Well, it could have been better if our waitress actually cared. I order dessert and my friend order real food. My dessert came first and was already slightly melty and not as warm as expected. Maybe my expectations were too high. I tried to wait for her but I had finished my dessert by the time her food came out. I got to watch her eat. I never got a refill on my water and she never checked on us either. To note I have been here several times for taco tuesday, but decided to switch it up today. I stopped there June 21,2016

Thanks for responding David, regarding your question, yes, I have resided in the Ann Arbor area since 1980. I ate here this evening after a friend recommended it. I ordered the Enchilada Verdes, it was brought out fairly quickly and hot. However, I was not at all happy with what I had ordered, the chicken had absolutely no flavor, like it had been boiled & shredded and rolled into the tortilla. There was a small amount of cheese on the three enchiladas, and I asked the server if she could have the kitchen put extra cheese on them and she looked at me like I had lost my mind. They did put the extra cheese on, but there was no improving the meal. The rice was also extremely bland, and salsa needed something. I was very disappointed that I had spent $ 15 on a meal that I did not enjoy… def won’t go back.

We used to like this place, but over the last several months it seems whenever we go in there’s: 1) ALWAYS a million people standing right outside of the entrance smoking. I love having my lungs be pummeled by smoke right before(and after) dinner. 2) super ghetto, super loud crowd lately. I can’t hear my husband to even hold a normal conversation with him. We left today SUPER irritated. 3) crappy ingredients. Nothing seems fresh. I actually had a piece of metal in my food today. Would have showed my waitress but I dropped it on the floor. I’m pretty sure I have food poisoning brewing right now and I barely touched my meal. 4) overpriced. Super-mega-overpriced. Worst $ 30 wasted today. 5) crappy chips. Enough said. 6) service — mediocre at best. 7) margaritas aren’t made fresh. I had a FLY in my drink once, and they didn’t even take it off the bill. They just scooped me out another one. Hardly any tequila in them either. We used to love coming here for $ 1 tacos on Tuesday but the crowd there makes it unappealing. Go to Maize in Ypsi. They make fresh margs and the tacos are great and chips are on point. *end rant*

Pretty good place overall. First. Hard workers in this family restaurant. I’ve been there a handful of times and I have seen the same workers there every day. They’ve been professional and courteous and the food I’ve had has been quite good. Never ventured very far from rhe fish tacos which I think are very good. Couple that with a frozen margarita and you’re good to go.

The food is great, it’s reasonably priced, they have excellent horchata, futbol on TV, AND a mariachi band! What’s not to love? I only wish their salsa had a little more fresh cilantro in it. Then it would be perfect.

Went during happy hour on a Tuesday with some of my friends and we had a GREAT time. It was a party of about 12 and the waitress was very attentive. The Monster Margarita was delicious! I had 2 of them! The tacos that came after were great as well! I’d definitely come back over and over for such a good experience.

Taco Tuesdays… do you really need anything else in life? 1 $ beef and chicken tacos all day every tuesday. Staff is always friendly, food comes out fast and tastes good, it is normally fairly busy on Tuesday afternoons and the service is always fairly quick as well. Try and go during happy hour and get a frozen margarita for half off… they are tasty also.

Typical bland American-Mexican food. My friend really liked the shrimp fajitas though. Also the inside looks pretty nice. The chicken burritos and enchiladas were unmemorable. The pitcher of margaritas was so weak that we asked, «Is this virgin?»

My boyfriend and I get coupons in the mail a lot because this is so close to our apartment and I have enjoyed each time we have gone. Sunday they had a Mariachi band and they took requests. I felt like I was in the movies getting serenaded, it was fun! My boyfriend is mexican and doesn’t get to speak spanish very often since I don’t know it very well. All the staff knows Spanish and I enjoy him being able to talk with them. The food was incredible! The first time I had some sort of spicy seafood soup, unfortunately I don’t recall the name ^^; the second time we had fajitas for two. It was sizzling hot and was so much food I had leftovers! I definitely would go to this location again. The one by the Briarwood mall is disgusting and pitiful… Just bad service and bad food. Go to this one! Its worth the drive!

Two stars because the staff was friendly, but I won’t be back. Overall the food is totally flavorless and bland. The chicken tortilla soup was in a clear broth and tasted like an ulcer patients chicken noodle noodle soup without e noodles and seasoning. Had to dump an entire bowl of salsa just to make it taste of something. The chicken burrito lacked flavor as well. They do not marinate the chicken in anything, it’s just white meat thrown into a flour shell. Update: 6÷4÷15 Well, we tried it again hoping that ALL the reviews, and my previous experience with bland food were wrong. Nope, we are all correct. Looking over previous reviews the owner keeps saying he is shocked at all the repeated comments about bland and flavorless food. Considering these comments have been made for over a year I think it’s time to admit the yourself that the food is awful. I will make it my personal mission to ward off anyone considering eating here. It’s too bad because the place is warm and welcoming inside and the servers seem friendly and hard working. They should not suffer because someone does not know how to cook or season.

Decided to finally check this place out after hearing a lot about it, I’m a maiz fan! Service was okay i did ask if it was coke or pepsi and she said just Pepsi when later I found out they had Mexican coke!(Which I would’ve gotten) I ordered a steak quesadilla which she kept repeating fajita so after 3 times she finally assured me it was a quesadilla that she sent in, our food arrives and it’s literally just cheese and very well done steak. Where’s the tomatoes? Peppers? Vegetables? I couldn’t eat it at all and I’m not one to send food back, the server could clearly notice my untouched plate but it didn’t seem to phase her. That same night I went to maiz and got my quesadilla craving out of the way with a real quesadilla not just cheese and rubber.

After passing by this place many a Tuesday, we decided to stop in for their $ 1 Taco Tuesday. Let me first start by saying that I REALLY wanted to love this place… like REALLY badly. It took us 11 minutes to be greeted by a server, had they been crazy busy I would be okay with this, but it really wasn’t, so I was just annoyed. When we were finally greeted by a server he seemed confused and not at all experienced, again not typically a problem but this guy just seemed lost. At the greet he dropped chips and salsa, and asked about being ready to order. My companion ordered a Margarita(and specified a preference for a Sugar Rim) which was on special and the information displayed as well as the server bringing it it up and I asked for an Orange Jarritos, which he somehow mistook for Hornitos Tequila. I corrected him and we were fine. It took quite a while to get our drinks. When he did come back he dropped the drinks and took off without another word so we had to wait more time to order an appetizer. I asked for the Cheese Dip and thankfully it was authentic and pretty good even if it was a small-ish portion. We finally got to the ordering part for actual food as my companions tummy was on full grumble mode. Unfortunately unlike a good amount of the Mexican places offering up Taco Tuesday specials it was only allowed for hard shell only in beef or chicken… super disappointing. We each ordered a couple of tacos and proceeded to munch on snacks. Now during this time we figured out that the margarita salt/sugar had a crazy weird taste to it and that it was pretty bad. Also the salsa almost had a marinara taste to it(someone add oregano instead of cilatro?!) and I’m sure that salsa from a jar had more complexity. After dumping in some hot sauce thou it became tolerable for my companion and completely inedible for me. Chips were served cold(and probably from a bag) and maybe even a tad stale. Then we got our tacos. For the price the size is great and that made me happy. And then I took a bite of the most bland tasteless crap beef taco. Seriously it reminded me of the tacos from my HS Cafeteria. Taco Bell Tacos are better then this crap. The chicken was a little better seasoned but I couldn’t get past the«from a can» taste. I understand that these tacos are $ 1 but Maiz and Sabor Latino can offer the same type of deal, a number of meat options including steak and hard or soft shell and still dish out a quality product I will return for. We didn’t even stay for desert for fear of another let down. All in all; sub-par service, SEVERELY disappointing main dishes and cocktails make me hesitate to ever return for anything more then a quick appetizer. Maiz, while not the greatest Mexican spot, at least served up decent enough food and a decent price, but as of now, still on a hunt for a great affordable Mexican spot.

From the waitstaff to the inconsistency with the quality of food, this place definitely needs a tune up. I’ve gone there twice to pick up carryout that I’d phoned in ahead of time and each time none of the staff were able to find the order. Thus I had to place my order again, causing an additional wait time. Also their food ranges between okay and bland(okay the first visit, bland the second). The food is inexpensive but personally I would prefer to pay a little more for better quality. The second time around was comparable to Taco Bell, maybe even a step down. No surprise however as it seems most restaurants that occupy that space tend to be mediocre at best.

My girlfriend and I tried this for the first time today. We have a few Mexican restaurants that we usually do but we wanted something different. I looked at Unilocal and saw that David the owner takes a lot of pride in his restaurants and actually replies to the Unilocalers which I appreciated. Another reason why I wanted to try this place. Just like the Greeks, Mexicans are very hard workers and are there to do a job, which is great. Although, I’m giving this place 4 stars because it took about 4 – 5 minutes before we saw a waitress. But from that point on, it was great. Our waitress was Dona and the service was friendly and fast and our drinks full. The chips and salsa was great with a little kick to it. My girlfriend loved the guacamole, better than any other place she said. The bar was full when we walked in so that also told me it was a great place to be at. The food is really good and the portions are superb. But like every Mexican restaurant, I wish there was spices on the chicken and steak, but I understand why they keep it light due to possible complaints. Just a note: there have been a lot of restaurants in and out of this location, don’t know why, so I hope they stay in business for awhile.

I have heard about the good drink specials at other locations for awhile and was excited when one opened closer to my home. My boyfriend and I went in for the cheap margaritas. The drinks were pretty much what I expected for the price. Nothing special, but I guess you get what you pay for. They were pre-made and came out of a giant jug for«on the rocks» or out of a slushy machine for frozen. We have been here twice and have been extremely disappointed with the food both times. I understand the manager has commented on several posts that the food is fresh and made to order, but if that is true it is not being conveyed on the plates they are sending out. The food comes out SO quickly that it is hard to believe that it is made to order. I would not be surprised if all the food is pre-made and simply reheated so it can be at your table in 3 – 5 minutes. I really should have had a stop watch because I do not think I am exaggerating here! If you like your food to have at least a little flavor, you are better off heading down the street to Taco Bell. The food was bland and I was left mystified by the lack of any heat what-so-ever. The tamale, which I had been looking forward to, was shockingly boring even compared to the frozen ones my Mother bought when I was a child. The guacamole salad was simply some thinly sliced lettuce topped with guacamole and a slice or two of tomato. No seriously… this is the amount of effort going into the food. Yes, it is inexpensive, but there is nothing here to me that says that any effort is going into your meal or drinks. While the staff is friendly, they are no more so than anywhere else. Our bartender the second time we were here didn’t know that I could get the strawberry margarita for a special price and pointed out to us the lack of communication. The only reason why I am giving them two stars is because I at least left a little tipsy with my bank account still intact. Save your money… even non-cooks can make as good or better food at home.

Not impressed or anywhere near there. The taquitos were made with ground beef, and the guacamole was clearly from a pouch, although it had a sort of metallic flavor which led me to wonder if there was a such thing as canned guacamole… Chips were fine, although I stumbled across one that tasted stale. Not a tough call to say that I will not eat here again.
