SoYo is amazing. My favorite so far was the Hawaiian pineapple flavor. They change out their favors often so there is always something new to try. They always have a full baron goodies to mix in, and if something you want is not out, just ask and they will get it for you. Don’t forget about your coffee bean after you pay!

I’ve tried all the yogurt shops in town. This is the best one! They have imaginative and custom flavors(I really liked Memorial Day Cake) and take suggestions for toppings! I suggested waffle cone crumbles and they’ve been there ever since! You can try all the yogurt flavors before you commit, and the music is never offensive. Staff is always friendly, the place is sparkling clean, and the bathroom is the best one I’ve ever seen in a retail establishment.

I knew before I even went here, that I would enjoy it. I emailed the owner, asking about certain ingredients in their yogurt, and she promptly got back to me with a detailed listing. I was super psyched that they don’t have gelatin in their yogurt, like some chains do, and I was happy she got back to me so quickly. I went there last night with the boyfriend, and we sampled a few of their flavors. I think there were 8; I tried the mac nut, chocolate, and red velvet, all of which were amazing. He did not care for the tart nor the cookie dough chunks(I admit, they did have an «off» taste to them), so he got a mix of a bunch of different flavors, and I went with choco and mac nut. The service was super friendly, and she didn’t mind that I accidentally spilled a bunch of sprinkles :[(sorry about that). The yogurt was super yummy, the décor was real spunky and eclectic, and I can see this becoming a very bad addiction very soon. Although I will note, the country music is just downright *awful.* They have some country music channel blaring non-stop.

Stopped by Soyo this afternoon after reading about it on Facebook, because I’m a huge froyo fan and wanted to check out the latest offering. I went in wanting to love the place, but left not quite as enthusiastic. Let me preface this review with a bit of a mea culpa: while this shop has been open for over a week now, this weekend is the official grand opening, so much of my criticism could just be chalked up to growing pains. I offer them in the hopes that they will be taken to heart by the owners, as they seem to want to do right by their customers. First off, loved the selection of flavors. From fruity sorbets to good old fashioned chocolate, there really is something for every palate. Unfortunately, things go downhill the moment you pull on the machine lever. While froyo has a tendency to go watery as it melts, especially the no sugar added flavors, water should not be dripping out the moment you begin dispensing from the machine. I like to mix things up, so I went with three flavors in one cup, and of those three, only one came out the way it should. Not sure what is to blame here, but after 10 minutes, that same one flavor was the only one of the bunch to not take on a weird shaved ice texture. It was also the only one that tasted the way it should. Maybe I just picked two duds, but it was disappointing all the same. Next stop was the topping bar, and here is where I really hope the owners are paying attention: your sugar cube tongs are cute, but in this application they are all wrong. I practically had to place the mochi and gummy bears onto my desert one by one, because of those comically-small tongs. This is kind of amusing when there is only one person in line, but on a busy day(which I hope you will see many of) your topping bar is going to turn into a huge bottleneck. Seating is good, and the booths are comfy. I don’t really care for the colors of the décor, but that’s just me. It’s all quality designs and craftsmanship though, and I like the overall layout. Where Soyo stands out from the competition is it’s staff, and by staff I mean the young blonde girl that seemed to be working by herself this afternoon. She greeted me sincerely the moment I walked in, which made me feel welcomed and appreciated, as opposed to the usual half-hearted«welcome to so and so,» which most places throw out as a reflex more than a sentiment. She talked up all the toppings, as well as the many events and special contests that are going on this weekend, and did a much better selling the place that the actual product did, frankly. It is because of this that I plan on visiting Soyo again in a few weeks, hopefully after they’ve had a chance to work the bugs out. I’m very thankful to have this kind of business here in South Anchorage, especially with gas prices being what they are. While my first visit wasn’t a great as I’d hoped, the enthusiasm I’ve seen from the owners on their Facebook page, combined with that of their staff, I have no doubt that Soyo will quickly turn into a regular guilty pleasure for many, many hillside residents.

We went into SoYo today for the first time not expecting much. The location is kind of strange and all you see from outside is the sign… However, inside was a whole different story. Very warm and inviting atmosphere, great décor and design. Then there was the yogurt. They had a ton of different yogurt options, and even a great sorbet option for people like me who are allergic to most of the food on this earth. My wife and daughter loved the yogurt options though. The toppings were very fresh and yummy. They had lots of fresh fruit options too. All in all, this is our favorite yogurt place in town now(having tried the 3 we know of). We will be back.

I should disclose that I know the owners, but that means I can tell you truthfully that you have never met nicer ladies! SoYo is an amazing addition to South Anchorage. The décor in the store is warm and inviting. The tile work on the wall is truly art. They have an ever revolving choice of flavors and every topping you could imagine. So far my favorites have been Red Velvet Cake & Cake Batter! Simply devine. Do yourself a favor, make SoYo your go to spot for frozen yogurt.
