I am the mother of a University of Michigan student who rented a home from David McNamara. I have had two other sons and 5 nieces and nephews rent homes as students while attending the University. We have never had such a terrible experience as we did with this man and this rental. The home was in terrible condition when we rented. The basement was filthy and not cleared out. One of the bathrooms was lacking a toilet seat. I finally bought one, and my son installed it, since the landlord did not respond to repeated requests to install one. Little did we know this was to be a pattern. During the year (s), the second floor shower leaked through the floor into the downstairs hallway. Despite repeated attempts to get this resolved, this went on for months during which time the shower was unusable and one of the bedrooms developed a significant mold problem. It was finally patched up, and the leak began again… I could go on and on. The worst insult was that the boys had a difficult time getting their security deposit back (he lied about when he sent it which was obvious because of the postmarks on the envelopes), and then he deducted multiple charges for things that have been covered in every other rental we have been part of. This man is sleezy. He is taking advantage of students that are not knowledgeable about their legal rights or too busy to deal with them and absent parents. As a lifelong resident of Ann Arbor, he should be ashamed of himself.
