How I heard of this place: Would you be surprised to hear that Chris first told me about this place? Type of cuisine: All things BBQ in a fast-food, food court environment. Warming trays of fried rice(without the soy sauce), mashed potatoes and gravy, BBQ chicken, pork ribs, steamed vegetables, mac ‘n cheese, and your choice of three salads, including cole slaw. Ambiance: Imagine a food court at your local shopping mall. Plastic seating all around the open, fluorescent lit space, fake plants in plastic containers on pillars. You are now at the Ballston Common Mall Food Court, where Texas BBQ Factory calls home. What I ordered: My new manager at work offered by buy us all lunch. She suggested Subway, but I wanted to try something new, since it was going to be free. Having a quick look around, with McDonald’s, Subway, Chick-fil-A, and other such typical places surrounding me, I opted to get something that could feed both my husband and I for dinner, instead. Texas BBQ it was. After sampling the BBQ chicken, I was tempted. But chose the bigger lunch combination of Pork Ribs and two sides($ 8.99): mashed potatoes and gravy, mac ‘n cheese. What I loved: There was more meat on the ribs than I would have expected and the flavor was light. I really liked the creamy(probably from a powder-mix) mashed potatoes and gravy that tasted like something I remember from KFC a couple of decades ago. The mac ‘n cheese creamy, cheesy and abudant. I, personally, would have much preferred the BBQ chicken, but having just returned from Texas, without sampling any BBQ, I figured my husband would have much preferred this option. Why I loved it: It gave us enough food for two, without either feeling like they had to get up hungry. Cost: Average($ 6-$ 9 per combination deal)

My go-to meal at this place is the slim and easy combo which is salad topped with BBQ chicken. The salad is basically lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. Nothing special, but they are fairly generous with the chicken portion. However, the chicken always seems a little fatty to me. All in all, it’s not a bad meal for less than $ 6. They are probably better known for their tasty pulled pork sandwiches which come with a side of coleslaw. Fountain drinks are extra, of course. I’ve experienced much friendlier customer service other places in the food court, but the food handlers are efficient servers, not talkers.

Was expecting a horrible meal here(we actually kind of dared ourselves to go), but it wasn’t half bad. Got the bourbon chicken, some overboiled broccoli, and a cucumber salad. Exceeded expectations, for sure.

Just ate here for the second time and I’ve got to say for $ 8 you can’t go wrong. While we are not talking gourmet food here, the generous chicken combo lunch with two sides: I chose coleslaw and cucumber salad, was simply delicious. The chicken(dark meat) was tender with a sweet honey type sauce. The cucumber salad was fresh and the slaw traditional while not being too mayonnaisy. Along with a small drink, which is really not small, I had a satisfying and filling but not stuffed experience.
