John’s Transmissions & Engine Performance

John is a knowledgeable, experienced, and, most importantly of all, fair mechanic. He repaired the transmission on truck without rebuilding it, which several other mechanics have told me was the only solution to my problem.
John himself is a nice guy. In my experience he’s honest and responsible and dependable. He does excellent work. Aransas Pass is lucky to have a guy with as much skill who is also so even in his dealings.
My truck started having trouble on the way back to Austin from seeing my parents in Portland. I could still get the truck to move on lower gears, so I drove it back to Portland and looked online for transmission service. John’s shop had good reviews and wasn’t too far, or over the bridge, so I decided to call and leave a message on his machine, since it was Sunday afternoon.
To my surprise John answered the phone and after a short conversation about my truck, he was able to give me a pretty insightful explanation about what was going on with my truck’s computer and why it wouldn’t go into a higher gear. He told me to bring it in the next morning.
At the shop he explained the how the diagnosis would be carried out and told us he’d have an estimate by the end of the day. He kept his word and recommended a repair to my transmission that was much less pricey than the total rebuild other mechanics had been telling me I needed for the last 6 or so months. The repairs were done in a reasonable amount of time, and the truck runs better than it has in years.
If you live in San Patricio County and you have a transmission problem, I’d recommend at least taking it past John’s shop and let him take a look at it. He really knows his trade well, and in my opinion he’s very honest.
