This corner bar just changed it’s name it’s now The Gold Digger. It’s easy to find and remember because it’s on a corner right next door to the visitor information center witch is always a good stop with its clean modern restrooms. This town while known for it’s gold was really catapulted to famous status for it it’s frog jumping contest«Calaveras county» Highway 49’s winding roads and occasional traffic can tire a person. So take a break and stop here as I’ve done on 3 trips now. Our bartender Raylenae was friendly and engaging in conversation as were the other locals sitting at the bar and have been on every stop I have made there. Why the 5 stars? The bar is not fancy. It’s not going to make you feel like you’re living the lifestyles of the rich and famous. But I wasn’t expecting that. And as long as the bar doesn’t have that stale beer smell and the bathrooms are clean it passes the first test. Next do you get the stare down like you’ve invaded private local territory. And last do they buy the cheapest rum and vodka for the well. With rum so cheep I don’t get why so many bars do that. If you make it through those test you’re well on the way to finding a good bar. This bar passes the test and is one of those rare places where the community comes together to discuss Community items, it’s a place where friends come together after a day of working. And from what I see they are willing to accept strangers as friends. When you stop here don’t mess up a good thing. Treat these people with respect. Because my short time with them they’ve always been a memorable and enjoyable part of my trips. Mel and Linda

I enjoy a good dive bar but this was a pit of a dive bar. First was the smell, dirty, and a hair in my beer. On the plus side, bartender was nice, and beer was cheap. I couldn’t drink fast enough to get out.

My husband and I watched the Bruins win in OT here in May, 2014. I’m a clean-freak, and was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the bar. The patrons were welcoming and Shirley the bartender was awesome. We spent a few hours enjoying ourselves. No real food to speak of but draft beers were good and fairly priced. The second shift bartender(Female, name began with a T I believe) that replaced Shirley was, in my opinion, crass and unprofessional. I would have left early on had she been the bartender working when we arrived. Free wifi through the Visitor Center but no cell signal(Verizon). Would return.

Came to Angels Camp on business and I have never been to a bar with more inclusive people. Invited me to play in their small pool tournament. They all introduced themselves and made me feel welcome. Bought me a few drinks. Had some laughs. Good time was had by all. As long as your not uptight and willing to meet new people, you should have a great time. Only down side was no credit cards, but the crowd made it worth it.

Stopped in one Spring morning in May after the bar just opened and asked what they did for fun in the town? I was told by two guys the were just ready to walk to the middle of the street and drop their pants to stop traffic, \Country humor at its best. Love this bar. Terry

Oh this place is a true gem! Based on the Unilocal reviews I HAD to take my friend here on our getaway weekend. We were warmly welcomed and quickly became part of the«regular family» here. The bartender was amazing(John, I think) and the patrons were friendly and hilarious. Beers and shots were cheap, great people… only wish it were closer! Con: Cash only

When ever in Angels Camp we visit Claussens Corner. The people are so nice, the bartenders are great and the pool table is only 50 cents. They played music for us last time we were there. We always have fun and that’s why we go back!

What an awesome place. Spent a rainy Memorial weekend up at the lake last year and we decided to run into town for a few things. Ended up at Clausen’s Corner and instantly were made to feel welcome by Shirley, the bartender. Many birthday shots of Jim Beam later we made our way back to the campsite. Can’t wait to stop in again this year!!!

If ever there was a dive bar you should visit if driving along highway 49 in Gold Country, it is this one. This is by far the nicest and most welcoming bar I have ever visited, my boyfriend and I both agreed. Since we have probably a combined 25 years of bars and alcohol between us, that is saying alot. Many at the bar chatted with us, bought us drinks, and a man gave me two teddy bears he won from that machine. NICESTBARINCALIFORNIA.

Wow. On a Friday night in Angels Camp, CA Claussen’s Corner is the place to be. There was a 21 year old celebrating his birthday and that brought in a whopping 6 people along with the single guy shooting pool. The bar looks like the same one that was installed when the city was founded in 1848. The absolute lack of décor was the greatest dive bar décor ever. Crown Royal is on its own shelf, so that is obviously the holy grail of the city. No Knob Creek, no Michael Collins. In fact, New Castle is the best beer served. They did have THE best selection of Johnny Cash on their juke box, and that was worth the price of admission.
