Chicken as good as Bonchon!!! I thought Bonchon and I would be always be exclusive: the one I turn to when I need fried fowl in my diet. I thought Bonchon and I would grow old together, just the two of us, hanging out in our sunset years. Then a friend introduced me to BBQ Chicken & Beer in Annandale… and I’ll be honest. I’m thinking polygamy ain’t just some show on TV. There is room for big love in my heart. First off, BC and BBQ C&B are not the same: the cooking styles are different, the flavouring is different. We ordered: 1) Waffle fries with cheese: waffle fries are always delicious, but these were fried so beautifully that even when they got cold, the fries were still so crisp. Don’t bother with the cheese: it’s not nacho cheese sauce that stays goopy for hours. So unless you can devour piping hot fries in 5 minutes flat while the cheese is still melty, go with the plain. 2) Fried Chicken Gizzard. GETTHIS. I’m not kidding around, this stuff is awesome! The gizzards were cooked perfectly, were fresh(no funky gaminess), and the heat from the chili sauce really sneaks up on you. 3) Olive Chicken(half): This was good… but my friend said that the olive chicken from the Centerville branch was much better. The batter reminds me of american style chicken batter, thicker, crisper, and definitely crunchy. The meat was gorgeous though: moist and flavourful. 4)(Fuck yea) Crispy chicken wings: GETTHISTOO. I think they use rice flour to dredge the chicken so it’s crisp, but very, very light. Seasoning is very simple: salt, pepper, but it’s so satisfying. This is my current favorite of the bunch. 5) Sweet Spicy wings: This is also VERY good, and I’d order it again. Take the crispy chicken wings, then baste on this sweet/salty/spicy/spice-y(I could swear this sauce has anise and 5 spice powder and cinnamon) sauce that is just hot enough to make your tongue tingle, but is savory enough that you will ignore the slight burn to eat… all 8 pieces in the order. 6) BB Rice Bowl(Kimchee fried rice with teriyaki): I didn’t taste this, but friend who ordered it said it was VERY good. A+, would order again. 7) Fried dumplings(10 pieces); Handmade in the shop and you can tell: lots of delicious filling(pork, veggies, noodles), the wrapper was thin and chewy, and then DEEPFRYTHOSEFUCKERS until crisp on the outside. Location: Little River Turnpike, in the strip mall where Ill Mee and Shilla Bakery is(drive to the back: it’s kind of hidden) Shop itself is very clean, staff is super nice(the chef brought out special sauces to go with our orders and they were good: wth varying degrees of tongue pain due to spiciness.) I think they even have two rooms for large groups who wish to combine deep fried goodness with cheesy karaōke goodness: WINWIN, I say. In all: success. I have found my chicken piece on the side next to Bonchon. Go forth, Unilocalers, and order fowl!

disagreement with juliet above, but i don’t think this was built to complete with the nearby bon chon. hi juliet… long time haha. this is a pretty well known chain in korea and they did a great job of opening one up in centreville, but this one fails in comparison. besides half the menu not being available yet since it’s the grand opening, their most valuable items on the menu just aren’t up to par with the one in centreville. if you order a basket of a certain flavor, i expect some consistency with each wing in the basket. i’ve been here twice now and both times the chicken was disappointing. i always get the teri-gold and bb wings and it just isn’t the same. the wings of fire i stay away from because although delicious, you might be paying for it later. but i can still say it’s better in centreville. from comparing what i’ve had at both locations, the waffle fries, the cole slaw, and the wings, are all better in centreville. the fries are crispier, the coleslaw isn’t just straight mayo, and the bb wings in centreville are always consistent and cooked perfectly. they have just the perfect amount of kick in them as well. the teri-gold sauce isn’t spread randomly across some pieces while others barely have any. the wings of fire are actually the bb wings with added hot sauce. i don’t know who’s cooking the chicken in the back, but they need to step it up. that business location itself is known to not be good luck for whatever store is there. i’ve seen at least 3 or 4 business transitions in that location since i first moved to the area over a decade ago. the service last night wasn’t up to standards as well. we ordered 32 wings(16×2) plus sides and he only heard the first order of wings. 16 wings for 5 guys? plus someone else on the way? after wondering why it was taking so long i asked and they definitely quickly resolved the situation. the manager(or owner) came out and gave us a free plate of bbq marinated(yangnyum) chicken since we had to wait so long. kudos to that. after going again since it’s a more central location for most people, i probably won’t go back. i love bbq chicken and beer. moreso than bon chon now because they have a wider variety of flavors, but sad to say i’ll probably just drive to centreville from now on. it’s worth it.

i feel like they opened this place to compete with bonchon, and if thats the case — then you will lose. the chicken is ok, but nothing in comparison to bonchon. we ordered: — wings of fire. totally disappointing. the description talks about this being and inferno of heat or something. its NOTHOTATALL. worst wings of the 3 that we ordered — everyone agreed. — BB wings. sauceless hot wings. wanna be KFC. super crispy so i liked that but it was seriously a korean version of KFC wings. — sweet spice wings. this was the best. BB wings with some sauce on top. this was spicer than wings of fire. best flavor. sweet and spicy at the same time. this was the best, but i wouldnt make the trek to annandale for this chicken.

Had no idea this place was open! Wandered in today for lunch. It doesnt have the full menu yet, so I think they should have had a temporary menu in place listing what is available. My husband was a little flustered when told two of his choices were not available. He ended up getting the calamari, and while it was delicious, the portion size was not as large as he hoped, and he didnt like the mayo dipping sauce it came with, and instead dipped it in the ketchup that came with my wafle fries, haha. But they had the most important items– chicken and beer. The chicken was awesome. I want to try the spicy variety next time! It tastes like katsu style chicken but theres a little extra flavor in the breading. I really really enjoyed it. I also liked the waffle fries. I anticipate an upgrade on my rating once the full menu is out and I can try more things. The menu looks like it has a lot of cool options.

We went to Shilla the other night and a new neon sign caught our attention: Chicken and Beer! Apparently a new fried chicken chain from Korea has replaced e Café(I’m a little sad to see e Café go, btw). I decided to get takeout the next day and learned C&B opened a few weeks ago. They do not have the full menu available yet(should be ready on Wednesday). As a result, my options were limited, and we ended up with 4 pieces of fried chicken, onion rings, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and a side Cesar. Think Korean KFC. The full name of this place is actually«BBQ Chicken and Beer,» and it looks like they have about 4 different kinds of BBQ chicken on their menu: spicy wok, garlic, fire«candy,» and mustard baked. Other options on their full menu: grilled chicken, burgers, sandwiches(including BBQ pulled chicken), a few salads, and Korean specialties. And poutine! Random. There’s a galbi burger made with beef and pork that I’d definitely come back for. In addition, they serve beer, soju, and a spied a few other liquors at the bar. I’m really not a fried chicken connoisseur since I tend to stay away from fried foods(except French fries of course), but it was pretty good. I guess it’s cooked in olive oil which is supposed to make it «healthier.» The Cesar salad had way too much dressing. The coleslaw and onion rings(oops – more fried food) were average. Decent prices. Takeout took a while – about 20 – 25 minutes(they had said 15). C&B is an interesting addition to the neighborhood. I’d definitely rather see a Korean fast food chain with a somewhat eclectic menu than a new McDonalds open up nearby. For me, this is a 3.5 pending my return for the galbi burger.
