This Northgate is a little on the small side. But that’s okay because they have just about anything you need to make for dinner. The main reason I like to go here is because the girls at the cash register have great customer service. They’re great. I’ve been going here since 2006 and over the years there’s a couple of girls that work in the front that over the years have come to know me and my family. With a friendly smile and a greeting if I have any question they’re there to answer. Because the store is a little small to me it’s a benefit I walk in get what I need and check out I don’t have to walk up and down many aisles to get what I need. Thank you Liz… for making my trip such a pleasure.

bought some soy milk here on 10÷19÷12. went to pour some tonight & it expired 9÷19÷12. what a shame. now I know to triple check exp dates on product purchased here since they are not careful. on second thought, probably won’t be returning to this location.

This is the ghetto Northgate Market. Its #1, the original est. 1980. Old school cool! Not nearly as big and new as the giant one in Buena Park. Sure its tiny with tight aisles, they never have cervesa on sale and maybe ½ the staff speak some English but this is my ace in the hole Mexican market. It’s bailed me out of a few shortcomings in my cooking excursions over the years. I got my first ever prepared carne flap steak here like 28 years ago in 1984 for a party and it became infamous amongst my peers back in the day. I was like a celebrity chef after I turned my friends on to my homemade(wink-wink) tacos. I used to run to NG to get a couple of Modelos, Coronas, Tecates or the like when eating at Taco Boy across the street… perfect pairing. I even met a girl friend here… didn’t last long… she hated Mexican food… Ironic. But I love this place for many reasons. Its close to home. Short lines. I got a history here. Nice people work here. Ok prices on most stuff. Meat: Love the prepared meats carne, pollo. Always fresh because they are small and have to turn them over quick. They will cut /trim your meats any way you want them. The fresh pork rinds kick ass with some lime and tapatillo. Had some good ceveche from here and also have got some pretty good cooked carnitas too. Tortillas: Many variety and sizes, Northgate’s store brand are always fresh(used to be made right next door) and I dig the small corn ones perfect for my street tacos. Also have fresh masa. Veggies: Small section but always have everything I’m looking for when I’m cooking south of the border. Lots of hot peppers from Anaheim for stuffing with cheese to habaneros that will make you cry! Other stuff: The NG salsas are not half bad and the avocado salsa is super on carnitas or a salad or atop of some seafood. Usual staple stuff if you need something in a pinch. Pretty good Mexican spice selection. It ain’t the nicest, the cleanest, or most trendy market around but I have a soft spot for this place in my heart.

This is a teeny tiny Northgate market. I mean you can walk from one end to the other in less than 30 seconds. For the ADD shopper that constantly forgets things, this will mean less walking around, haha. It seems that they only stock up on the essentials, because I couldn’t find some of the more specialized stuff there. I understand though, with the small space, it would make sense they only carry the more important stuff. A small, cute Northgate market but I think I prefer the big spacious ones with more variety and more obscure stuff.

This is a nice option instead of going to to the larger/busier store on La Palma. The choice are almost equal just much more smaller in size
