Hubby and I stopped by for lunch yesterday and found a note on the door stating that due to the economy Café du Jour had closed. I stood on the doorstep just stunned. One of my favorite lunch spots was gone. Never again will I have the yummy french onion soup or the so, so good grilled sandwiches. I am so very disappointed. If the owners are reading this post, my friends and I will miss your little lunch spot.

Wonderful Wonderful lunch spot. Hours aren’t the best, however the Sophie Suisse Sandwich will change your life. If you haven’t been there yet go!

One of my favorite lunch spots. The soups are outstanding(especially the French Onion Soup and the Southwestern Pumpkin Soup). I always ask for extra rolls with the soup because their rolls are amazingly delicious. I’ve tried some of the salads and sandwiches and didn’t like them quite as much — its the soup I go there for.

I realize that in a lot of larger cities, there are tons of «lunch only» spots, but there aren’t that many around Ann Arbor, which always gave Café du Jour an air of mystery for me. For several years, I was never in town on a weekday between the hours of 6 am and 6:30 pm, so a mystery it remained! This is a very sweet little sandwich place. I think that its charm is part fo what won me over. The soup I had on one occasion(apple-butternut squash, I believe), was wonderful and hearty, and I’ve enjoyed several of their sandwiches. None of them made me think«Dang! That’s an amazing sandwich!» Nevertheless, they were portioned just right and rather tasty. The food feels like comfort food. I realize they have salads — and they are probably pretty good, but somehow a hot sandwich or bowl of soup just seems more cozy so far. I’ll be back to try more!

I love this little place, for many reasons. I had never heard of them until last year, when one of my colleagues contacted them and asked if they would provide some appetizers and sweet treats for our non-profit auction, and they gladly helped out. Points there already! I met a volunteer out for lunch at Café du Jour this last week, and what a pleasant, snug, sweet locale. I agree with Lisa N. — the empty frames against the brick walls gives the place a phantom-like, intriguing feel, like there’s something in the room with you that you are not quite putting your finger on, but somehow you get to be a part of it. I’m sad I missed the toffee bar — I’m all over that next time. Oh, and their food, of course :-) I had a turkey sandwich with cranberry horseradish, and it was delicious. There were about 10 different sandwiches I wanted to eat off their menu in this one sitting, but my appetite only allotted for one, sadly enough. I can’t wait to try the others. I am sad I hadn’t been here earlier. I am certain I will find my way out of my office on Jackson Road to venture to this establishment for lunch more often.

Really cute atmosphere especially if you get a booth. It is a really perfect place to meet a friend and have a quite lunch. The food is great there, though sometimes I have had a bit of slow service, though they are always very nice and friendly.

Café du Jour has elite hours — try and catch them for lunch(between 11−3pm). It’s a simple lunch place with a quaint interior. The service is always outstanding. The couple times I’ve popped in, I’ve bounced jokes back and forth with the staff. They seem accostomed to getting out orders fast during the busy lunch hour. I was able to grab my Cobb salad and some pastries with a quickness. The almond cookie is light and not too sweet, but for a real sweet tooth try the toffee bar. I like how there are no pictures in the picture frames, it kind of makes the place feel ghostlike — a place that spontaneously comes to life for four hours at lunch and then closes down again. The brief time I was there, I noticed the staff from many local businesses popping in for lunch — like Cheers, but with soup!

Really really cute lunch spot. If you want soup and sandwich, this is the place for you. Beats Panera anyday. Try their french onion soup!

Great lunch joint. Prices are very reasonable and service is quick and friendly. Seating area is small, so there might be a short wait. Take-out is also available and might be best for anybody in a hurry.
