Goinng to Sacks Café since 1991. Always good & eclectic meals. Good service. Always nice dinner experience. And the desserts! Out of this world.

A must eat at when in downtown anchorage. I had a leak and pear soup and it was amazing. Anyone who can make that work must be genus. I ate the spicy thai seafood plate and loved it. Great flavor and quality. Clean service area and great service. I made my reservation on Unilocal. It worked fantastic I am going to use this utility more. Just go here and eat you will love it

Sacks has a good breakfast + lunch(sandwiches, soups, salads, coffee, all tasty). My positive feelings extend to lunch only, however. At dinner Sacks transforms into purveyor of small plate New American & they aren’t pulling it off. Everything we tried at dinner was overpriced and under flavored(burger, fries, duck fat poutine, salmon sushi thing). Lunch is good and cute though, great place for taking your mom or an auntie you like, so still four stars!

I’ve had both brunch and dinner here, and I was very happy both times. The staff was was wonderful and kind, and found a table for my family at a very busy time.

This is one of only two places in Anchorage where you can get both good strong coffee AND yummy yummy food under one roof. This is the best kept secret in Anchorage for brunch. Kaladi Brothers coffee roasts beans just for them! It seems like portions are smaller, but it’s just because it’s normal portions, not ridiculously large American sized portions. You will get full. They make some salads that are insanely good. Wonderful atmosphere. The prices are reasonable! Anchorage is totally sleeping on this spot, which is great for people«in the know»!

Amy was my server– very friendly and attentive. For starters, I tried the crab and scallop cake– I love to get crabcakes and usually order at every restaurant but have never got it with scallops. I felt like an amateur reading this! Glad to have tried it but it was a tad bit on the bready side. Still good flavor and the sriracha cabbage slaw that it was served with was quite interesting. Heavy on the raw onions and cabbage but the celery seed potato chips and sliced pickles gave it some more crunchy contrast. I had the Pascual Malbec from Argentina which is more on the full body side and just perfect with the crabcakes. It was also perfect with the Red Sockeye Salmon with a soy maple glaze. This was served with a side of jasmine rice and sauteed Asian veggies, presented as a deconstructed spring roll. Complete with a wasabi aioli. Hands down, this was one of the best salmon dishes I have ever had. The fish is very red and you can see how its earned its name. For dessert, the Gâteau au chocolat, a flourless chocolate cake, served with freshly whipped cream was the perfect finish to the lovely malbec wine. This restaurant is located near tourist central so I was pessimistic at first but then after tasting the food, I could see why this place is so busy! I called for reservations and was glad I did. I will definitely be back! There’s plenty of parking on G Street at one of the meters.

I came in for brunch with my parents today and had a great experience. Ive never eaten here before but i dont live in town so maybe its kinda new? I ordered the eggs benadict and my parents got sandwiches accompanied by mimosa and a prosecco. The food was delicious and presented well. The server Christopher was great and helpful. The restaurant itself was the right amount of quiet and very clean. I also claimed my free dessert for«checking in» and got the Spiced Apple Cake which may actually be one of the best desserts ive had in a long time, very light cake with fresh whipped cream. This is a great spot in Anchorage! Deff worth checking out!

My boyfriend and I ate here on our first night in Anchorage. We were both pleasantly surprised and enjoyed everything about Sacks. Our server was fantastic — she gave great recommendations, was very attentive, and made the dining experience top notch. Our food(tomato/Gorgonzola soup, warm autumn salad, salmon, shrimp & udon noodles) was great. There was nothing we ordered that we wouldn’t order again. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Anchorage.

Why wait at snow city café for breakfast when Sacks is better and close by. I had the reindeer sausage omelet and it was Awsome. Huge portion perfectly cooked. Server was a gentlemen.

What a super cool place!!! Hubby and I were walking in the Downtown area and ducked in here for a quick snack. As other Unilocalers mentioned, they have great service! Stop in and enjoy!

I’ve since visited Sacks many, many more times, and I’ve decided to upgrade my review. The brunch here has improved!(I avoid bacon now) They actually took my advice(or maybe it was a coincidence?) and they now carry Anchorage Brewing!(in the bottle) Service is well above average for Anchorage. I think they have some of the best halibut preparations in Anchorage. Still a great, secret, brunch spot. You can often slide in here with no reservation.

I had a wonderful experience at Sacks tonight. Brandon greeted me as I walked in the door and provided fantastic customer the entire evening. My dinner was excellent. It exceed my expectations in flavor. One of the best meals I’ve had in Alaska.

So I’m out in Anchorage on a family vacation from the East Coast(Philadelphia, PA suburb) and I figure I will review local restaurants I have tried so other tourists and/or locals can avoid the pitfalls of a bad meal/dining experience or find a local gem. Atmosphere was very nice inside and out. It is located off a clean street near several art galleries. Service was spectacular. Our waitress went above and beyond and was fantastic. The food was top notch. There was a decent selection of entrees to choose from too(and the portion sizes was pretty large– enough for me to bring some home) when compared to many of the other fine dining restaurants I visited while here in Alaska. Overall Sacks was a solid A nearing an A+ in my opinion.

We were referred here by Snow City and they advised us they had«plenty» of seafood on the menu. Only seafood on the menu was salmon tacos and salmon salad. But I won’t hold that against Sacks. They are getting 1 star for their horrible service(wish zero stars could be used!) and 3star food. We were met with disdain by the young man at the door when we advised we did not have a lunch reservation. No comment, no «oh, no problem», no «oh well, it’s okay«…nothing I tell you! Not even a perfunctory enjoy your meal when he seated us! Just the raised left eyebrow + pursed lips«look». Our waiter was clearly discombobulated as a result of his very obvious adoration for his friends at the next table. No sugar offered with the coffee, soup came out at the same time as the entrees and one entrée came out wrong. Had that been the end of it, this would be a 2, maybe 3 star review. I mean we all get caught up when we haven’t seen someone in a week, right?!(Yes, heard their entire conversation). My friend ordered the salmon salad and it was just ok. She’s from SC& was really expecting«good» salmon. This was nothing special in terms of flavor or preparation and honestly I expected better considering we were right in season. I ordered the Udon noodles, black bean salsa on the side and extra ginger. It arrived with black bean salsa all over the top and no extra ginger(I can forgive that… I’m a ginger hog & I know it!). However, it’s not a preference thing on the peppers and most black bean or corn salsa has peppers in it. Their black bean salsa was no exception(they were very finely cubed & not exactly over the top in quantity so if it was a flavor thing, it wouldn’t have been a big deal). I asked to have it done over sans salsa. They promptly brought it back out(GREAT service I thought!) and then I saw it… some stray black beans and those very finely cubed peppers buried throughout & under my noodles. They had seriously take my plate back, scraped off what they could & stirred everything else around in an attempt to hide the offensive salsa remnants. I thought I was being punk’d or on candid camera. Nope, just arrogance! When I asked if that was what happened, our waiter responded, «what do you want us to do, make it over?» Oi! Never again. Embarrassed I took a friend there.

I can’t even put it in words it was that bad. Let me give it a shot though. My birthday, Monday night, 6pm, not may tables are filled maybe 6. The waitress looks like she’d rather be watching paint dry on the wall than attend to customers. We go through three people before getting seated for our reservation. Our waiter is a friendly guy who asks us for our drinks which he promptly delivers along with the house bread, very light and fresh. It was caring of our waiter to warm my tea cup, a nice touch. He takes our order so we can get in line before the big party of 7 puts theirs in. 40 minutes later this same big party gets their meal first despite ordering a good 10 minutes after us. Annoyed we wait another 10 for our food to appear. This was the most disappointing meal… My mom’s duck confit was nothing but over cooked vegetables, some had gone sour and 5 small pulled pieces of pulled duck. Definitely not worth $ 26, might as well have gone home and made our own grilled veggie mix. My meal, the chicken(I subbed tofu) and shrimp was unappetizing. I mean not just taste, the presentation lacked a certain finesse one might expect from Sack’s. The pile of heavy udon noodles lay in a puddle of ginger cream sauce almost inedible. The black bean«salsa» was no salsa at all but plain, undercooked black beans simply spooned on top. The tofu was deep-fried like tempura and there were only a few shrimp adorning the soggy dish. I barely ate any. Dad won the«best» tasting dish but it still wasn’t what I would have expected from Sack’s. He got the Brazillian stew, more like tomato soup with some spice. Yes there was flavor but there could have been more seafood for the $ 32 price tag. To say the least this birthday meal was $ 117 wasted. So does it sound like I will be returning any time soon? No, at least not until someone pinky promises me to the moon and back that this place is back up to snuff. I miss the days when every dish ordered here was eaten in solid satisfaction. One of the stars goes to our waiter who was trying his best and one for pity.

They have theee best fresh squeezed OJ! A definite must order when you come here. This is a cute and cozy spot for brunch. I came over the weekend and had a cup of chili and the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was perfect and the potatoes were well seasoned. The chili was pretty good as well. I’d probably skip the sour cream next time. I like my food hot and so once you mix the sour cream in, the chili gets kinda cold. Service was great! Our server was very attentive. Definitely one of my fave brunch spots!

This place was good. I came here with my husband at 5 on a Friday night and it was pretty empty, I guess we were a early for the dinner crowd. The service was excellent, our waitress was kind and very professional! The food was ok, we got the scallop appetizer, a risotto dish and a steak. It was good, but not really worth the price. The portions were a bit small and didn’t really wow us. I think there are much better spots in downtown. I’m surprised bc I really like spenard roadhouse and snow city café. Maybe I expected a bit more bc the environment is a bit fancy(but so are the prices!) I may come back to try their breakfast or lunch, but it not a priority for me. I’d rather repeat a couple other spots before I come back to sacks.

This place is a nice find in downtown Anchorage. You get what is presented like, and tastes like, a really upscale restaurant for mid level pricing. Two people ate for around $ 40 and ate fresh seafood and great entrees. The flavors were very unique and I was pleasantly surprised by their choice of ingredients. Solid place, cool location.
