I called Harmon Glass Doctor for help getting some old, damaged storm windows mounted onto the house or replaced before winter. Between warped windowframes, painted-over mounting hardware, and coming-apart aluminum frames on the storm windows, I couldn’t get them attached solidly. The Harmon tech was very gung-ho and immediately attacked the problem with a prybar; 40 minutes later, he had all three problem panes more or less attached. He’d banged, scraped, and forced two in; for the third, he pulled off part of the aluminum frame, broke some of the mounting hardware off the house, and suggested using caulk and some screws to make up the difference. At the end, he said it wasn’t worth writing up a work order, and said no charge; then did the fancy-hotel-bellboy-waiting-for-a-tip thing, which seemed like a fair trade to me so I guessed an hourly rate and tipped him. My windows are mounted, I finished up the caulk & screw work the next day, and things have held through a few storms — but I’m not sure I’d actually recommend Harmon based on this experience.
