I’ve been here once with my family of five. We were looking for a quick brunch on a Sunday and it was super packed. We got seated almost right away but had to split up(my sisters and I at the bar seating area and my parents right behind us at a booth). It took a while to get our food but watching the cooks make the food was kind of interesting… Anyway, I got pancakes with a side of over easy eggs. Oh man, I do love my pancakes and these did not disappoint. So fluffy and buttery I finished my whole stack along with my sisters blueberry pancakes. SODELISH. The service was awesome. Workers there were very friendly and so were the cooks behind the bar! I’d totally go there again especially for the pankekes.

Dang it our family loves diner food. You don’t expect a lot so you are always pleased! This was just alright food and I try not to eat just alright food. The kids meals were huge but you can’t really mess up chicken fingers and fries My tuna sandwich had no mixing a in the tuna just tuna — not good and thanks Kraft plastic wrapped cheese. I means no thanks! Hubby got eggs and bacon and come on easiest meal on the planet Pie…, I love pie! Not their pie! Peach– super old not fresh. Crust soggy and pie filling from a can Key lime pie crust did stay together and it rast d more like thyme then it did line! Totally disappointed! We would not go back or recommend The service was sub par too. Never filled up my water not once never brought the extra stuff we asked for.

Don’t waste your time here. It’s not your typical diner. The place was a mess, the waiters ran around like chickens without heads, and every order at our table was wrong. I would maybe come back if it was the only place open after a night of drinking.

Been seeking a classic diner since moving to DC from NJ. Bob and Edith’s hit the spot with friendly service and tasty foods. Highly recommend the chicken fried steak with white sausage gravy — special #1! Get eatin’!

Classic diner with good classic diner food. Being from NJ, there are diners everywhere and I haven’t seen any where I live in VA now so it was a good find. Gets crowded on weekends so come early or be prepared to wait a little. My party was seated fairly quickly. The French toast and steak and eggs special were excellent. I will definitely be a repeat customer!

Had a great and tasty meal on a Saturday morning before running errands. Just know that it is really busy and keep an eye out on the tables if yours is being bussed. While we were waiting for our table to be cleared another group tried to take our table! So be on alert! I had the classic club sandwich which was really filling. All the veggies in the sandwich were fresh, the bacon was crisp and the bread was nicely toasted. My husband got an omelet which was huge! I got mine with a side of home fries and my husband got his with a side of hash browns. I like how you can choose whatever potato side you want. I like this location because it is closer to DC and when we went on Saturday morning parking really wasn’t that bad. Definitely would come back again when in the mood for a classic Diner meal.

Classic diner, with a great Crystal City location and free parking in the back(you would never know it if this was your first time here). Ate here for a Friday breakfast with a business colleague. I arrived way early and worked using my computer, the server staff kindly brought me coffee. When my colleague arrived, we ordered and talked, the food came immediately. We both had a small simple meal: 2 eggs over medium, his with toast, mine with hash browns. No problem sitting and talking, even thought the tables were pretty full of diners. I was probably there a total of 1.5 hours, half of which was with my colleague. Atmosphere is good, classic diner, simple menu, friendly staff, clean surroundings. I will definitely return for future Crystal City business breakfast meetings.

An excellent breakfast today! Despite being packed on Memorial Day, service was fast. Everyone was really hustling to take orders and get the food out. The servers were friendly and cheerful even though incredibly busy. Wonderful servers, terrific food. And, this time the butter covered all of my toast. Their bacon is excellent, but I wish they had a fruit substitute for the potatoes. Also a great place for late night food. Jennifer and Taylor are especially great servers!

After a long day of sightseeing and walking this fun little diner was a welcome step back in time. The food was great-I had the country fried steak-and the atmosphere laid back and comfortable. The pie looked amazing on the menu but we were too full from dinner. We will have to come back again.

I have to commend this cook for doing whatever it takes to scrub and clean this hot grill, back splash and gutters. The picture doesn’t really give her justice to how clean it was when she got done. Tonight’s choice was pecan waffle and my standard diner test — basted eggs. They know«basted eggs.»

I have eaten here a few times and if you like the charm and simplicity of a diner this is it. I always seem to find parking if I don’t walk. The staff is really pleasant and super quick. The cooks must know what they are doing they always prepare my eggs correctly which I find isn’t always the case. Not everyone knows how to do over medium no matter what they say.

Solid diner food, open 24⁄7. Fast and made to order. What really stood out was the exemplary service from the manager who was incredibly accommodating to our large party that needed a spot for a wheelchair. I saw him continue to do the same for other groups that came in and also was doing rounds checking in with patrons making sure everyone was happy. In fact, our server and others who came by filling coffee were all professional & doing a great job. Service like theirs really makes this great. The restaurant was also very clean considering it’s open 24⁄7!

Food: 2.5 Stars Service: 4.5 Stars Overall: 3.5 stars(rounded up to 4) Let’s start with the food. I come from the Tri State area, where diners are the bomb dot com. The menus are 12 pages long which every item you can imagine, and all the food is delish. I had similar expectations for this diner but to be honest, it’s a watered down dinner. The menu is two pages and has both breakfast and dinner on it. There aren’t many options at all, but you can find all the staples. It mostly plain pancakes and plain eggs with your choice of side for breakfast, although there are a few things you can put in your eggs or pancakes but not a lot. I ordered pancakes and sausage. The pancakes weren’t very good. They were rubbery, and didn’t have a lot of flavor. Aunt Jemima pancakes are better. The sausage was okay, but not much better. They looked like they came frozen in circles and thrown on the grill, no better than what’s served at a fast food breakfast joint. It was disappointing. However, the service rocked. The people there truly work their ass off. The only reason I didn’t give the service 5 stars is because it took 10 – 15 minutes to flag down my waiter for the check, and the place was only half full. But they’re great and deserved a big tip. Overall, this place is OK but I think it’s always good to support a small, family-owned business. If you’re in the area and seeking a breakfast that tastes like what you make at home, stop by. But if you’re seeing an authentic diner experience, head up on to the Tri State area. Nothing beats it!

Service is great, food is simple and always good. I usually go here Sunday mornings when there isn’t many people and get food within 5 – 10 minutes. 5 stars: the bacon here is good… I highly recommend that if you get the hash browns, add onion. Remember that there is parking specific to Bob’s behind the restaurant! Also always check out the specials on the board.

Bob & Edith’s Diner makes no exception to the«General Golden Rule of Diner’s»…it’s your classic diner that’s long on menu items and short on parking! This place is very popular with the locals to the Crystal City/Arlington VA area. I came here on a Saturday morning with some friends. The place was packed. There was a line to get in but seating people went fairly quickly; considering the size of the restaurant. We were only in the line for about 10 minutes, if that. The Manager on duty and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Once inside, the vibe is casual and the place looks somewhat like a throwback to the ’50’s! It’s small but comfortable enough, bright and clean-looking. One thing I can say about this location for sure, is that the service and food is served extremely fast! I ordered a Western Omelette with Corned-Beef Hash & Grit’s! Oh… And, Sausage Patties, Toast & a large OJ. Yes, that was all for me! I am GA country boy that likes to eat and grits must accompany everything! I ordered all of this and in 8 – 10 minutes flat… plates of food was already flying back to my face. Talk about the Mickey«D’s» drive-thru process of Diners… this place was it! I asked for the corned beef hash to be cooked and fried hard… and whomever was the cook on duty did not disappoint. Most places screw that request up every time. Everything was cooked and prepared well… and most importantly tasty and served hot. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food too. The portions were more than enough food. I can honestly say we all left out of there full and with a pot-belly! I will add a quick note of mention that although the food was good… it was a bit more expensive, compared to other Diner spots I frequent around the DMV. My bill came out to roughly $ 16 bones… for only standard breakfast food items?! Looking at that kind of check… made me extra glad that I cleaned my plates bone-dry and did not waste a crumb. In all, this is a great place for breakfast or a good meal when you need to eat and go. No complaints with my visit and experience. If your in the need for a Diner spot that serve a good, helping-hand of old-fashioned breakfast & comfort food… Bob & Edith’s is your place.

We ordered the steak omelet and Bob’s delight which is a rib eye and eggs. The food was great but the service wasn’t. Our server was nice but we didn’t get our toast and bagel until after we finished our meal(we had to ask her for them twice). I also asked for a Diet Coke refill and she smiled and handed my cup to another server who just got rid of the cup and I never got my refill. Our overall experience was ok. We will be back for the food

Friday morning… New Year’s Day. I needed breakfast STAT — Bob and Ediths is a quick walk from my place and it was open, which were my primary criteria. Being from NJ, I have pretty high diner standards. This place was just fine. Not quite like home but not terrible either. The service was fairly quick and relatively attentive. There seemed to be a lot of people working tables, running food, coffee, taking orders, busing tables or doing any combination thereof… it was hard to tell who to ask things of but whatever. I just asked anyone when I needed a refill on my coffee. Let me repeat that — I had to ask for a refill on my coffee *on more than one occasion*. Uh, not OK. Let me get to the food. Chicken fingers looked pretty standard(that was my boyfriend’s order). My omelette and corned beef hash were pretty good. Hash browns, however, were not good — under-cooked, even when I requested well done, with a weird flavor to them. Not sure how I feel about this place. It’s in the area so I will probably be back but given other options, I would probably take them.

A group of colleagues and I found ourselves at Bob and Edith’s after a holiday party. I am not one to frequent diners, but they were open in the early morning and seemed to be a good nearby option. The four of us ordered various burgers and sandwiches. I had a cheeseburger that, despite the 3am time, came with very fresh lettuce and tomato. The fries were also solid – not amazing, go-out-of-your-way-for-them fries, but better than average. The server asked how we would like our burgers cooked, which I have to say is a first for a diner in my experience(and a good sign). I had mine medium well and was pleased to see that it was perfectly cooked as juicy without being greasy. The hash browns were a little plain but they did cook them to the point of being crispy but not burnt, as per my request. Our server, Luis, was friendly and fast. The food came quickly and we were able to get in and out with no problem. Also, the total for the four of us was $ 36 including tax, which is ridiculously affordable. The décor is sort of fun because it reminds you of an old school diner. I’m not often in that part of Arlington and wouldn’t go out of my way to come here for the food for lunch/dinner, but definitely wouldn’t be against visiting again.

When they are open, which is not 24⁄7 but more like Friday– Sunday, they are great. Wonderful servers, great food. If only they would spread butter across all the toast. Still, a great place for late night food on Friday or Saturday night. Taylor is an outstanding server!

After a long awaited time, I have finally been able to try this diner that has a legendary following almost locals. Although I did come to the Pentagon City location(the original is in Arlington near Columbia Pike), I can’t help but come away severely disappointed. I ordered the corn beef hash. The food took forever to come out. The toast came out slightly cold. You can’t split checks. The food is way too expensive for the quantity of food that comes out. Even the so called legendary grits were just whatever… I couldn’t even imagine enjoying this food at 3 am… and everything tastes good at 3 am. My friend got the country fried steak and eggs with the sausage gravy and it was a lot more quantity. It also tasted a bit better, but the batter wasn’t fried enough and it tasted floury. There aren’t a lot of decent 24⁄7 places in D.C., but I think I’d rather go to a Denny’s than come back to B&E.

Place looks like an old diner off Route 66. This place is great. It’s extremely affordable, great food, and open 24 hours. Great place for breakfast, brunch, and/or lunch. It was also quick, but the taste doesn’t suffer with speed. I got the French Toast special that day. Two pieces of french toast, eggs, and bacon. The bacon was some of the best I’ve had. It was so crispy, but not overcooked. It’s a very thin line, but when done correctly, it’s amazing. The only thing is there isn’t any hostess or seating, when I table opens you have to go for it. I don’t know if this is the norm, but that’s how it went while we were there. It also gets very crowded so get there early.

I like a good diner. Thanks to my fellow Unilocaler(especially Mary Kate M.) for reviewing this place. I was hungry mid-day and on my way to the grocery store. I drove past Bob & Edith’s and decided to stop in. I was seated right away, ordered two scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and 2 pancakes. It came with my choice of grits and toast. I was stuffed by the end of my brunch! The eggs were cooked well — not too hard and not runny. The turkey sausage was hearty. I love pancakes and these passed muster. They were fluffy and there was an option of regular and sugar free syrup on the table. The service was good. My water was refilled constantly and the waiter came by several times(but not in an obnoxious way) to ask if everything was alright. The menu was quite large and I will come back again.

My friend end I decided to come here on the last day of our stay in DC because it was pretty close to our hotel. We arrived on a early’ish Sunday morning and parking was easy to find. I didn’t know they had parking behind their building so we parked out front across the street. The chrome finish building really makes the place pop. I was expecting a bigger place but we found a place to sit quite easily. Let me warn others though, DONOT sit in the booth in the far right corner when you walk in the door. That is where we ended up sitting and the A/C blows down directly on you. I thought I could manage it but it cold super cold. I dealt with it but it’s definitely something that needs to be addressed. We both got omelets with hash and shared a pecan waffle. The food was overall decent but the cold a/c really«chilled» our food for us. I don’t know if it totally chilled our waffle or it was served late to us, but the waffle wasn’t warm at all and that sort of killed it. It was almost kind of stale. It’s an okay place either pretty standard breakfast. It doesn’t have anything to make a second visit but it gets the job done.

My parents and I came here for a weekday lunch around 8:30am; by 9:30am, the place was definitely getting full and loud. The menu is simple, but there are lots of options within each category, like eggs +(anything) and omelettes. The corned beef hash was solid, and the hash browns are perfectly browned without being too greasy. The coffee was ok for a diner. Not great for parties bigger than 5 due to the arrangement of the tables. Free parking in the back. It was a nice diner experience overall.

Luigi is an awesome waiter! He suggested that I get the double bacon cheeseburger with the egg. It was delicious and juicy! More than I expected from a diner burger! The French fries were a little bland, the needed a dash of salt. I got a coffee with hot chocolate it was sooo yum and cozy.

TL;DR Clean, efficient diner. Good food but limited selections. My family wanted diner style breakfast and decided to give this place a try since we were in the neighborhood. There is free parking at the rear of the restaurant but directions on how to get to it were unclear. We had to stop and go into the restaurant to ask the staff. Once we’re inside, we noticed the slightly odd booth seatings. They are a bit wider than for a single person to sit on each side but also a tight fit for seating two persons. They also have tables with chairs if you have a larger party. Not allowed to substitute anything on the menu unless stated. Staff is friendly and efficient through out.

My bf and I are nuts about coming here for breakfast, and it’s not because of the food! The service here is fan-freakin-tastic. Genuinely charming servers. This place can get pretty packed on a weekend morning, so make sure to come early enough. We’ve never had to wait too long though, and there is convenient parking in the back! The menu is filled with all your classic diner dishes, but make sure to check out their specials board as well. The food is super affordable, and we have always left feeling satisfied. They’re also known for the pies, so be sure to try one of many choices! I already miss this place!

If you are into a 24 hour diner, serving anytime breakfast, this is your place. What a great way, to start our day. My over easy eggs were cooked to perfection. My hash browns were seasoned with salt, pepper and onion. Deliciously delightful. On top of all of this, a diner in Virginia that knows how to cook scrapple. Unfortunately they lose a star because the grits were too thick. Great service even though they had a packed house. Great neighborhood diner! Come and get it!

Close your eyes, listen to the sound of clinking dishes, happy voices and the bell in the background letting the waitstaff know an order is ready. Open your eyes see the thick coffee mug filled with coffee and the waitstaff eagerly supplying refills of liquid gold. Yes you are in a Diner, this is Bob & Edith’s. Good reasonably priced comfort food, menu with items that bring back happy memories of childhood, homefries with a nice crust from the flattop, wonderful biscuits covered with sausage gravy, chicken fried steak with gravy and the menu goes on and on. Bob & Edith’s new location is bright shiny and spotless. After a few more years of being open 24 – 7, it will be what makes our Nation great… the perfect Classic American Diner.

This place is a legit diner at legit diner prices so no crazy expensive DC fare here. They have a breakfast menu and a lunch/dinner one but they’re open 24⁄7 and I’m pretty sure you can get anything anytime. I had the chicken fried steak which was very tasty and not too greasy or heavily breaded, it went well with the sausage gravy. The hash browns were top notch too and were the thin type like they have at Waffle House. The apple sauce was chunkier than most places and different than the kind you usually get out of a jar. It also came with a huge dinner roll. This isn’t DC «foodie» stuff or health food, it’s just tasty diner fare. This place is just what you’d want and expect in a diner, cheap and tasty food, fast service, and always open. I’ll be back here to also try breakfast or maybe some pie.

A return to Diner glory, Bob and Edith’s brings back the 24 hour diner to Crystal City’s 23rd Street. I was a huge fan of the previous diner that occupied this location, Cesar’s, and was completely heartbroken when they closed a few months ago. While I still prefer the large diverse Greek-themed menu of Cesar’s, Bob and Edith’s is a more than acceptable substitute. Told to sit anywhere we like, my girlfriend and I settle on a two-person table against the far wall. Our server was very friendly and attentive(it helped the place was empty at 6PM on a Friday). We ordered the Club Sandwich($ 7.69) and the BBQ Pulled Pork($ 5.49), with a side order of a Cesar Salad($ 3.89) and fries($ 2.39). It wasn’t bad — the food is what you expect from a diner. The club sandwich was excellent — fresh ingredients, prepared fresh, and large serving size. The BBQ Pork is closer to a sloppy joe than pulled pork, and the coleslaw needs a little pepper. Overall, Bob and Edith’s Diner fills the large diner –sized hole on 23rd street, and it is a much welcomed addition to the neighborhood.
