating and brought out more food, and refilled the curries! They kept checking up on us to see if we wanted anything else. Excellent customer service! The second time we visited this place, I told my family that I didn’t want to eat anywhere else but this restaurant! So we came in for lunch and had their Buffett. Everything was very tasty. Again, customer service was great! This is exactly how a restaurant should be ran!

Though it is called Chennai Dosa, north Indian food is much better than south Indian food here. I loved their their paneer matar, chole, naan. 4 stars for their north Indian dishes. Coming to South Indian food taste, I would rate this place a 3. Masala dosa was good. Vada ok. Chutney was ok too. Sambar was not good, it felt mote like dal. Their price is very affordable. consider ordering more than one dish if you are hungry as portion is according to the money you pay. Overall the place is good.

Excellent customer service but same cant be said about the food. Food was a-ok, Gobi Manchurian was almost bitter because it was overcooked/burnt, chef might want to tweak their recipe, just saying! Briyani had good portion. Got the laddus(boondi & rava), they are out of this world, especially rava/sooji laddu! For me(Mrs.Krishna), customer service is more important than the food itself, the whole experience of eating out should be pleasant & breezy, which most Indian restaurants don’t offer. There are few Indian restaurants on Artesia that have excellent homemade food that I crave, but I wouldn’t step in there ever because of their lack of courtesy towards their customers. For now, this place does good with customer service, so just for that — they deserve 4 stars.

Good food. Had no idea what to order but with some help from the waiter we had a feast… Two kinds of dosa, two chicken dishes, naan. Mmm next time I’m going to try something else, so many things looked/smelled wonderful! Definitely want to try the three foot long rolled up dosa! Restaurant is small. Felt cheerfully busy. Nice!

Really enjoyed our little trip to CDC. We tried the podi masala dosa, the paper masala dosa and the medhu vada. The dosas were served with 3 chutneys, tomato, mint and coconut(and also some sambar). Overall, we were quite happy with our selections and will be back for more. Couple of downsides: the restaurant is pretty small, so it can be a bit hard for families with kids. Also, the tea was a disappointment. There’s nothing like a spot of chai with your dosas, but it was a sad affair. Other than that, nice little spot for south Indian food. TIP: I would opt out of the non vegetarian options and go for the dosas as they are really quite good.

I first saw them at the international food festival in Artesia. I ordered the vada at the festival and it was yummy. Yesterday, I decided to try them at the restaurant as most places in Artesia serve bland food. We ordered the Bonda, Andra Kara Masala Dosa, Rava Onion Podi Dosa and the Non Vegetarian Thali. Bonda(2) came with two sauces and it really did not stand out. It looks like a dougnut hole with spiced potato in it. I am comparing this to the ones I ate in India(road side ones are yummy) and there was no wild factor like the ones in India. Andra Kara Masala Dosa was very crispy and spicy on the outside. Plus it was very big and it came with four sauces – coconut chutney, orange chutney, green spicy chutney and sambar. The coconut chutney was done very well unlike most places in Artesia. It tasted fresh. It came with very little potato compared to the size of the dosa. Rava Onion Podi Dosa was delicious. Right amount of onions and the crêpe was not thick. I did not like the fact that they sprinkled the spices(gunpowder) on top of the crape because it felt like the spices were not incorporated in the dosa Non Vegetarian Thali came with Tandoori Chicken(2 pieces), Chicken Curry, Lentil, Rice, Naan and Kheer. The thali was very small however they had the right amount of rice. Nothing really bad and nothing really good stood out about the thali. It was a little bit above average. Some of the naan pieces were done really good and some pieces were very doughy. The food did not feel heavy at all and I did not get food coma. I usually get food coma if I eat buffet or south indian food. The server was very friendly and so was the guy who took our order. This place is one of the best places that serves good south indian food. The place is small but is super clean. Parking is a hassale. I will go back there to try their buffet – $ 8.99 every day of the week. Will be trying it this weekend :):):)

Came by at 3pm(their mid-day closing time) and they still seated us and happily took our order. We ordered samosas, Plain Dosa, Chicken Pakora, and chai. The rest of my family went for the buffet. All the food tasted great and had a «home made» taste to it. The buffet items were delicious and we being South Indian know what good South Indian food should taste like. Everything was prepared the right way and the curries weren’t watery or all mixed up and gross looking like some other Indian buffets. Some other places stop cooking when its close to their closing time but Chennai Dosa Corner refilled the trays in the buffet well past 3pm and made sure their remaining customers had fresh hot food to eat. Their Dosa was a good portion and the Dosa mixture was good. It had the right texture and just the right amount of spice, yogurt, cream, etc. It comes with a variety of chutneys and sambar. Their Sambar was very good. Reminded me of my mothers cooking. Their service was excellent! We were seated right away and offered drinks. Staff kept checking on us every 10−15mins and that helped because each time they check on us I ordered more food from their menu. I figured I might as well try whatever looks good while im there. I will definitely be coming back to Chennai Dosa next time im in the Los Angeles area.

Good service and food is tasty but the quantity is less. I won’t mind paying extra but having to ask for coconut chutney and sambhar is irritating. Udupi is still my favorite!

This was my first time having Dosa and it was definitely interesting. It’s pretty much a paper thing crêpe with the usual indian sauces. Great for snacks but not as an entrée. Parking can potentially be pretty bad though so be careful.

Only in America will you find breakfast items available all day. With that in mind, I wasn’t surprised when the owner offered me «the softest idli» after I entered Chennai Dosa Corner during dinner hours(idli is traditionally eaten during breakfast in South India). This restaurant is the latest to open on the Pioneer strip. The menu is simple, composed of South Indian breakfast items including dosa, uthappam, pongal, idly, vada. There are over a dozen variations of dosa and uthappam, with different batter, fillings, toppings, spices, and method of presentation(either folded into a triangle or a tube shape). Each permutation has its own name. I asked the owner for a dosa recommendation and he offered to prepare a «Andhra Kara Masala Dosai» for me, which is not officially on the menu. This dosa, wrapped into the shape of an equilateral triangle, was filled with lightly spiced potatoes that had creamy melted consistency. Unlike the ordinary«masala dosa» that most people have seen at buffets, the interior of my dosa was spread with with roasted Andhra-style masala powder which is supposed to be one of the hottest types in town. It contained a lot of heat that was barely manageable for me, one notch higher and I would need a lassi. The dosa itself was as thick as a mousepad but at the same time crispy, which is not an easy combination to find. It had the balanced texture that I like, I’ve encountered many mediocre dosas elsewhere which were too thin and brittle, or thick and too chewy. 3 standard chutneys accompanied the dosa: tomato, coconut, and coriander flavor. These chutneys enhanced the taste of the dosa and also alleviated some of the heat, especially the tomato chutney. In addition, a small portion of sambar was provided. It was filled with chopped vegetables which made the lentil stew naturally sweet. Unlike the sambar at Chennai Tiffins, the one at Chennai Dosa House relies less on chili peppers and spices for flavor. On my way out, I noticed that this restaurant still offers a Halal lunch buffet for $ 8.99 and also serves Punjabi dhaba food(so technically the food from Apna Dhaba is still available). I also noticed that a South Indian thali and dum biryani has recently been introduced, so it looks like Chennai Dosa House is expanding their menu to include more options outside of breakfast food. I’m looking forward to try the utthappam and idli next time. This is one of the few places in town that serves milagai podi(gunpowder) as a condiment or topping for south Indian dishes.
