When in a hurry or supplementing for home cooked items I love to grab certain items from Omaha Steaks. My preferred items are: Pot Roast, Filets, Dog Treats, and Tortilla crusted tilapia. Since I CAN cook, I don’t bother with their sides or appetizers as it seems too expensive to bother but I have tried a few and they are delish. I also appreciate that there are recipes provided for cuts of meat purchased.

This is a small storefront on Transit just down from Five Guys. I wandered in one day to check it out. We have used Omaha in the past as it’s easy to have something in the freezer from them. But I’d never been able to see the food before buying it. So that’s terrific. When I mentioned we were familiar with the mail order the manager said they would match on-line prices and of course we would save on shipping — not relevant for me as I always waited for a «free shipping day» with them, but a very valid point. Buy here and save on shipping, carry the food home with you and eat it tonight if you desire. The store is basically large freezers from top to bottom and front to back. Well marked it’s pretty easy to see everything. I decided to give them a try. Found some things we were interested in on-line and the prices that day(always wait for a coupon or sale day if you can). I sent the list with prices to myself and off I went. They were indeed willing to match the online price without issue. But only for what they had in the store. While they carry 90% of online, some things may not be there. Just be aware of that. I agree with Lindsay on the packaging issues they have(store and mail order). Like Trader Joes everything is wrapped and wrapped again. Now the boxes it all comes in are terrific and we reuse the boxes, we also break them down and cut out pieces of cardboard for various projects and other uses, but they do have a lot of packaging. Also like Lindsay we have not done the potatoes or other veges, easy to make at home ourselves. But we enjoy the filet on occasion and since they now do seafood we have greatly enjoyed some of the fish options. The fish comes as filets you can season etc, or as preseasoned which you then bake. Both have been well received. We have not done any of the crab or lobster types, just some tuna filets and tilapia options. The meats — filets are quite good and great to keep on hand in the freezer. The flat iron steak is a fav here. But the real love is, oddly enough, one of the prepared pork chops(Polynesian). Super easy«go to» we keep in the freezer. We have gotten some free desserts from them(birthdays get you gifts), and surprisingly they are good. And many are in small serving sizes and individually wrapped(yep, more wrapping) so you can use one at a time. Perfect! Key Lime Tartlets are very tasty. As are the berry tartlets. And the chocolate molten lava cakelets(yes, new word, but descriptive, no?) have been a great success. While you can indeed find all of the filets locally, often same quality, these are easy to have on hand in the freezer. The prepared fishes and meats are easy to cook on demand as well, and while we have tried many local options for those types of things we often prefer Omaha options. Desserts are pretty much going to be better when made that day at a local bakery, however these are super easy to have in the freezer and they are VERY cost effective if you wait for a coupon, and there’s always a coupon. While I would not use these for a special occasion, I’m often happy to have a few on hand. Easy parking and very nice staff here. This is not a franchise, which is why they can match the prices to whatever is on-line that day. While I would prefer it be locally owned on one hand, the employees are excited to work here and very knowledgeable, and they live locally of course.

Omaha Steaks has a brand new store in Williamsville, next to Red Mango and Five Guys. Seeing this company advertised all the time in print ads, on TV, etc. I thought the meat from here would be really great. I’ve gotta say, we are lucky here in WNY that we have good grocery stores with good meat departments. The steaks from here were really nothing special. I’ve had better sirloin from both Tops and Wegman’s… And even Target and Walmart meat departments too! I also think that everything at this store is super expensive and though they tell you they have 40% off or whatever, the stuff is still expensive. Plus, I’m a big proponent of not eating processed foods when there is a homemade alternative possible. Potatoes in any form aren’t hard to make so why buy frozen, fried, potato balls? Just my opinion. Also, I have huge issue with all of the packaging. Love the vacuum sealed plastic but all of that really pristine cardboard boxing the product? SUCH A WASTE. I plunked the cardboard in my recycling bin(and there was a lot since we bought a whole package of different meats) but thought to myself why was all of that premium cardboard even necessary? Probably won’t buy from here again.
