D Manaku is also the only reference I have for this«food stand». We found this place when the pickled mango sign off the Kuhio Highway caught our eye. Did an illegal U-turn and drove up the road to a dirt driveway with other signs offering a selection of local treats. The gentleman manning the table was super friendly and was proud of the items he had to offer. Not only did we walk away with pickled mango, but we got chocolate coconut meringue bars and an assortment of other goodies. Definitely worth pulling over if you’re not in a rush and appreciate the local way of entrepreneurship. Get into the local Aloha spirit.

since im the one adding this business on Unilocal, have to preface with… don’t know if this food stand is actually called«d. manaku» but it was the only reference i was able to find. to start… the stand is only open on saturday and sunday… not sure of the hours but everything closes early in kauai, so going midday is best. so we ended up at this spot, because the wife is always on the lookout for pickled mango whenever we are in hawaii. during our most recent visit to kauai, we saw a sign for pickle mango driving down kuhio highway from princeville heading to kapaa. of course, we had to stop. the guy at the stand was very nice and offered my wife a sample of the pickled mango. unfortunately, it wasnt to her liking but she does look for a particular taste so it may be good to someone else, just not hers. the guy… who i’ll call«d»…not sure if that’s even his name but figured d. manaku is the owner/resident, gave us some great tips on where to eat on the island. one was village snack in hanalei, which we were already referred to by our bellman. if you like fried chicken… then village snack is a must! d also gave some non-food advice… dont buy gas in princeville since its way more expensive there. but we quickly figured that one out on our own. my apologies for the long intro, but the single reason why i am writing this review is for their hawaiian dream cake. one of the best cakes that i have ever had!!! they serve it as a mini bundt cake. the cake is moist yellow cake but covered with a frosting(not too sweet but sweet enough) made out of cream cheese and mascarpone cheese and pineapple. the cake was then topped with chopped pecans. if any of those ingredients sound good to you and if you are ever in kauai(during the weekend of course), then i highly recommend stopping by! the cake was shared by 4… my wife and another couple. i could have easily eaten if all by myself… and this is coming from someone who is on a low carb diet! i would totally do extra gym time for that cake! they also have other bakery items. we bought some mango bread which was also pretty good. taste similar to any decent carrot cake or zucchini bread just with mango instead. but i can say its good because my 2 year old loved it… and shes a pretty picky eater. they had some other breads/cakes but my memory will only let me remember the dream cake! my hope is that this review will keep this stand in business until the next time im in kauai so i can have more of their dream cake!
