I’ve driven by this place a million times and as I watch it fade behind me, I always say to myself: «I have to try this place.» Today, I did. All I could think was, «Why did I wait so long?» Maxine greeted me warmly as I walked in and came around the counter to explain the different menus. And even though I’d never set foot in the place before, she made me feel like I was coming back to visit old friends. I like that… I like that a lot… That’s saying a lot, because I’m an introvert who normally just wants you to pretend I’m not there and let me be, but Maxine was able to let my introvert side feel unprovoked while I talked with her. But I digress… I ordered the loaded fries(Korean BBQ edition), because really, could fries get any better than that? I sat at the counter. Other reviewers have talked about the limited seating, so I don’t feel I need to go into that. It is what it is: a carry out place with a few seats, and I’m fine with that. I was going to get my food to go, being an introvert and all, but I decided to sit and soak up the ambiance. I liked looking out the window and listening to folks come in and order and chat with Maxine. I liked the occasional singing from the cooks in the open kitchen. The fries came quickly and lordy, lordy! They were amazing: complex textures and flavors that kept me wanting to take another bite… and then another… until(you can guess where this is going) they were gone. It was a large portion of food and I didn’t think I’d eat it all, but I couldn’t stop eating. That’s a good problem to have, I’d say. I can’t wait to come back and try all the other offerings. I watched the food that went out to others and each plate looked as good as mine.

Just ate at Eat, and had such a wonderful experience. It’s more of a to-go place, but there is limited seating as well. I decided to get the butternut squash soup to start and the Korean bbq sandwich. The butternut squash was creamy, and perfect on a cold night. The Korean bbq sandwich was so good! The meat was tender, and had so much flavor. The kimchi was spicy, and balanced the sandwich out. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good bite to eat. Also, Maxine is fabulous!!!

We were lucky enough to have eat cater our wedding last month and I cannot give them enough stars for how amazing and easy they made the whole process. From start to finish they were a dream. We started communicating with the back in the winter for a fall wedding and they laid out the timeline and steps very clearly. There was no question of what we had to do or when we had to do it by. The first, and most exciting step, was of course planning the menu. We had an «intake» call where we discussed what we had envisioned the menu to be(comfort food and seasonal since the fall bounty is so great) and then they came back with 3 sample menus. From there we narrowed it down to one menu and did a tasting. At the tasting everything we sampled was delicious and we decided to move forward with the exception of a few omissions(my husband is allergic to tree nuts so we had to cut some of those out which they did without any problem). Our menu? Mixed greens with crusty bread and delicious butter, roast pork shoulder with apple chutney, herb roasted chicken, mac and cheese made with Michigan raw cheddar, and seasonal roast vegetables. Apps included bacon wrapped dates, shrimp skewers, sweet potato canapé with goat cheese and thyme honey, and kale ricotta tarts. Now, being the Unilocal CM a good chunk of my job is planning and executing parties. So planning a wedding wasn’t exactly out of my wheelhouse. The only difference? I wouldn’t be around the day of to really make sure everything was running smoothly. Our wedding was at a friend’s place so there wasn’t an onsite staff so I was a bit nervous about how things would run. Luckily eat and their amazing staff handled most everything. From set up of the appetizer/cocktail hour, clean up of the trash(glassware/napkins), filling water glasses on the tables, all the serving of the meals(we went family style), etc. They cut and served the cake and cleaned up all the dirty dishes and stacked them for pick up by the rental place as well. They even helped move chairs from the ceremony into the reception area which I did not expect but sincerely appreciated. Not to mention every staff person we encountered was SO helpful, nice and friendly. I don’t know if they were just smiling at me because I was the bride and in a big poofy white dress but they really were all smiles all night! We had hired an excellent day of coordinator as well and between her and her partner and eat I didn’t have to worry about one logistical thing all day. I just got to have a ton of fun(and fun I had!). We also had them coordinate the dish ware, including the bar glasses, which was awesome since that was the part that had me the most nervous since I wasn’t used to planning sit down dining affairs and had no idea how many of each item to order. And most importantly? The food was delicious, everyone was raving about it, which made me extremely happy. They cooked a lot of it on site so it was hot and fresh. Clean up was a snap and they packed up leftovers for us, including cake(which was awesome given we had no groceries in the house and still had a few days before we left on our honeymoon). High fives to Emilia, Helen, and the entire eat staff for making our day so amazing, effortless and memorable.
