It’s easy to overlook Surcee’s in the middle of the other, more visual storefronts on Salem street. But don’t. Surcee’s has the friendliest owner/employee. As I browsed, I was told a little something about each item I looked at – who made it, what it was made with or from, etc. Normally, that type of attentiveness can be creepy and annoying, but here it was well done. It was more of a sharing of opinions than a hard-sell. Surcee’s, for being a small shop, carries just enough to keep me looking. Every shelf carries something different. They have jewelry, natural soaps(one is a line made especially for Surcee’s), lotions, a few scarves(some made locally), handbags, and art by area artists. I didn’t see anything I considered too mainstream. I’ll have to keep this place in mind when I need an un-ordinary gift.
