I had a spray tan there Friday before Memorial day.
Took less than 5 minutes. Felt like hot air blowing without any product in dispenser. I requested highest level of color application. No visible results. This was done by hand not an automated booth which results should be better. Don’t waste your 40 $.

Mediocre at best.

I think my frustration grew as time went by after my color and haircut at the salon. I came for roots touch-​up and a trim. The haircut didn’t get scheduled somehow, though it was discussed on the phone, so it had to be squeezed in. The haircut did nothing for my short hair. It went limper and lost the form it had before. But the color is what really got me. I needed root touch-​up to cover greys, dark hair and match the rest of my highlighted hair. The greys were covered, but the roots stayed dark, the highlights got even lighter and yellow and I looked like a high contrast version of myself. Regrettably, the stylist didn’t have a vision of what I’d look like. The knockout came with the price. Total: $ 252! I felt RIPPED OFF. My hair certainly didn’t show much for it. I was given a $ 13 discount for coming in on Tuesday as a 20% off special on «any hair service» (as the website says). A simple calculation tells me the discount should have been $ 50. False advertisement.
On another note… my husband waited in the lobby for 2 and some hours. No one offered him water, tea or anything, with the salon being practically empty. I might not expect it from other salons, but I would from this one.
Lastly, parking is available only in the nearby garage. So, add that to the total cost.
Needless to say, I will never be back again and would not recommend this salon to anyone. Shame of a salon.

Varuna is one of the best hair salons I have been too. I used to only color my own hair with stupid box dye but I will never do that again and will only go to Varuna for my hair coloring. Chris did my partial highlights and have never a blow out. The color came out amazinggg and my hair felt out of this world! The ending result is well worth the price! I will only go to Varuna and recommend them to everyone I know.

I went for the first time today for a massage. Something happened with their scheduling and my appointment got deleted. To compensate they gave me a complementary 30 min massage and a gift card for a 60 min massage. It was a great massage. If I could have given them more stars I would have.

This is THE PLACE to get the best women’s cut and style in Annapolis! I’ve tried other salons of equal caliber, like Hudson & Fouquet down the street, but for some reason, I always get a better haircut and service at Varuna Salon & Spa.
Highly recommended for wavy and straight hair, as they advocate gentle and natural Aveda products. Liz and Amanda have always done a great job with my hair. I make sure to bring two style options, and discuss with my stylists the best choice for my face and lifestyle. Normally, they sway me into keeping my hair long (er), which gives me the confidence that these stylists are reasonably focused on what will fit you and will be easier to maintain in the long term. They are not just the «cutting» type… I mean, we’ve all met those stylists… You know, they sport the iconic Kate+8 platinum-​streaked mullet, and they take their personal hair frustrations on those of us with conservative hairstyles or long hair. They come at you with their shears and just start chopping away, as your 2″ trim turns into Halle Berry’s pixie nightmare. Whew, I’m getting carried away!
Bottom line is that Varuna is the best in Annapolis! The results are always worth every single penny!

I get massages about once a month and I am disappointed more often than not. Today I had the best massage of my life by Valerie at Varuna. She really listened to me and customized my massage for my needs. I wish I could make it to Annapolis more often. I would be a regular there.

Continue to get lost in the Park Place parking lot, but it’s worth the frustration, as the stylists at Varuna are always superb. Now go to Christina regularly for color and cut, and always leave smiling, and with zero interest to put on a hat.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Calming Embrace spa package here. From the massage, to the facial, hair, and makeup, everyone i came in contact with was friendly and professional. I went in stressed and came out feeling like a new person! The spa itself was very clean, beautifully decorated, and inviting. I definitely plan on going back here!

I have been visiting this salon for over 5 years and I love it so much I commute 30 minutes to an hour for their services. I see Amanda for all my hair needs, and she does a great job with haircuts. She is very intuitive on what styles and products will look good on me and what won’t. I don’t let anyone else touch my hair.
The spa is great as well, and what my Mom refers to as «her happy place». It’s like another world of calm. I haven’t been in a while, but I used to go regularly for facials and massages from Samantha. She is incredibly talented with skin– she knows the breakdown of all the Aveda products and how they affect different skin types. During the time I saw her, she healed a particular bout of acne I was suffering from. Those services were worth every cent.
Very happy customer, only wish I could go more often.

Having not found my «salon» yet, I think this is the best bet.
I was greeted happily at the door even after being 5 min late due to being lost and offered water or tea. I was given Hannah to cut my hair. She was sweet, kind and kept the convo going throughout the whole time. No awkward silences; unless that’s what you’re in to. She asked me what I was looking for and did a great job giving me what I imagined, nothing to difficult. She actually cut my bangs for me while my hair was dry, which I really appreciated bc too many people cut it while its wet and they end up too short.
Afterwards, I was given my complimentary makeup touch up which made me feel pretty and off I went.
As for price, the reason I went was due to a gift card and I chose Monday due to the special for 20% off new customers and so it was fairly inexpensive for me this time. I will definitely be going back regardless of price though, I was even given a card for 10% off color next time! More incentives! Yay!
I also dig the products, nice smelling and doesn’t feel like I have anything on/​in my hair.

A very relaxing salon. All the extras: herbal tea, warm neck wrap, and several complimentary options, makes your hair appointment a mini spa experience .
Roni and Angela are both great stylist .
After moving here six months ago and searching out a new salon — I was happy to find this gem of a salon .
The only suggestions I would give them is to play more relaxing music to go with the whole experience.

Did a search for Aveda and the top beauty salons in Annapolis, and I was lucky enough to have Angela do a highlighting and cut. She listened to what I said, looked at the pictures, and did a great job! I will be back, and was happy to have found a place that the Marriott shuttle could take me to while traveling on business.

Came for a massage and facial package and had a great experience. I really appreciated the blow dry and make up touch up. Top notch and professional staff.

Excellent salon and spa in the Annapolis area. I’ve had several services at Varuna: color, haircut, manicure/​pedicure, facial, and waxing services — and have not yet been disappointed.

Christina gave me a trim and was so amazing. I’m a guy with longish hair and she not only gave me a great trim but some great advice on brushing and hair care in general (use a large bristled paddle brush — no combs on dry hair!) she was warm hearted and kind and really knows hair. I would recommend her to anyone. I went in not sure what I wanted exactly and a bit nervous (mainly because I don’t know anyone there) and came out feeling super happy. She gave me advice based on the two options we narrowed it down to and I was able to decide based on her assessment of how my hair would respond to each. If you’re not sure — ask for her. You won’t be sorry.

I went here with a friend to get a Brazilian bikini wax. It was my first time and needless to say I was pretty nervous. My sister has been to this spa several times and had recommended Donna. At first I was afraid that the whole experience was going to be uncomfortable and awkward but it wasn’t at all! She made the experience very bearable and pleasant. I will definitely be going back to her.
As far as the salon itself, everyone was very accommodating friendly. I definitely want to try their other services someday.

I got a Stress-​fix massage here from Aimee. It is aptly named. Aimee is really gentle and kind as well. She told me that she does facials; maybe the next time I visit I can get one of those too!
The check-​in staff was friendly; they gave me delicious tea before and after the massage.
The subtracted point is just that I was able to hear people move in and out of the adjacent rooms. I think the frames of the doors are all connected and flimsy, so you can hear a lot of opening and closing — but I think it was really just during the beginning and end of the massage as people were coming and going.

This place was more expensive than what I am use to but then again I was not the one getting my haircut. It was my little treats for my wife, anything to make her feel better and feel beautiful. The people didn’t really talk very much, however Amanda was an amazing stylist. I give the store 4 stars, but I gave Amanda 5 stars

Going to this salon is like going on a mini-​vacation. It smells wonderful inside and the décor makes you feel so peaceful. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the front desk offered me tea, water, or a hot neck wrap! I definitely took the hot neck wrap. I had a cut and color with Heather and I will simply say that I have found my new go-​to stylist. She really worked with me about what I was looking for and helped me figure it out before starting. She gave me exactly what I was hoping for and it looks gorgeous. The other staff members are great, too, including the management! They were asking me how I was doing while I was there and really cared about whether I was enjoying my time. I’ve honestly never had such a great experience at a salon!!! Please, please, please go here! You will love it!
The other review about not using a GPS is right — it will take you to the wrong place. Just go to the Westin hotel on West Street and park there and ask them how to get to Varuna. That’s what I did and I found it just fine!

Do not try to use your GPS to get here. Instead just look on your map. Park Place/​Westin is at the traffic circle with Spa Rd, West St and Taylor. Drive in and you’ll see Varuna Aveda Salon right there. Try to park on the street of they have a garage. Never drove in here, really nice.
Didn’t even realize this was an Aveda Salon. They’re all about going green and using natural products. Got this massage for a present and am so grateful. Nicest Aveda salon I’ve ever seen. Warm neck pillows upon arriving and the hair salon is pretty big. I went in for the Chakra Balancing Massage. $ 100 for 60 min is pricey. Natalie was awesome and I wanted to stay longer but for the price and with this whole gov’t shutdown mess, I shouldn’t be spending any more money. My friend is the queen of chakra balancing but Natalie was a good second.
I like the pre-​massage foot soak idea but don’t care too much for Aveda’s water in a bowl idea. I feel bad for the people who have to kneel on the ground in this awkward position. I got the better end of the deal for sure.
Best part about Varuna? They don’t advertise in magazines or tourist pamphlets. Instead they volunteer in the community and push out good energy and love. Good energy and customers come back around full circle.
