I’ve been coming to CrossFit Aptos for a year, and I love it. Things that stand out most: 1. The community. The people at this box are really friendly, authentic, uplifting, and fun. The culture is definitely one of inclusiveness, positivity, and of challenging(but not injuring) yourself. You imagine some gyms to be home to the sort of people who like to post daily unclad photos of themselves flexing their muscles on Instagram. Crossfit Aptos is not that gym. 2. The coaches. They’re all really great, supportive people, and beyond that, they’re super knowledgeable not just of CrossFit, but of the human skeletal and muscular system. A number of them have backgrounds in health related fields such as physical therapy and nursing. They take safety seriously, but at the same time, they push you to give your best effort. 3. Programming. It’s really good. You could go every single day of the week because the pros here know how to program such that you’re getting appropriate rest and recovery for certain muscle groups, etc. And it’s fun, to boot.

I’m six weeks into this CrossFit thing. I been invited by friends over and over and I’ve always put it off. I had a hundred and one excuses for not doing it: 1. I’ve never been a gym person. 2. I’ve never lifted weights. 3. I’m more of an outdoor exerciser: bicycling, swimming, hiking, jogging, long walks on the beach. 4. I’m injured. 5. You get the idea. Do yourself a favor and try it. This gym offers a great two-week jntro class called Foundations. You’ll learn the basic lifting movements of Olympic lifting/CrossFit using PVC pipes. You’ll be able to watch the others do the Work Out of the Day(WOD). I’ve been very impressed with the knowledgable coaches and personalized attention I get, even in the bigger sizes classes. At first I modified nearly every movement based on my lack of skill, pain, poor coordination and inflexibility. I’ve never been teased or discouraged. Quite the opposite! The people who work out here are genuinely nice and cheer me on. Even when I’m the last person working out! I’m not here to impress anyone. I’m here to move better. And to get stronger everyday. Had a great work out! Friendly knowledgable coaches guided us through a warm-up that also provided instruction for the workout. The workout was challenging yet scaled for all abilities. My teenage daughter and I performed the same work out together. New gym is clean with up-to-date equipment. Can’t rave about the coaching more! Seminar level staffing who are very knowledgeable and supportive in their guidance. They have teen classes and childcare and upcoming classes for 60+ as well. What a gem for the Aptos area!
