Carol Schultheis was great. She was nothing but good to me during my first months of pregnancy. However, during the course of my care, I decided to go elsewhere. I was looking for very personal care, and I thought I would get that from a midwife. Carol is a midwife, but she is associated with the University Hospital, meaning she has someone she answers to. She could not do a home birth. Also, my care was not as personal as I liked, talking to her I got the idea that she could not quite remember me each time I saw her. I would ask her questions and they would contradict what I was comfortable with. The last straw came when I got tested positive for Group B Strep and she told me I would automatically have to get antibiotics when I went into labor and be strapped to an IV!!! That opens a can of worms I didn’t want to have happen — which includes giving birth on my back as opposed to using alternative positions, and also introducing antibiotics into my body, which can cause problems with breastfeeding. That was a no go for me. I changed my care and went to different midwives who said that was not necessary and I had a great home birth.
