A bunch of cool people who are willing to sell you a bunch of great equipment at a great bargain.

My kids really enjoyed the«Meet the Instruments» half day camp this past summer. The class was just the right blend of instruction, quirkiness, and fun for my kids. They had no previous experience playing instruments and yet left the camp feeling really great about what they were able to do and learn in such a short period of time.

Took my daughter’s clarinet to Oz’s Music to have some pads replaced. Received a quote for more than 3x what her music teacher estimated. Since we were out of town for the week, I(reluctantly) agreed to proceed. Went to pick up the clarinet when told it would be done, only to find the person doing the repair had car trouble that day and didn’t drop it off. I never received a phone call to let me know. Don’t waste your money and time — find somewhere else to take your repairs.

I take lessons there from Dave Buehrer who is awesome. The staff at the store is always friendly and helpful and you get a discount if you are a student there.

Okay, this isn’t quite a business review, but Steve(Oz) stopped in my shop a few days ago to discuss some t-shirts. We ended up hanging out for 45 minutes or so discussing music, teaching, and life. I just wanted to convey how impressed I was with his clear passion for what he does and the joy /pride he takes in his students. I have had a few music teachers in my life, and while I have yet to sit with Steve for a lesson, have a hunch that he would top them all. Jerry Kozak Ann Arbor T-shirt Co.

I recently started a quest to buy a guitar and was leaning towards buying a Godin guitar, but without hearing them I couldn’t really decide which one. I had forgotten about this place and has planning a trip to Canada to get to the closest real instrument shop. But then today I remembered that this small, dirty, mixed bag of a shop actually carries Godin instruments. And the store happened to have two of the three Godin’s I was considering and they were beautiful specimens(I’ve seen lots of pictures and these had exceptionally nice wood grains). I played around a little in their amp room, which was rather pathetic: no effects pedals, no cry baby waa, only four different amps, and a weird smell. The prices are okay, typical store prices. Mostly they have crap but they did have exactly what I was looking for and the guy working there was really cool and informative. I left with the instrument in a hard shell case and was rather satisfied, but previous visits left me bored and not entertained or wanting anything. I did get a cool Guitar Theory poster from them a year ago. So it’s really hit and miss, but considering how small and sparse it is, I would say mostly miss. They have a large music room, and every Tuesday at 7:30PM they have some kind of get-together for singer/songwriter/acoustic instrument types. I’ve never been, but I’m interested.
