Been coming here my entire life — 40+ years — it is a sentimental favorite of 3 generations of my family, and it used to be one of my favorite places to bring out-of-town guests, with its old-school, lakeside cabin charm, friendly professional staff, and consistently decent food. I am no longer interested in returning. This is somewhat due to the slow decline in meal quality, but mostly due to their current seating policy — they will literally only allow you to sit at a table for 90 minutes, and the staff is strict and beyond rude about enforcing it. I am not aware of any other«nice» dinner restaurants who have policies like this… so I guess you can draw your own conclusions on where this puts Captain’s Cabin these days. The last straw was when we had a table of 6 for my father’s 70th birthday. After experiencing mediocre dinner service and food, we were rudely informed by the hostess that we wouldn’t have time to order dessert or after dinner coffee/drinks… because our table time was up. We left as instructed, with a bad taste in our mouths. Captains Cabin, I hate to say this because I’ve loved you for so long, but if this type of «service» continues, I’m afraid your time will also be up.

Made reservations, hostess says if we can eat in an hour and a half we can have the table. I dont like to hang around and told them we had no problem with it. Obviously, our waitress was uninformed of our time slot as it took an hour to bring us our salads. When our food FINALLY arrived, the hostess came to my table, leaned on it and said«you said you wouldn’t take so long to eat!» Literally, we just received our meals and she says that to me! Scallops were amazing, but I will never ever spend my money in that establishment again. Our poor waitress kept apologizing for the hostess’s behavior, after we told her we’d been bullied because our food took so long. Never again!

Surprising tonight. Not the same quality as Normal. Products were poor quality some actually spoiled. Potatoe was actually black and spoiled in middle. They must not keep quality control or buy old products. Prime rib not flavorful Salad old. Wow. Hope they get it fixed before summer is over

Way overpriced. Rude staff very disappointed on treatment. Will stick to bar area much more user friendly. Food is good but expensive. Good luck getting a view of the lake. You must have to be Someone to get good service and good seating. So good luck

Dinner was fantastic. Newly renovated bar area was quaint and upscale. Wait staff was friendly. Clam chowder New England style was home made and worth it. Prime rib was good, not great, but seafood and shrimp were top notch. Key lime pie was home made and just like momma used to make. Try the place. It’s nicer then you think.

The worst dining experience I have EVER had! The owners are the most rude unprofessional people I have ever met! Multiple people in the area have had similar issues. The food is average & over priced but it’s the only game in town which is why people go back. Be prepared to be treated horribly, possibly screamed at, & ready to eat canned vegetables! We will be driving to Ft Wayne or Toledo from here on to go to a real steak/seafood restaurant. This is a poor excuse for fine dining. They always rush you to turn the tables & close when they feel like it. If you have have a seating preference they will not accommodate you. The service is less that adequate. Even the hostess is rude! They have also recently increased the prices quite substantially. Will NOT be returning & plan to share my experience with as many people in the area I can. Looking forward to new ownership!

I live the food here. The crab, steak, and lobster are to die for. This is a bit on the pricey side for me but if you’re here to indulge in some great American food this is the spot.

The best local restaurant around! Despite the raves for the tilapia, I tried the dusted salmon and am glad tp give two big thumbs up! My friend had the Captains Ribeye which was cooked perfectly medium, great char and flavor. The salmon was succulent, juicy and flaky. The almond dust heavenly. Both of us had the soy ginger dressing and ’twas phenomenal — eyes rolling the head GOOD! Be sure yo try the seven layer tuxedo cake for a decadent treat, too. The Chef Jason is an incredible guy with great sense for balance of presentation and delightful flavors. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!

If you want really fine dining in a casual lake atmosphere, this is one of the lakes of Indiana/Michigan best places to enjoy an evening of eating, drinking and enjoying the view of beautiful Crooked Lake. The food is consistantly good and their cocktails are generous. Service is always friendly and efficient. The only drawback is the menu needs to be a bit broader, although they usually have good fresh seafood options. I’d just like to see a couple of interesting«regular» items added that are tasty in case none of the specials appeal at the time. Sarah and Jason are really wonderful owners and work hard to make your visit enjoyable. One of our favorites.

Excellent service, ask for Lynn. Food good, however, green beans from a can is not acceptable. Stick with the potato side.

Stepping into the Captain’s Cabin is a little like what I imagine it would be like stepping into a time machine and setting it back about 50 years or so. It is located right on the shores of Crooked Lake. You can boat right up to it and go to dinner. Reservations are recommended on the weekend, but not required. The greeter seemed a little bit surprised by us arriving without reservations, but after the initial surprise, went inside and rearranged a table for us to be seated. The three of us ordered, respectively, the Tilapia, The Shrimp and The Captain’s steak. All dinners came with a side and a salad. The Blue Cheese dressing was excellent. The Tilapia was just okay according to the DW. The Shrimp were huge, but not enough of them to fill up the 17 year old son – but not much does fill that boy up. In fact he had half of my steak, about half of the DW’s(dear wife’s) Tilapia, rolls and dessert before he had enough energy to pry himself out of the chair and continue with life. So service was good. Food was good. Bathrooms were single holers. It was very noisey in the dining room, probably due to the fact that almost every table was imbibing in alcohol.

What, great food in Angola? YES! If I could have shoved more food into my mouth, I would have. The special appetizer, Jumbo Shrimp, was so good, I ordered more. The cheese that comes free with the bread and crackers as AWESOME! I liked the bowl. I usually prefer fresh seafood prepared NOTFRIED but the fried stuff my friend ordered was soooo good, I practically stole all her food. Did I mention the full bar? I wished that their menu had more options for fish. However I ate everything in front of me(or on my friend’s plate).

Great place to have a good meal. The food could be better at times, but I’ve also had some great dinners there. The service is friendly and the downstairs bar is a great place to relax.
