Yen yen, if you’re going to charge $ 15 and only serve a large size Mongolian beef… At least fill it more than half way! Great food… Just wish I had a bit more!

Nothing much bad to say about Yen Yen. Best Chinese food in town. Love the egg rolls! They are more expensive than thier competition. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Watch for the half off second entrée coupon that shows up every so often in the mail.

I’m born and raised right here… and have been eating at Yen Yen my entire life. UNTILTODAY. The food quality and service have both been going downhill for sometime, now. But today… made my decision to NEVER go back. Our food was just okay… but our service sucked! We were yelled at, mocked, and spoken to(and about) in a ridiculously RUDE manner, BYTHEOWNER. Then… as if this all wasn’t enough, we were told we needed to give them our table for another party. We had just spent over $ 200 for a party of 6… and asked to leave after an hour, so they could give someone else our table? Despicable. We will NEVERGOBACK. EVER.

Been getting carry out for about 4 years now(never ate in). Food is always ready and hot. Owner/front counter guy is always nice. Love their chop suey and garlic shrimp!

Okay so I’ve been here for carryout quite a few times and overall I think it’s not bad but nothing amazing. I personally did not like their other location in Buffalo Grove but my friend swore that this one is much better in terms of quality so I gave it a shot. I ordered over the phone as the prices are decent and compatible to other Chinese places in the area. We got the shrimp fried rice, a few egg rolls, Mongolian beef, sweet sesame chicken and some other things I can’t remember at the moment. I do know that you get a better deal coming here for lunch as its like $ 7 and a pretty big portion so if you’re hungry and want a good deal, that’s the time to go. For carryout however I did enjoy their egg rolls as I’m picky on those and they do a pretty good job and I also love their shrimp fried rice as its not overly greasy and the shrimp are small which compliment all the little veggies in the fried rice. Everything else we had in terms of the meat dishes were oh so meh and I wouldn’t get them again and just stick to what I like. The people working here seem to be friendly so they get a star for that. Here’s what I didn’t like and was a little put off by is when I placed the order and was about to hang up I said«you guys don’t cook with msg as i get a bad reaction to it» the lady says«only if you request us not too» that put me off as I assumed that most places try not to cook with msg so every single time I order and call I have to make sure I stress NOMSG each time which I hope they truly honor. Personally they should start making everything without it in my opinion. I’ll be back sometime as its my once or twice a year craving as I usually prefer a more Americanized Chinese place like pf changs. But if you’re in the area it’s worth a shot.

I’ve lived a mile away from this restaurant for 6 years and never stopped in. Last night a gal pal and I decided to give it a whirl rather than go to the restaurant kiddy-corner from it. What a delight! Started out with a Hawaiian Mai Tai(not on the menu – ask for a description if you’re into these) and then she had the Steak Kow and I had the Tow Goo Steak. So tender! So delicious! Great staff all the way around from the hostess to the waiter to the bus boy who efficiently packed up our main dishes. I have no idea why I waited so long, but we will be back.

They have great egg rolls with peanut butter. Ordered the Mongolian Beef a little spicy and they must have used a whole bottle of red pepper flakes. We couldn’t even eat the beef it had so many flakes on each piece.

The food was horribly ridiculously overpriced for the amount. My husband brought home a noodle dish, a small cashew chicken and a egg drop soup. It cost him $ 30 and we barely felt like we are anything. My husband was shocked when I pulled out the cashew chicken and thought it was the rice container. No noodle dish should cost more than $ 11-$ 12 unless there are giant lobster pieces in it. It was salty, soggy, and a big lumpy mess. Not worth however expensive it was. The egg drop soup was whatever. Salty as well. It was not the traditional cornstarch slurry so that was okay. The cashew chicken was supposedly okay but the amount that was given was so small that we couldn’t properly taste it before it was gone. I am giving it 2 stars only because they give you golden dragon fortune cookies. Those are my favorite. We will not be going back here. The food was slightly better than terrible, but for those prices, they should have at least given us some damn chopsticks and napkins.

Been coming here since the 90’s. Best egg rolls! Cantonese style chow mein! Pork fried rice! Won ton soup! Dry beef chow fun! Shrimp with lobster sauce! Tomato beef lo mein! Chop suey! Their homemade chili paste and sweet and sour sauce are drool worthy. I like their homemade sweet and sour better than the hot sweet and sour that comes with sweet and sour chicken… but I don’t order that anymore, that’s amateur status from when I was kid… Danny is the best waiter around!

Was always are«go to» Chinese restaurant, but will probably be the last for awhile. Best things on this menu used to be eggs rolls, won ton soup, pot stickers, and lobster fried rice(not on menu, but just ask for it). Lately, the eggs rolls have been served«under cooked» and the bbq spare ribs either over done or not done enough. The overall quality of the dishes has dropped off, with many dishes tasting bland and getting«pricey». Service has also fallen, seems(and they are the same servers) just don’t have it altogether lately… especially when they have to stop and make drinks, plus try to handle food orders… lots of «kids» at the front for carry out orders, but they are obviously to young to make drinks… maybe the owners ought to spend more time in the restaurant than going to China and Florida.

The food is decent, but the man who takes the orders is so RUDE(I think he is the owner). He is very surly when he is speaking to you then yells«That all?» *click*. The only reason I eat here is because my coworkers like this place and it is reasonably priced. We often draw straws to see who’s gonna call it in. Ever seen the Seinfeld«soup nazi» episode… this is him in real life.

This is pretty disappointing Chinese food. We got a Kung pao chicken that tasted like some kind of southern chicken in gravy. it was not even remotely spicy. So much so that we gave it to our young daughter. Everything we ordered was completely bland. It’s also moderately expensive for the quality. There are several other places in the area that are better and less money.

This is one of my favorite Chinese places. They have a good selection, ranging from traditional Chinese food to more American favorites. It’s a bit pricey but the portions are always large enough for at least 2 meals. Service was so — so last time I was there, but the food made up for it.

After growing up in the area, I had never really gone to Yen Yen, so I didn’t have any predisposed notions over what to expect. I was surprised to see how mediocre the reviews were, especially for a place that had been there for decades. I went in on a Sunday night. Ordered pot stickers and kung pao beef. Pot stickers were bigger than average and tasted great. The traditional side of soy based sauce was absent but they brought vinegar and chile paste, which, when combined, was pretty great. Kung pao beef was a huge portion, and was very tasty, not as spicy as I prefer, but still a good version. Favorite thing for me was my service. Waiter was super friendly and he came by often enough but not too much. Only reason I didn’t go 5 stars were: two girls«working» at the front barely looked up from their phones to help me when I walked in(super unprofessional), and the food was a bit pricey. I will certainly be back for more.

I came here with a friend who recommended the restaurant. It was just okay. It was not the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. I think it was very Americanized. We ordered pot stickers, shrimp and scallops, and a noodle dish. The pot stickers had a funny scent. I know this is going to sound really bizarre but there are certain Chinese dishes that have a baby powder scent/taste that I really don’t like. It’s usually in duck dishes. Well, the pot stickers had this scent and I didn’t like it. The shrimp and scallop were deep fried but they weren’t airy and crisp. The noodle dish was just alright. The service was good though and it seemed like a happening place to be on a Friday night. The place was packed.

I’ve been going here off and on over the past 12 years or so. The food is usually good, but not outstanding. I typically take my orders home and the carry out packaging is done very well. When I have eaten at the restaurant, the service has been acceptable. One thing I do like is their potstickers. Though a little pricy, they’re a little thicker that most potstickers and taste good whether fried or steamed. Mongolian beef is OK — often no crispy noodles with it though — a bummer.

Meh. New to the area and was craving a Chinese restaurant, my only mistake was not checking Unilocal! The service was very good! Unfortunately the food was below GFS quality! Eeek egg roll was dry and the hot sour soup tasted off. The entrée arrived was over cooked. You can find better in the area folks, search Unilocal and avoid the mistake…
