Another good meal at zingermans deli. Try the #18 turkey rueben. Goes well with the iced green tea. The Mediteranian salad was yum. Save room for desert as they have a pretty large dessert offering in their bake shop next door.

Many of the sandwiches at Zingerman’s are easily 5 star creations, taste-wise, but they are so expensive that it’s hard to give them full credit. Our family of four recently ate there for $ 78.00. We each had a sandwich and a soft drink, we split an order of latke fries, and it cost nearly $ 20/each. This is not including a tip. OK, so if you can get over the price, the quality is there in spades. And so is the atmosphere. You really can’t find a better deli in Michigan… Or maybe in the U. S… Or maybe even –possibly — in the world. I don’t think you can go wrong with any sandwich, but here are a few that I recommend: — #24 The Ferber Experience: Zingerman’s pastrami, scallion cream cheese & fresh leaf lettuce on pumpernickel bread. — #23 Mary’s Commute: delicious chicken salad(chunks of hand-cut amish chicken, mayo, onion & celery), nueske’s applewood-smoked bacon, lettuce & mayo on challah bread. — #97 Lisa C’s Boisterous Brisket: hand-pulled beef brisket simmered in zingerman’s own bbq sauce on a soft bun, served with a side of applewood-smoked baked beans. — #202 The Banh Mo: Vietnamese chicken sausage from detroit’s corridor sausage co., the brinery’s pickled carrots, fresh cilantro and mayo. grilled on a soft bun

I love what Zingerman’s stands for and I LOVE spending some free time sampling their products and perusing the aisles. It is a fantastic environment for foodies and normies(heh) alike. Still, I think this deli is a bit overrated and over-hyped. I was disappointed with my last meal here. I had the«raisin d’etre» sandwich, the only sandwich I’ve ever ordered from here, and it was just not good this time. It was too small and there was not enough turkey, and the raisin bread, which I remember being so delicious, was stale. For the exorbitant prices they charge, I honestly expect better. My mom’s reuben was pretty good, but I’ve had quality sandwiches that are twice the size and ½ or 2⁄3 the price at Maize and Blue and Amer’s. As a former AA resident I have a lot of appreciation for what Zingerman’s brings to the community, but I think they need to work on some things.

First visit to Ann Arbor and I was told I had to visit Zingerman’s… Wow they did not disappoint. Tons of options, with fresh and tasty ingredients. And the staff– so friendly and helpful!!! Def a must try for anyone who hasn’t been. I will be back next time I am in town, or just take a Saturday and drive the 2hrs back.

I’ll join my fellow Unilocalers in praising Zingerman’s. A first-time customer, I ordered the smaller version of the Sherman’s Sure Choice sandwich(Zingerman’s corned beef, Switzerland Swiss cheese, coleslaw & Russian dressing on Jewish rye bread) and chose the young pickle as its accompaniment. The sandwich was yuge and tasty, though I found the application of Russian dressing to be a bit on the over-zealous side. Clearly I’ll be back!

I’ve seen this place on the travel channel about its highly raved sandwiches and quality ingredients. We were in town for the week and wanted to try it. I ordered the classic Reuben. First bite was good, but then as we continued eating… It was like eating out of a salt shaker. Everything was so salty. We literally finished half a gallon of water between the 3 of us and we couldn’t finish our sandwiches.(2 Reuben’s and 1 beef brisket) original and garlic pickles had a great crunch but also too salty. The meat to bread ratio was also kind of off. I didn’t want much meat… $ 15 for four oz of meat with the bread slices. Too much bread to meat. Paying $ 18 for 2.5 more oz of meat with the same size bread slices Way overpriced for what it is. I’ve had better Reuben’s at local pubs. Two stars for food, an additional star for the atmosphere.

One of the most common complaints about Zingerman’s is the wait. So you’d think that at 2PM on a Saturday in June, when most of the students have left town, that there wouldn’t be too much of a wait. And yet, when I went yesterday, the line is the longest I’ve ever experienced, stretching around the block. It took a solid half an hour between getting in line and placing an order, on top of the usual half hour wait between ordering and receiving food. But the wait gave Zingerman’s customer service a chance to shine through, Realizing how long the line was, they were passing out many samples along the way, from garlic potato salad to bacon pimento dip to proscuitto. And at one point they went around offering people ice water. It certainly made the wait more pleasant. As to the food itself, I’ve always previously ordered something off the menu, usually of the corned beef or pastrami variety. I had never before bothered asking for a modification, chiefly because restaurants these days seem increasingly unwilling to make modifications to their ever so precious dishes. To my pleasant surprise, I was told that they would make any modifications you wished, and if need be make a completely custom sandwich of my choosing. What I ordered was the Jenny’s Fix(pastrami, coleslaw, russian dressing, and swiss cheese on grilled rye), with half the pastrami subbed out for corned beef. I will say that I still prefer the Evan’s Double Dip from Schnitz’s Deli in Grand Rapids, because they make better coleslaw. But the sandwich was great, and very filling. Probably not worth $ 18, but since I so rarely get to visit Zingerman’s, I was willing to pay their notoriously high prices. To accompany my sandwich, I ordered a bowl of tomato soup, a bag of mesquite BBQ chips, and a fountain drink. While I am a fan of their tomato soup, I will say that based on how thick and sweet it is, it is closer to the type of tomato sauce I’d pour over pasta than what I’d normally expect of a soup. The chips offered are Zapp’s brand, which though an improvement over standard Lays offerings, aren’t all that great. And the sodas offered are all(save the diet flavors) made with cane sugar. This time I had their root beer, which was tasty, but lacking the bite that is typical of the soda. Previously I’ve tried the cream soda, vanilla cream soda, and black cherry soda, and found all of them to be decent. Occasionally I order the gelato, which is usually pretty good. On this occasion, because they didn’t have the coconut macaroon flavor I enjoy, and because I wanted to visit Blank Slate later, I forewent a visit to the gelato counter.

Exquisite. The pinnacle of great food. So fantastic that you will want to try everything and pretend to be a snob about food because you eat here frequently enough. Organic, perfect, amazing, delicious = Zingerman’s. Their Pastrami is probably the most delicious sandwich cut of meat you will ever eat in your entire life. If you have not tried this you are a food peasant.

Visiting ann arbor for u. michigan so of course had to stop by zingermans since we ve heard a lot about the place. Really great service and friendly workers who actually smile at you. Had the Aubreys milk and honey, definitely recommend if you like ham and sweetness. The setting and outdoor seating is great! Dessert is also BOMB and in the small building next door(get the Paris brest with strawberries and/or gelato) I guess only complaints are the bread that comes with the salad is rather hard(I prefer a little softer bread) and I don’t care too much for the pickles unfortunately although normally I love pickles… they just werent pickled enough i think. Also I think in general my expectations were rather high since ive heard so much about it, maybe too high? But overall the place IS great and you should definitely stop by!

Not just a deli but a worthwhile experience in Ann Arbor. Had some of the best meat and cheeses I’ve ever had, and the best part is being able to sample pretty much everything before purchasing. Everything was good, and you probably won’t go wrong with any choice, but some of my favorites were: –black truffle salt cheeses: hornbacher, gruyère d’Alpage meats: prosciutto di parma, 5J Jamon,…something, wagyu beef salami Chocolates: dark chocolate + crunchy sugar crystals & vanilla bean, tanzanine. Tried the Mindo hot cocoa and purchased the Mindo cocoa powder sandwiches: tried the JJ’s special which is pastrami and grilled onions. The crust was a bit tough, but the rest of the bread was delicious, and the meat flavorful and tender. soda: homemade soda! vanilla cream was good. birch beer if you like root beer good luck making choices. pretty pricey but would come back if I’m in the area.

I cannot handle how you ordered food at one place, pay in a different part of the building & then ordered drinks at the building across the way. Just put everything in one building Christ. It’s too commercialized it drives me insane. You don’t need 3 buildings to make a sandwich & shake. With you’re pitiful«deli». With everything we ordered it was not worth the 50 $. Yes, 50 $ people. Once in a life time thing. I can say I tried it but never will I do it again. This must be a thing for tourists and not locals. Not worth the hype.

Yes, the sandwiches are expensive. Yes, the lines are long. Yes, you should ask for BOTH pickles. I work across the street from zingermans but have somehow only been here a few times. I like the #2(so does everyone) and the beef brisket(I forgot the number)

So the delicatessen is just one of those places you have to try or bring your out of town friends to. They have some pretty good food, don’t get me wrong but the delicatessen is more about the experience. They are almost always packed so if you are going for lunch be aware of that. The menu is massive. There are so many sandwiches its insane. I am a huge fan of the reuben, it is super fresh tasting with a good ration of contents. The kraut on it is delicious and really pulls all of the flavors together. However I know many people that dislike the bread for the sandwiches because it has the potential of destroying your mouth. Despite how good the food is I still do not under any circumstances think its worth the prices… $ 17 for a reuben, give me break. You can also get some quick deserts next to the delicatessen at the small bakehouse, which had the best cheesecake I have ever had in my life.

Okay. It’s an Ann Arbor classic… I guess. I’ve had a couple of their sandwiches at events other people paid for, but today was my first time going in. On an overcast Monday at 1:30 p.m. it wasn’t tables-full line-around-the-block busy as I’ve heard it can get. So it’s an actual deli and you walk through to order your sandwich in the back. So. Many. Options. If you’re not good with choices, look it up online first. The employee at the front of the line said they were organized by type of meat or non-meat and narrowing that down would help. I got the #97 — Lisa C.‘s Boisterous Brisket(as seen on TV apparently) because I’d recently had the #62 — Jay’s BBQ Chicken. Obviously I like my barbecued meat. Both times I paid the extra two bucks for a large. Honestly no matter how good these sandwiches are paying $ 10-$ 20 for a sandwich just don’t make much sense to me. The baked beans on the side were alright. The beef was good and shredded nicely and the BBQ sauce was good too. Nothing that blew me away though. My sandwich also wasn’t full of meat, I kinda spread it around to make sure the two ends had meat. And it was just bbq beef and bread, I feel like looking at all the other sandwiches they have available they could have added *something* else. At least the #62 had cheese. Also, my friend had the chicken salad sandwich and it was way too salty. Tons of seating. Everywhere. We ate upstairs. Someone took our slip thing so they’d know we were upstairs. Food brought out to us.(Pro tip: if you’re eating with a group. Order together and then split the check after you order when you pay at the register. That way all your food comes out together.) They also had Zappos chips and some cool flavored sodas I didn’t try. I mean overall, it’s not bad food, I just really don’t get the hype. I’d eat it again, but I wouldn’t pay for it again.

Okay, the prices are a little on the high end, but the food, service, and ambiance make up for it. The sandwiches are massive and the meat is delicious. You order at the counter, pay at another counter, and then someone brings your order. It was rather rainy when I visited, but it looked like there was a cute outdoor patio for sunny days.

Glad I can cross it off my list, but I don’t know that I need to go again. Mostly because I don’t have the time to wait for my food like this. Our fatal mistake was arriving at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon with already rumbling bellies. The line to get in stretched around the building to our dismay. The wait to get in went quickly enough, with the talkative door attendant sharing samples of their deli items and facts about the restaurant. Thinking we would be ordering upon entering we were further disappointed to see that the line snaked thru the elaborate maze of display counters to the back of the restaurant. I’ll give to them– it was clever to make you wait for your food while standing next to delectable(and excessively marked up) treat items, like chocolates, candies, oils, salts and condiments. Once in the back of the restaurant, we were further funneled into two ordering new lines and then shuffled off to get our sodas and stand in line to pay. Finding a seat on the patio turned stressful when we saw how many people were waiting for their food. I wish I had known there was plentiful upstairs seating– I didn’t know that till I left. Thankfully we found a clean table near the back of the patio and waited another 25 minutes for the food to arrive. Now the real question: was the food good? Yes… Not the very best sandwiches I’ve ever had but worth the wait. The portion size was small for my salmon bagel sandwich, but the side of coleslaw was huge. My husband said the meat in his sandwich was a bit dry and the mustard was over powering but neither were deal breakers. My salmon was very tasty though and the cream cheese was delectable. I especially liked their sugary soda options like vanilla and black cherry cola. All in all, I’d recommend a trip, but try to time it on an off day/time so maybe your wait isn’t as long as ours was.

I’ve heard nothing but excellent things about Zingermans, so my s/o and I decided to try it for ourselves. The atmosphere is cheery, and a feast for the eyes. We decided to head into the back for sandwiches, and the menu was incredible! We were greeted with a friendly smile and helpful suggestions. I was very impressed with the large selection of vegetarian sandwiches! We chose to sit upstairs which was decorated very cheerily much like downstairs. Our sandwiches were brought to us and were greeted with another smiling face. After our meals we went back down to the cheese and meat section where the guys let us sample nearly a dozen cheeses before we chose a couple. We picked out a baguette, which was cut in slices for us. As we left we asked for a plastic knife, and we were given that, some plates, and napkins if we chose to have a picnic! Great service, excellent food.

For an out of town-er Unilocal is the tool to find these outrageous places. In this case this place has such a great reputation the locals make it mandatory to visit. My client said we’re going to Zingermans and boy was I glad he did. The extensive and creative menu is ideal do multiple visit. You can’t order a bad item. The baked goods and Knish are unbelievable. House made rustic cuts of crusty bread are just the tip of the iceberg of excellence. And the pickles were incredible too. If you are in Ann Arbor and Unilocaling up a place to eat you have to come to this place.

Heaven for my tastebuds. That was my lunch from Zingerman’s. One has high expectations coming here ‘cuz they have a reputation to uphold. And they do. Sadly, prices have caught up with the reputation, but the selection, quality and taste is fantastic. In my picky-girl-who-barely-eats-veggies Ann Arbor days(90s), I would only attempt Pat & Dick’s Honeymooner. A fine sandwich, still, I’m sure. But there’s a broader flavor world to be explored at Zingerman’s, so you might as well be adventurous. Prepare to be delighted. I couldn’t leave my recent visit to A2 without a stop here so we came for lunch arriving at noon. No crowds yet on this cold, drizzly, February Tuesday. Both the order taker and the other patrons who wandered up to the line offered thoughts on the menu as my son & I mulled over our choices. The order taker offered to let us sample the side salads. Thank goodness! I tasted the curry turkey(YUM) and so she suggested the #201: raisin d’etre. Mmmmmmm… SO. AMAZING. Yes, this was another of those please-don’t-let-me-come-to-the-last-bite meals! My son savored every last bite of his #85. He swapped applesauce for the beans since he’s not a bean-lovin’ kid. We also got the coleslaw side. Good, but the least memorable part of our meal. I’ve eaten other versions of coleslaw that I’ve enjoyed more. For drinks we each ordered a fountain drink so we could sample the selection of non-name brand cane sugar sodas. Orange cream, vanilla cream and black cherry were awesome! They were a nice accompaniment to our meal. We liked the ambiance of the upstairs seating. Not too loud, plenty comfortable. Slightly chilly at times. Wide open seating when we ventured up there just after noon, but it filled up during the hour we were there. If you’re an Ann Arborite you already know to come here. Visitors, you really do want to check it out. Come. Eat. Be satisfied. :-)

Alright so I heard a lot of good stuff about this place from several friends who attended U of M. So I decided to drive over an hour to get there. The place is basically a market that sell sandwiches as well. They have way to many sandwiches to choose from, so if you decide to go to this place, I suggest that you look at the menu before hand. The line might seem long, but they are fast in taking your order. I chose d-$‘s cuban conundrum and binny’s Brooklyn Rueben sandwiches the large size(they were not as large as I thought they were. I would say they were medium size). Honestly the sandwiches tasted alright(not the best sandwiches I have had though). The pickles were disgusting and I only had one bite of each. I would have given the place four stars, but I believe that the sandwiches are ridiculously priced and only privileged white people are able to dine at this place regularly. Twenty dollars for a sandwich is very expensive. Good food should not cost this much(unless if you are paying for the atmosphere– which is not the case here). I do not think I would ever go back to this place because I do not like to support people who are greedy.
