What a charming restaurant hidden in a mediocre neighborhood. Great food at reasonable prices! Excellent mushroom soup, eggplant dip and a tender, perfectly prepared pepper steak. Will be back!!!

I have reviewed this restaurant before but my review seems to have dropped off. This is still our favorite place to go for special occasions. Although the location is not the greatest, the inside is nice. In addition the food is superb and very reasonably priced. They now have duck and rabbit. Their lamb chops are the best i have ever had. I also highly recommend the French onion soup and the clam chowder. An okay selection of wines but all of their desserts are fabulous

Unilocalers, you’ve done me wrong! 2 stars for the app and salads being tasty. The Foie Gras app was WAAAYY overpriced at $ 30 and, unfortunately, the rest of our Mother’s Day dinner was sub-par. Timing and communication of the service was completely awkward and wacky… apps before wine, entrees before we had finished our salads. The servers didn’t seem to be able to identify the orders, or which tables they were going to — we were once offered Coq au Vin(which we didn’t order) and the server thought it was duck. We were also offered an order of fries that weren’t ours. The restaurant was out of the bottle of rosé that we ordered and our server didn’t seem familiar with the wine list when we inquired about the Chardonnay options… Bit of a comedy of errors to this point; but, the food was good, so we forged on. Then came our entrees… duck breast. Let’s just say, not the best duck I’ve ever had. Little tough, lot gristly. We each ate about half and gave up. To their credit, they took one off the bill. Overall the experience felt very rushed. They inquired about our dessert order almost immediately after setting our entrees down, claiming the cobbler and chocolate soufflé take 20 mins to bake. It’s ok, I’ll think about dessert once I’m done with my dinner. And, I’m an adult, if my chosen dessert takes 20 minutes, I can wait for it. We were l seeking a leisurely, comfortable dining experience and to our disappointment, got mediocre food and rushed service. Likely won’t be back.

I took my mom here tonight to celebrate Mother’s Day and we were disappointed. The menu, pictures and Unilocal reviews all looked great so we were looking forward to finding a new local restaurant for some good French food. The service was good and our server was very nice. We each had 1 glass of wine, both were good and reasonably priced. We shared a bowl of lobster bisque, which was good but not great. We both ordered the lamb chops, but then my mom sent it back and got the sand dabs instead. The lamb chops were not great, they were chewy and covered with Raz el Hanout, which is a Moroccan spice. It tasted much more middle eastern than French. The sand dabs were not great either. The fish tasted fishy and did not seem high quality. The atmosphere is nice and quaint, but unfortunately we won’t be back.

You know, for our needs and expectations, it was a five! We had a delightful, unhurried evening, that was very much in the French bistro style. We were old friends having a visit, with a number of courses and glasses of wine and it was lovely. The food was wonderful and my friends told me the wine was very good. This should be a go to place, for a little something special.

Bistro Bleu is great. Pre fixe with FOUR courses for $ 36?! Pretty darn good considering the service and quality of food. The escargot is different than any I’ve ever had – I’m no expert, but it seemed to be more red wine based rather than garlic oil/butter based. It was great! The French onion soup is one of the best I’ve ever had, and so filling that as the second course, I could barely touch my main course and dessert. The coq au vin was extraordinary, but I boxed its entirety and brought it home since I was so stuffed. The crème brûlée was also delicious, and I tried my best to make a dent in it. I went on March 24th and there was only one waiter waiting on the whole restaurant. That wasn’t an issue though, because he was really on his game! He also gave us a discount on some of the wine! What a guy!

What a hidden gem! Excellent French bistro fare at a reasonable price. Everything we tried was delicious: escargots, pâté du maison, tiger shrimp risotto, French onion soup, steak frites, lamb chops, braised rabbit(perhaps the best rabbit dish I’ve ever had), and a saffron mahi mahi special. The chocolate soufflé was the perfect note on which to end our scrumptious meal. The only downsides were service and pacing. The restaurant, though small, was packed on a Saturday night, and there were only two servers who had trouble keeping up with the demand. We also had to wait a little too long between courses. But overall, I would highly recommend Bistro Bleu for a lovely French dinner. I only wish we lived closer so we could frequent it more!

I came here with my gf for the first time. Food was terrific. We had the risotto and lobster bisque, both were perfectly prepared. For entrees, we had the seafood pasta and poached salmon, both were exceptional. Overall, very good food and service while at reasonable prices. Would definitely come back.

I have no idea what is happening w/their food or service, but lately it’s been a hit or miss. Flavorless moules in a watery tasteless broth with raw garlic chunks, frites weren’t even hot. Very spicy, inedible soup; when asked before ordering the waitress said«it’s not very spicy», saw we didn’t eat it yet never asked why; just cleared our table for entrees(which weren’t all that good). Fresh bread one visit, stale & chewy another. Fresh salad greens last time, this time had to send salad back due to its earth tone brown shades! Yuck Forget the Chocolate Soufflé, it is devoid of any chocolate flavor & the un-chocolate sauce offered with it, is runny, murky & has less flavor than nestle quick chocolate drink that kids drink. Service has gone downhill lately too. It feels more like Costco/Home Depot disaster than that of a restaurant. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing & the staff just walks around in circles. Forget a dining experience with such a staff, and by staff I mean 2 spaced out people. Waiters are counting on the food to bring in the tips but service is part of the experience too, besides the food quality is inconsistent so fuggetaboutit! It’s very sad but we are taking a break & recommending the same for our friends. Dine at your own risk!

This really is as good as it gets. Since it’s a small hole in the wall, there’s only one server and she’s Wonderful. So polite and so friendly. They have a weekly appetizer and a weekly entrée special. The ambiance is soft and quaint with French music playing and French photos under each glass tabletop. It is definitely an experience I enjoy. HIGHLYRECOMMEND.

Last night was our 2nd time here in about 2 months. It is in a funky dilapidated little shopping plaza in West Anaheim. Overall it is cozy once you go inside and is a pretty much a typical French style bistro. The thing we liked is the prices are in line with the food and wine offerings. Nothing too fancy or pretentious and will not break the bank. The wine pours are very generous. The home made pâté is excellent for a starter. The rabbit is very good and the moules was great as well. Really love that garlic, wine, and shallot broth that the moules are cooked in. My wife says she could drink that all day long with a big boba straw… LOL! My wife has tried both the French onion soup and the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque gets the nod and is one of the better ones we have had. I found out that the chef /owner is the old executive chef from the Cellar in Fullerton from about 10 years ago. What would really knock this out of the ballpark for me is if they added a Lyonnaise salad with a poached duck egg and lardons on the menu. I miss this salad and can only get it at Bouchon in Santa Barbara We are looking forward to returning again and trying something different. I wish this place was in North Huntington Beach.

Well worth the wait! Make a reservation prior to coming. This place can get packed on Fridays. We came in around 7:00 pm on a Friday and waited 10 minutes. It wasn’t a big deal at all, but I’ll make a reservation next time. We started off with the lobster bisque and escargot. I’ll give a 5 on the bisque(do yourself a favor and order it!) and a 4 for the escargot only because we are huge garlic fans and it was a little mild on the garlic. Still great, however. We waited about 30 minutes for our Main course which we ordered the shrimp, scallops and muscles with angel hair pasta and the rack of lamb with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were pleasantly tasty and id rate both dishes a 4 out of 5. This restaurant is like a little get away and you’ll forget you are in Anaheim. This place better stay open!

I have always been a fan of french food after traveling all throughout France. I have been missing it so much since then. Finally after many years I found a place that takes me straight back to France. The location is in Anaheim on the corner of Ball and Magnolia. It’s next to a florist and a Zumba place. At first I thought this place was going to be bad because it looked like a hole in the wall type joint. Stepping inside the hostess greated us immediately and we were seated in the dining room. It wasn’t crowded which I enjoyed. I hate waiting in line for things especially when I’m hungry. Th décor was cute with French news papers on the table and little pictures and novelties that reminded me of France. The service was good especially since there were about 14 or 16 people in the restaurant and only one person to help us all. She did a good job, so I can’t complain. The food was excellent. We did some tasters to see how well and authentic did they cook their food. They did not disappoint us. The presentation was beautiful. The flavors were all there. And the lobster bisque was just to die for. I enjoyed the mussels and french fries the most. The cremyness of the white wine sauce was perfection. For my entrée I had the seafood pasta which was exactly what I wanted. It wasn’t on the heavy side and didn’t leave me in a food coma. It was just enough to leave room for dessert. All the ingredients tasted fresh and delicious. Dessert was just as amazing as everything else. The presentation was beautiful. I would recommend this place to anyone that would like an authentic french meal. It’s cozy and delicious. Perfect for a casual date.

Came here for Mother’s Day and I wasn’t impressed. This restaurant is located in a strip mall, looks kind of sketchy but the décor inside isn’t as bad. I was hoping this would be a hidden gem. Moving onto the food… I wasn’t happy with what we ordered. Appetizer/soup: tiger shrimp, crab cake mushroom, French onion soup and lobster bisque. Wasn’t a fan of the French onion soup. My fave was the crab cake mushroom. It was soooo good! Main Course: eggs Benedict and thick cut ham with purée sweet potato. Fiancé said his eggs Benedict wasn’t anything special. My dish wasn’t what I expected either. I wasn’t liking the thick cut ham. The pairing of the sides did not go well together, in my opinion. It must have been what I ordered. Dessert: crème brûlée and chocolate soufflé. The crème brûlée was the highlight of the meal. Although I wish the alcohol would have burned off more. The soufflé wasn’t sweet enough but very rich. Despite my not so positive experience, I would like to give it a second try. I think it might have been the Mother’s Day menu. I want to come back and try their daily menu.

My sister raved about this place in her review so I wanted to give it a try. Our service was excellent. I made a reservation to come here on my one year anniversary. We got free complimentary appetizer which was the egg like salad in a egg shell which was delicious and the bread was nice, soft, and warm. Our appetizer we had the parfait de foie de volailles which was duck liver terrine aka duck pâté. It was delicious and a very large portion. They even offered us more toast when we had pâté left over. I had the les cotelettes d’agneau the marinated lamb chops which tasted okay not that great. It was kind of burnt tasted and was pretty salty after a few bites. My boyfriend coq au vin was pretty salty too. His butter pasta tasted fine though. For dessert, we had the chocolate soufflé that everyone raves about. They pour their chocolate sauce and put the cream on top. I didn’t like how it made the soufflé taste very heavy. It didn’t taste light and airy I’m not sure if that’s how it’s suppose to taste. I’m not sure if we went on a off day maybe I’ll give this restaurant another try in the future but I wasn’t a fan. The Unilocal check-in where you buy two drinks and buy one entrée get a entrée free was a amazing deal though.

Regina is by far one of the best servers I’ve ever had. Additionally, this is my 3rd time coming here in the past week. My boyfriend and I tried lunch one day, double dated the next with his sister and husband and went again tonight. So we’ve tried 8 entrées, 3 appetizers, 2 desserts and one of the champagne drinks. Go, go now and throughly enjoy yourself. The food is amazing, the music complements the setting and the service is exceptional. Try the chocolate soufflé, the duck, the chicken, the salmon, the steak and lamb. Or just do like we are and eat your way through the menu.

This place has some pretty awesome French food. Everything that was recommended on Unilocal was delicious! We got the steak frites, the escargot, and the duck. The escargot was some of the best I’ve ever had. Everyone at the table basically fought for more. The desserts were just as wonderful. The soufflé wasn’t anything like I expected but it was still delicious. It wasn’t overly sweet or powerful but had those subtle flavors that just made it perfect. The crème brûlée was also delicious, it came out on fire! The only bad parts about this place is that the parking lot isn’t very big and the service makes me feel like all the stereotypes of the French are true.

Dining here may be the closest I’ll ever get to eating in France. Being the proud father of three young kids, my traveling adventures are typically limited to Chuck E. Cheese and Disneyland. The French Laundry couldn’t be further away, but closer by is a little pearl known as Bistro Bleu. Upon entering, you will notice the quaint décor. As might be expected, the primary color is blue – from the walls to decorations – and everything in between. Charming table displays, stained glass, and authentic collectibles boost the intimate, inviting ambiance. If you sit at the counter, you will be accompanied by some fishy friends. Gina was our server. She was attentive, welcoming, and knowledgable. When we asked her what was good, she replied, «the chef’s specialties are the duck, chicken, and lamb. They are also three classic, French dishes.» Without hesitation, we divvyed up who would get the duck, chicken, and lamb. We would share as a group. I ended up with the lamb. We wet our beaks with two appetizers. I’ve never had escargo, so what better way than to dive right in. Les Escargots À La Provençal: escargots slow cooked in garlic, white wine, tomatoes, and mushrooms — People say that snails have a similar texture to mushrooms. I would say they are right. When I bit into the escargot, I tasted a salty, distinct, almost briny flavor that I’ve never tasted before. They indeed tasted like mushrooms – I would describe them as mushrooms on drugs. Parfait De Foie De Volailles: Chef David’s smooth duck liver terrine prepared with mushroom duxelles and truffle oil. Served with Tapanade, cornichons, and toast — I couldn’t get enough of this dish. All of the elements arrived on a small wooden board. It was a gorgeous presentation. The consistency was a little thicker than peanut butter. It spread on the bread with slightly more force than you would use for spreading peanut butter. The taste was rich, fatty, and guilty. The accompanying items served to provide a textural contrast as well as sour and bitter flavors to offset the richness of the duck terrine. I loved it! Next came the main courses. Les Côtelettes D’Angeau: marinated lamb chops off the grill with a fresh rosemary/red wine sauce and whipped potatoes — this came with four, beautiful lamb chops. I seriously wanted to lick the plate when I was done. The entire dish – lamb, veggies, potatoes, and especially the sauce – was to die for. The lamb was a perfect medium, tender, and flavorful, and almost tasted more like beef. There was no gaminess whatsoever. The sauce was absolutely impeccable, and perfectly complimented the lamb. Coq Au Vin: classic braised chicken in red wine, bacon, mushrooms, pearl onions, and buttered pasta — people usually describe ribs as «fall off the bone.» Well, this chicken was indeed fall off the bone scrumptious. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and delightful all come to mind when thinking about the bites I took. The chef displayed a delicate hand in both presentation and taste. Bravo – another perfectly executed dish. Once again, I wanted to lick up the amazing sauce. Supreme De Canard A L’Orange: Oven roasted breast of duck with a classic orange demi-glacé, fresh vegetables and whipped potatoes — the chef hit three home runs with these three entrees. The duck was tender, and the skin was beautifully crisped. In combination it was like a bite of paradise. Upon entering my mouth, I was immediately whisked away to the French Riviera(I wish). Again, the orange demi-glacé was plate-licking good. We ended with two desserts. Make sure to tell your server in advance if you plan to order the chocolate soufflé, because it takes 25 minutes. Hot Belgium Chocolate Soufflé with dark chocolate sauce and Chantilly — I’ve had a few soufflés recently, and I guess they’re just not my thing. This contained a mild chocolate flavor that I didn’t care for. Classic Crème Brûlée with fresh fruit — this was excellent. The strawberries were ripe and sweet, which complimented the richness of the crème brûlée. The only small error was that it was over torched. Don’t forget to checkin to receive $ 12 off an entrée, as long as you purchase two beverages. I’m in a phase of my eating career where I want to train my palate and improve my senses. I’ve been consumed by a desire to devour Japanese cuisine and steakhouses lately. I don’t know why I haven’t been interested in French cuisine before. I was glad to step out of my comfort zone and appreciate something unexplored. If ever the phrase«you eat with your eyes first» applied to a meal, this was it. The presentation throughout the course of the meal was classy and stunning. Overall I would describe this meal as celestial, brilliant, and memorable. I was captivated by intense, tongue-tingling flavors and immaculate, professional execution. Bön Appétit!
