My boyfriend and I had a great meal from here this summer. We sat at the outside tables which are nice to the find in Amherst. The only downside was that they were out a few menu items(the ones we wanted) Regardless, it was a fantastic lunch. It’s what I imagine when I think of authentic food. I had an amazing shrimp enchilada, and the margaritas were great(and strong!) great bang for your buck too. Would go back any day.

The food it’s not good and the customer service was terrible. My order came with the wrong sauce and I asked them to re-do it, they simple scrape the top off and put another sauce on top of the wrong sauce. Are you serious people?

I stopped in at 9:10pm and they weren’t serving food. Website says they are open until 10. Oh well.

La Veracruzana is a great stop for authentic Mexican grub. The nachos(aka chips) are fresh with a nice assortment of salsa to choose from. I recommend starting with the fish tacos before being adventurous with the menu. The staff are friendly. Aside from the occasional lack of seating available, I recommend stopping by for a visit.

I think if you read most of the reviews here you’re going to see they were awhile back. Something must have changed 3 or 4 months ago. Why you ask? Becuase this place was awesome. If you are looking for anything more than a hole in the wall then you don’t belong here. This is the as good as it gets when it comes to Mexican food. Fish Tacos were so good I could have eaten 40 of them. The sauce was so close to mine that I thought someone had given out my secret recipe. My hat’s off to you VM. Great job. Margarita’s were a bit sour, but that’s alright. It’s not a full on bar. If you expect full service, don’t come here. You order and wait. Simple as that. If you go anywhere you will miss them yelling your name. The place was packed on our visit and it goes to show you they have it going on. As a native Californian and a connoisseur of Mexican cuisine. This is one of the best you’re going to find around here. Finally someone that uses 2 tortillas for tacos. House made chips and guac really good. Although the guac needs some tweaking. Not that great. I can’t wait to get back up this way and try some other dishes.

The setup is off putting. There are no servers. You place your order at the register. When your order is up they place the food on a counter and yell out the name of the item. If you don’t hear them or have the same order as someone else, good luck to you. The last time we went will probably be the very last time. The young woman at the cash register appeared to be pissed at us personally for entering the restaurant and giving them money. I can’t remember the last time someone was that hostile and rude. If you don’t care about service. At all. Then you might enjoy it, the food is alright. If you are looking for good Mexican food then head down the road to Mission Cantina.

Though the atmosphere isn’t the same as Mission Cantina, their service, staff, and salsas are much better. I have to recommend the beef tongue tacos. Delicious!

The burrito especial is where it’s at. The steak is a great cut and grilled perfectly. Their chips are fresh as is the salsas. I can’t fathom why people like bueno over this place but more seating for me I guess.

Their chips and guac are the best I’ve had in the valley. Their burritos are quite good, though I think Mission Cantina has them beat. Also, their margaritas are cheap, strong and delicious! Wish the place was a bit bigger and open later.

So yummy and very filling! Their spinach enchiladas are the best. Also have a Margherita because they make it strong and delicious

The food can be excellent, but all aspects of this restaurant are amazingly unclean and dirty. There is dust and grime on nearly all surfaces. Also, the staff is unfriendly and looks depressed.

I came in maybe a little too overly optimistic. This place was described to me as a hole in the wall, and some of the best food comes from holes in the walls, and while this certainly looked like a hole in the wall, Veracruzana is not one of those great hole in the walls. And beware, if you came for boozy margarita to get your summer drank on then you came to the wrong place because the bartender is a blender. This place has probably the slowest service I’ve ever met. I get that it’s one very indifferent and slightly exasperated chick and the register, I get that it’s one very put-upon dude in the tiny kitchen, but I waited 40 minutes for a burrito at 4pm. I’ve never had well put together food here. Tacos have too much cabbage, burritos have too many beans and everything gets soggy quick.

This review is about the Fish Tacos its the only thing I’ve had here, I’m pescatarian so I don’t eat meat. Great Fish Tacos the sauce that they use on it is divine. :) the fish has always been fresh, not«fishy» like other places I’ve experienced. The margaritas are great here too. Great tasting & just strong enough, I got a nice lil’ buzz. Love the location since I live right in Amherst. Great Mexican place

I’ve never left a Unilocal review from a location before, but La Veracruzana is so bad I felt the need to. Flavorless, expensive, staff was rude. This place is almost always empty, and for good reason.

This is a really good place. I like the food a lot, it’s not too expensive either. I recommend it. I always get enchiladas, and they’re always extremely just perfect and amazing. I definitely recommend this place! Totally worth your time.

We ordered take-out from La Veracruzana this past Thursday and were disappointed. We only ate half of i what a disappointment because it looks like the kinda place that would be a hidden gem but is not! We ordered the fish taco’s they were so dry(how dry?) that we choked, both of us and needed H2O to get through them. The cabbage was annoyingly raw, like R A W, no sauce nothing… the fish was fried to death like a piece crispy leather and had a bitter taste(probably old oil). The two burrito’s we got were filled with way too much rice and lacked flavor. I had to pull out the seasoning’s at home and reheat them to get make them palatable. Much better choices in the area…

What wonderful Mexican! Hot sauces galore, prices to match but never exceeding the teens. They make a mean Rack Pescado truly«lightly battered» and with the fresh ocean brine of quality Cod shining through. Veracruzana: just right.

My wife and I have been fans of La Veracruzana since college. When we moved back to the area we were glad to see that it’s still there. I had the Pupusas, which were fresh and I really enjoyed the unique flavors. My wife had the tilapia tacos and devoured them. My daughter is a big fan of tamales, but she prefers the ones which are steamed and a bit drier than the ones made at Veracruzana. For relatively cheap Mexican food, we will be back.

Just moved from Bay Area, CA. Do I need to say more? Maybe this one is as good as it gets in this area for autentica. Nopales? Pupusas? Thank you! Ain’t nobody heard of this stuff back here in NE. I agree, B&S may be Sano but not quite so Bueno. So 3, maybe 4 stars.
