For this area, Tmaz is the best Mexican food period!!!(Chelas is a close second, but they don’t keep it nearly as Real!) First, liquados, fruit waters, ridiculously good. I stop by for a watermelon almost every time I drive nearby. Tacos… Fire!!! Great toppings, great flavor, and they’re not doing too much. It’s authentic! Soups, amazing! I’ve had almost the entire menu and I could recommend it all. Add to it the community development aspect and you can’t do anything but love Tmaz!

These hole-in-the-wall joints are where it’s at… Busy at lunchtime but you can call ahead. Worth the wait if not. Decent portions, good price, authentic.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a long time and decided to give it a go when I passed by in the course of some holiday shopping, but I can’t say Tmaz helped me sustain a festive mood. The layout of the place is a little hard to negotiate. I entered in front of what looked like a travel agent’s desk, saw a small produce cooler behind a partition further back in the room, and had to walk into another room to find the service counter. Once there the man behind it cheefully explained the different options, and I settled on three different tacos, pork pastor, barbacoa beef and chipotle chicken, figuring at least one would be a winner. While I can’t say any were bad, they just weren’t very impressive. The corn wraps(2 on each taco) were good, pliable with a good masa flavor. But there wasn’t much to the fillings beyond meat ‘n heat. There wasn’t the subtle spicing that comes in the best taco fillings, and that gets too easily overwhelmed by too much pepper. The pork pastor was oozing grease. I will say the cilantro and chopped onion topping each were fresh. Bottles of red and green sauce came with my plate and I thought the green was much better, a little prickly on the tongue with a balance of flavors. All in all though, nothing here tempted me to return.

I drove by at ten thirty on a Wednesday night, but they were already cleaning at the door was locked. So I wasn’t able to try their food. Which was sad as we were really looking forward to such a well reviewed place that was open until«eleven». I hope to try the food and update this review soon.

Definitely Best México tacos I’ve had in USA(I’m from Mexico) excellent food flavor and very cheap… but the place is not necessarily the best place to eat, looks like everything else but a restaurant or any food place.

Love TMAZ. Best and most authentic tacos in AA. We’re from AZ, and this place gives our favorite Mexican food there a run for its money.

Best tacos in Ann Arbor, easy. It’s so unfortunate that it’s not walking distance from campus. Also, they’ve been increasing the prices, so the tacos are $ 2 each now. Now that the negatives are out of the way, let’s talk food. The tacos are so authentic. The tortillas aren’t rubbery or anything, and the meats are all so full of flavor. They have all kinds of meats like pork, steak, chicken and chorizo. They used to have special meats like beef tongue and other stuff, but they seem to have gotten rid of those. They also have veggie tacos! If you’re not sure how much to get, 4 tacos is pretty filling, and it lets you try a whole lot of different kinds of meats that catch your eye. This place needs to move closer to campus!

Great job guys. Good food, good prices. Chorizo tacos is super. And their guacamole is a reason to visit.

«Hidden gem» for sure. Fresh, delicious Mexican grub and plenty of it. They have really good natural fruit soft drinks, that I believe are homemade, and the prices are excellent. The staff is really friendly and seem to enjoy running their business. Great stuff!

Such a small little place; with such savory and awesome taste! It definitely has the most friendly and welcoming cashiers. The food is affordable and scrumptious to the taste… This is a new regular spot for me!

Amazing guacamole with a ton of chips, tacos with deliciously tender meat(4 for $ 8 too!!), great selection of Mexican drinks and snacks, nice seating area with lots of tables, and a very nice staff! I can’t wait to go back!

Definitely a fan of Tmaz. The staff was warm, welcoming, and very patient as I was a little thrown off by the grilled fish tacos being out of commission for the night. I settled on the papusas with cheese and grilled veggie taco. The papusas were awesome and it was my first experience with these cheesy filled morsels. I would definitely recommend Tmaz, on account of the affordability, tastiness, and general customer service I experienced. Also, the tortillas are to die for, so there’s that too! :-)

I grew up and still live in San Francisco. The food at Tmaz is as good as what I grew up eating in the Mission District; a predominantly Hispanic area with an abundance of excellent taquerias. Be sure to try the charro beans. The staff was friendly and flexible; making our ala carte choices into meals combos. The enchiladas were as good as my Mexican grandma’s. Try this place. You won’t be disappointed.

We came here for a Sunday lunch and they were very busy. A large group was just finishing when we arrived so maybe that backed up the kitchen because the food took a very long time to arrive. Once the food arrived it was very tasty. I had a Cochinita(pork) taco and a pescado(fish) taco($ 2.50 each) and my husband a Cubana Torta. His sandwich was huge and was different from a traditional Cuban because it had avocado in it. I had a tamarind agua fresca which was very good and my husband had a diet coke(total was under $ 16). Because I didn’t have a huge Torta, I got a scoop of the mango ice cream which was really good($ 1.50)! I would go back just for the ice cream.

Best Taqueria in town, hands down. Great counter service, speedy cooking, super-friendly staff, and well-rounded menu. They’ve added seating and can now accommodate larger groups. My faves: — chorizo, poblano, potato taco — barbacoa taco — pastor taco(ooooh, the juicy pork + melting bits of crackling fat…) — specialty tacos with the pickled cabbage and fried fish is awesome. — tamales are never dry, very flavorful! Pork, cheese, or chicken fillings. — best Guacamole in town. I especially like the guacamole verde– nice and spicy!

4 tacos for $ 8 plus tax? Awesome sauce! Was in Ann Arbor for a wedding and needed a late lunch quickly as we were in the middle of getting ready. They have delivery but it runs through a third party so I just decided to order and go get it. The place is little and connected to a supermarket. Tacos were delicious, the steak in particular. Love that it comes with hot sauce that’s actually hot.

I’m sorry but I was not impressed. Again, I had high hopes mostly based off of the Unilocal reviews so I went in with fairly high expectations. I can eat anywhere from the fancy foo-foo restaurants to the hole in the walls. Actually, most of the time, I prefer the hole in the wall places. I would definitely classify it as a hole in the wall. The establishment itself is not big at all. They have a few tables indoor and a small seating area outdoors. Inside, you place your order at a small counter. It takes a little while to get your food because they make it fresh but I didn’t really care for the tacos that I tasted. My eating companion and I tried a variety to get a good feel for the place and none of them were memorable in my opinion. Its saving grace for me was the guacamole, which tasted super fresh and flavorful. And the desserts. The desserts were really the star of the show for me. The apple and pineapple turnover were pretty amazing! They have a good variety of Jarritos as well, which are always good. If I went back again, it would be solely for the guacamole and the turnovers. Actually, I did try to go again but they were out of the turnovers so you can imagine my disappointment since that was my only reason for going back. :-( Also, on a side note, the first time I tried to go here, they were closed. The hours on the door and Unilocal indicated they were supposed to be open but they were closed with no explanation. I probably won’t be returning anytime soon. There are just too many other places on my list. Sorry(shrugs shoulders)

Great tiny Taqueria with inexpensive(for Ann Arbor) tacos. The menu board, which they don’t have paper copies of, is divided into four sections: 1. Street Food(Antojitas) + Party Specials(Fiestas); 2. Chips + Sides + Drinks; 3. Tacos a la carte(cheapest) + Tacos Especiales(mid priced) + Bajas Tacos(most expensive); 4. Torta + Torta Especiales The main draw are the tacos, with 20 different choices in all with six being vegetarian, all made from two soft corn tortillas, fresh cilantro, onions, and limes on the side, with salsas on the table. In the a la carte section, the traditional meat tacos(Asada, Al Pastor, Chorizo, and Barbacoa) are all savory and delicious, without being unduly greasy. The sides are decent as a whole, but not spectacular — standouts would include the pico de gallo and charro beans, while the guacamole and Mexican rice are just okay. The single tamale experience was a bit of disappointment, with them being a little bit soggy. My significant other reports the horchata as good, if a bit on the sweet side. Note for gluten free folks: there’s options, but there doesn’t appear to be a separate prep area for gluten free only, so there’s the risk of gluten contamination. It’s a really great, laid back experience, and the staff is very friendly. Just a few improvements on my wish list: the cleanliness of the bathroom could be better; a paper menu OR website that was up and running; and sometimes they’ll run out of a staple… twice it’s been corn tortillas.

I found an authentic Mexican restaurant in Ann Arbor! Hallelujah. Since each item is pretty cheap, I might have gotten carried away but indulged in a barbacoa taco, fish taco, a strawberry agua fresca, and an order of fresh guacamole for the table. All for $ 11, which is a really good deal. I must have done the right thing in terms of the fresh guac because it appeared on most tables in the restaurant. The strawberry agua fresca was very sweet and filling. I wasn’t too hungry when I came so ordered two tacos, but normally I might get three if I didn’t get any sides. We arrived ~7:30pm, and midway through our meal the restaurant got pretty populated. The service is not speedy quick, but it seemed like there were only two people staffing the place so that’s justified and anyways it was nice chilling at an outside table chatting with friends at dusk. Being the foodie creeper I am, after seeing other diners with their meals I am so coming back for the torta ahogada(torta drowned in sauce)!
