the meat dept has gone downhill ever since joe the butchers been gone. the meat looks old & gross now. when joe was there, it looked very fresh… he was always polite, helpful, knew about great recipes, easy to make, had a great sense of humor… we all miss him!!!

Their customer service is horrible. I ordered a cake for my husbands birthday and it was frozen. We couldn’t feed it to party guests. It was also not decorated as I had asked. The bakery manager is a liar and made up a story when she knew exactly what happened. They shipped the wrong cake that was supposed to go to San Diego with another customer. I decided to give them another chance. This time I printed out two pictures of what I was looking for. The day I picked up the cake the manger again told me I couldn’t really decorate it very well cuz I’m not good at that technique. You don’t tell a customer that after you finished an ugly decorating job. You call the customer before to explain. I will never be going there again. They need a new bakery manager.

Great market, being the only one in the immediate area. It is a bit more expensive than your typical neighborhood store, but I think it should be expected due to the circumstances. They do have deals/specials. I have always found the staff to be really nice and helpful. The hours are also not typical, but all businesses in Arnold operate this way, especially the early closing hours(by grocery store standards).

Very disappointed in this neighborhood monopolized market. Over the years the quality has dwindled and they tun out of things all too often such as basics like chicken and fresh hamburger. I went today and bought cheese, ceaser refrigerated dressing, hummus and frozen blackberry cobbler. It was so obvious the store had lost power and the food was left to melt and sit at lower than healthy temperatures. The cobbler had juice all over the inside of the package. The cheese slices were stuck to each other. The dressing was clumpy and the consistency was wrong. It was spoiled. Whats it going to take? A sickness or a death? Get it together and take some pride in protecting customers instead of worrying about throwing spoiled food out.

They had everything we needed for a successful camping trip up at Calaveras Big Trees up the road and the service was impeccable from all of the many people who served us over the weekend. Very clean. I will definitely be back!

This is my neighborhood grocery store when We go to our cabin and I think it made my property value jump up being only a few minutes away. What a surprise to enjoy the same type of service and quality, that I expect to get on the Peninsula in the Bay Area, but at such a remote location. I was gladly surprised and I feel fortunate to have this place nearby when we go to Arnold.

Living in Bear Valley, this is the closest place to buy groceries, and while it’s a little more expensive than shopping in Sonora, Angels Camp or Carson City, I’m happy to give Big Trees my business! Their meat counter is really impressive. They always have several good sale items, good thick-cut bacon and a great selection of sausage — including bulk sausage(not in the casing), which I use a lot. Seriously their meat counter is one of the best I’ve seen. Their own brand of sauces and seasonings is great as well. Lots of delicious marinades, salad dressings, spice mixes etc. Overall they have a great selection of products and the only thing I haven’t been able to find here is protein powder. Decent selection of all-natural/organic food and lots of non-dairy substitutes, several brands of kombucha and good quality produce. Oh, and a really great wine department featuring lots of locals wines! Yeah you will probably pay a little more here than at Save Mart, but their great selection and the friendliest staff make this place a winner.

While not a full time Arnold resident we own a cabin up here and have shopped at Big Trees Market through many ownerships with good results. Every department is stellar in their selections.(Especially the liquor department) I have always been happy with their product for a small town grocer, until today. Yesterday we spent $ 180 at Big Trees Market buying food for a guest filled weekend. I bought two packages of Bacon, Farmer Johns. I made BLT’s for lunch from the fattiest bacon I have seen in a long time. After lunch I went to exchange the second package of Bacon for a more expensive brand. Cameron, the front end manager, wouldn’t take it back. Their policy is to not accept returns of refrigerated items. No exceptions. The bacon was still cold to the touch. Bottom line is they lost a good consistent customer to Sierra Market in Murphy’s today because they were unwilling to absorb a $ 7.00 loss for good will and customer service. Bad business decision.

Good selection of produce & other misc groceries, good wine selection particularly local wines Fresh seafood selection is below average but that’s really the only negative view, otherwise an above average supermarket, decent prices

This market is really your only option for groceries or any random things you may need if you are camping in Big Trees and forgot to bring something. While this market will have most of what you need, it always seems to be crowded! The aisles in the store are narrow which causes problems if there are a lot of people in one aisle. The real problem here is that the lines are always long and there are usually only a few registers open(at least the times I have been here). This market would be much better if they could get the lines to move faster and also if the aisles were less cluttered.

When they were with IGA they would put out a weekly sale ad online. It’s been around 3 months since the store changed hands and still no weekly ad online. If Sierra Hills Market can post a weekly ad why can’t Big Trees Market do the same.

How weird is it that a market up in the Sierras is BETTER than 90% of what I have available in the Bay Area? They have an amazing meat department, a wine selection that rivals Draegers, and their produce is to die for. Everyone I know from the Bay Area who comes up to Arnold raves about this place. To top it off, the staff(from the guy working in produce who made a great recommendation) to the checkers/baggers — over the top helpful and friendly. My local Safeway should take a hint :)

This place is a really nice grocery store for such a small town. I would even call it a gourmet grocery store, given some of the items they had for sale and the interior of it all. But, the best part about this grocery store is actually the employees. Instead of asking, «Did you find everything okay?» or «How was your day?» as a general small talk question at check-out, they ask you much more thoughtful things, such as, «What is something that has brought you joy today?» «Have you considered that these organic grapes could be nature’s popsicle when frozen?» I seriously love this place(the people).

Terrific little supermarket, offering the usual stuff found in the larger chains, except this place also offers delicious sandwiches, the best rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had, along with plenty of friendly, polite and helpful employees. It’s also fun to see all the little swallow nests in this strip mall, during springtime. Good times in the Sierras.

Extremely rude to locals, worth the trip to another county to do my shopping. Wish I could give the place«no stars»

One star for the deli counter! I ordered a salami sandwich with light mustard no mayo, what do I get? A salami sandwich with no mustard and tons of mayo! So gross. It made the sandwich inedible. To the ladies working the deli counter this day: I know your job sucks and you make minimum wage, but the very least you can do is get a customers order right. Especially when it is on paper in front of you! I also tried a bite of my boyfriends sandwich and the bread was so dry! He ended up throwing most of the bread away and just eating the meat and toppings. In general this is a pretty nice grocery store. It’s too bad the deli has ruined my impression. I will be making my own sandwich next time I’m in town!

You wouldn’t guess that in the middle of almost no where you’d find such a well-stocked grocery store. Beautiful produce — as well as delicious. Lots of selection as well as variety and reasonable prices. The peaches this summer were fabulous. I wanted to make caprese salad, and they had fresh mozzerella. If you want to save, buy their store brand items. And I really couldn’t complain about their alcohol selection. It was wide and varied. They had small brewery beers, wine and spirits. Nice! The ice was cheap! $ 1.75 per 7lb bag. When we got to Yosemite, we paid $ 4.75 for the same ice. The check out people are very nice, too!

This is a great little market, and you’ll find just about anything you could possibly want or need, at a reasonable price. If it’s been a while since you’ve visited Arnold, you will be amazed by what they have to offer here! Highlights: * Fantastic wine section! They have a great selection of local wines, plus some really nice choices from outside the area. Pro Tip: Sometimes their prices on the local wines are better than you’d get at the winery! * Wonderful deli! Seriously. Check out your choices: beautiful prepared salads; tasty cheese; high-quality deli & cured meat. * Freezers stocked with quite a selection of ice cream! Makes sense for summertime visitors. * Lots of candy and pretty good magazine choices.(Definitely falls into the«want» rather than«need» category!) * Happy, friendly checkout folks. In short: long gone are the days when you’d visit Arnold, realize you forgot some particular foodstuff, and drive back to Angels Camp to pick it up(or choose to live without it, and eat potato chips and ice for the duration of your stay). Big Trees is your reasonably priced resource!
