The guy who runs this place is a total clown. The store is a complete mess, very few of the comics are bagged(what is this the stone age?), and there is no AC. Worst of all this guy RIPPEDMEOFF. When I first started selling comics I brought him a stack of comics to see what they were worth. He said they had very little value and he gave me about $ 5 for them. Turns out a few of them were worth $ 20 or more! What kind of person takes advantage of a beginner looking for advice? Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

Hard to give the store stars when it isn’t open(5PM on Monday) and they can’t be bothered to have a voice mail greeting on the phone number.

The four stars are for the service we just received at Magic Dragon comics. At 5:35 we remembered that today was Free Comic book day… A quick search on the web let us know of a store very close to home– Magic Dragon. After a call to confirm they were open until 6 and a quick hop in the car we arrived at the shop… with all of 7 minutes to spare. The free comics were very limited so late in the day, but there were lots of $ 1 boxes to browse in the G rated kid zone. My son discovered single issues of a comic he was interested in, Mega Man, and the shopkeeper explained how the stories were usually set up. He then found an anthology on the shelf that was a great deal and b/c of the day on sale much to my son’s delight. He also found one remaining free copy of the newest Mega Man that was part of free comic book day. Score! We are looking forward to going back and going through all of the $ 1 boxes when we have some more time… These boxes are a veritable treasure hunt for a 10 year old. The shopkeeper advised to call ahead or check Facebook updates as their hours are variable as most workers have other full time jobs… Fair enough warning. Although we didn’t get to fully explore the shop, the helpfulness and kindness of the shopkeeper have put this on our definitely will revisit list.

What an awful little store. I just returned from my 3rd trip there… and the only time I’ve been able to catch it while it was open. I won’t fault them for only being open 5 days out of the week(and never before 2:30pm) — nor will I fault them for not being remotely close to where I live. I am only including this to stress that I went pretty far out of my way to seek this place out — and I was really looking forward to it. I arrived and caught a nod from a guy in the middle of the doorway eating a slice of pizza — this was the only acknowledgement I received. Inside were 3 others, crammed into an armpit of a shop. One was sprawled on top of 3 long boxes of comics, leaning against the rack of new issues — as he finished reading a particular issue he threw it onto a stack of similarly cared for books. I had to ask the guy he was talking to to let me by, only to be ignored by him, and the guy behind the counter. The shop itself is tiny — crammed full of open long boxes, and without air conditioning. It has obviously been that way for some time, as all of the new issues had rippling on the covers — an obvious sign of light water damage from the summer’s humidity. The shop really doesn’t have anything going for it. Any other of the half dozen local comic stores trump it in product quality and slaughter it in customer service. Hub Comics in Somerville has been wonderful; Comically Speaking in Reading seems to be wonderful to everyone that walks through their doors; The Outer Limits in Waltham is always worth the drive.
