What a great place in Amherst. Like everyone else here, it’s the home of the amazing Popover. Service was great, food was amazing, and you are created with a warm welcome. Lots of cute college kids so as you wait for your food to arrive, there is plenty of eye-candy to keep you occupied. This place does have a full bar so eat your heart out and enjoy the experience.

The food is extremely good and HUGE portions. Some of the best food in Amherst. I last had the steak and mushroom risotto. Very unique yet irresistible flavor. Definitely a must have

It’s a rare event in our lives to be treated so insensitively by a restaurant. We were in town for the day to see the Natural History Museum at Amherst College. We thought Judie’s would be a nice place for all three of us to eat, but the front of house manager told me that my Autistic son would not be allowed to order from the kid’s menu because the cut off age is 9. The menu is full of interesting choices, but sadly, my son only likes plain food that suits most small children, and we have never encountered a restaurant anywhere that wouldn’t cater to his food sensitivities. Shame on you, Judie’s. Shame on your staff.

This is my favorite restaurant to go to when visiting our kids at UMass! Amazing selection of food and I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve had there. Service has always been great as well.

Popovers were barely still warm and over cooked. Hamburger was supposed to be med rare and came well done. When reported to the waitress she said sorry and that was it. After talking to the manager they took off half the hamburger. Really? It was so bad only half was eaten. Something has changed there. Used to be much better.

Yum! This is a bit pricey for the college student but a MUSTTRY when your family is in town. Food is always fresh and delicious. Must try a popover!

I have never had such a delicious popover! I have to say that I am not a fan of popovers as I find them dry and uneventful BUT Judie’s has turned me around. I decided to have the turkey dinner popover… mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy and cranberry sauce. Absolutely delicious! No words to describe the Thanksgiving meal served in a popover. The serving size is more than plentiful. As soon as it was set down in front of me, I divided my plate in half. Half was to be eaten and the other half was to be taken home. I could barely finish half for dinner! The wait staff was wonderful. We got a little lesson on popovers and decided we needed to take some home for dessert. Filled with some ice cream and hot fudge… yum!

I have no idea how this place is in business much less famous among UMass alumni. They serve the same food as Applebee’s. So many better restaurants in Amherst.

I recently had another delicious lunch at Judie’s with a friend. This was my second time visiting this signature Amherst restaurant. I ordered the baked onion soup and the power salad. Both were absolutely delicious. The power salad is the best raw kale salad I’ve ever eaten. I was particularly fond of the sriracha flavored sunflower seeds and the two falafel in my salad. Judie’s impressed me yet again. I will definitely visit again when I’m in town because their food is THAT good!

So as I had stated in my previous review, if I was ever in the area, I would definitely come back, and I did! I spent Halloween weekend in Amherst with some friends and before going home I had to make a pit stop here! I got the same thing as before and it was just as delicious as I remember! that apple butter, yum! however, our waitress was rarely around again and for a Sunday afternoon it wasn’t too busy but we still couldn’t find her!

Went to Judie’s on a day trip up to Amherst. The food was much better than I had remembered. Judie herself was working and came by our table to chat with all of us. Overall great vibes and customer service. Fresh food, can’t ask for more!

Staying in business for over 30 years is easy to imagine once you eat ANYTHING! From the apps to the popover meals — you won’t be sorry. Look for Judy who is always on the move greeting, clearing, even refilling your drinks. Great atmosphere and if you can, sit up near the windows and watch Amherst pass you by.

Second time dining here… Both experience were mediocre. Last night our party of four were greeted professionally and promptly seated. My wife’s shrimp scampi was way over loaded with raw garlic and very dry and did not resemble anything that looked like traditional shrimp scampi. They were very nice about sending it back but insisted on charging us for the pop over. Fine I guess. I ordered the beef tips pop over, exceedingly dry and lacking flavor. You can tell the meat had been sitting… It was pre-cooked. Very tough! And a dish like this you want it to be more savory, obviously they used frozen peas and corn in the dish making it very institutional. I next time we are in Amherst we will seek out another location.

Been looking to try this place for a while now. All the reviews seem to be positive. My co-worker and I stopped in for lunch on Friday. There was only a handful of tables. Very eclectic décor to say the least. We ordered the bruschetta to start. I always hesitate to order bruschetta in New England. For whatever reason, people think that throwing tomatoes and herbs on top of cheesy bread equals bruschetta. Just an FYI-it doesn’t. Anyway, the«bruschetta» was good. The tomato mix on the side was well seasoned but a tad too sweet. My main was the guacamole sandwich. While good in theory, the sandwich was an oily, jumbled mess of things. The guac was under seasoned(a little salt goes a long way) and the bacon was clearly made hours or even the day before. Also the combo of mayo AND guac made this sandwich soggy and fall apart within moments of being picked up. My coworkers salad was good he said, but it’s difficult to mess up field greens and grilled chicken. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible experience. Next time I’d certainly get something different. The whole popover thing doesn’t interest me, regardless of that being what this restaurant is known for. Too kitschy.

went with a friend for lunch. They were very busy so it took about 10 min to get a seat. The popover everyone seems to rave about was ‘ok’ nothing to write home about. The outside was almost burnt. My salad on the other hand was awesome. I got the chicken bacon guacamole salad. Huge portion for $ 14. The service was much to be desired. Our server was very friendly but not very attentive. Took my friend and I well over 11⁄2 hours for lunch. Way too long for what we ordered. We each got a salad and split a popover. Loved the art and the eclectic vibe of the restaurant. Would definitely try it again but only if service improves.

Judie’s and I go way back. Like #TBT back. Picture me reaching into my blue Jansport backpack, having to push aside a copy of a Delia’s catalog to find my wallet. I used to use the pay phone down the street after eating here to call my mom, cause no one had cell phones. That’s just to say, I’ve eaten at Judie’s a million times, and rarely, if ever, had a bad meal. I have so many good memories here, all of which are surrounded by good food and great people! Judie’s is an Amherst staple, and I love it! The service has varied over the years, but in general the waitstaff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The menu hasn’t changed much in the last 10+ years, there are more options, but the staples remain unchanged — and for good reason. Seriously, order a popover! If you’ve never had one drown the gooey insides in apple butter, close your eyes and you’ll have a better understanding of why New Englanders like fall. I will admit that the food can be a bit pricey — the ingredients are fresh and the food is great, but I have questioned myself as to why a salad and a popover can be over $ 12. BUT I repeat, it’s worth it. Judie’s will always be a great place for parents to take their children the night before they drop them off at the college dorms, or for graduation dinner. I will always think of Judie’s when I remember my high school years and now when I am back to visit. The recent expansion has made for more seating, shorter wait times, and the food still arrives hot, fresh and delicious!

Showed up right when they opened. There were a few people waiting yet dozens of tables. Apparently they didn’t have a greeter so it took a while to get seated surprisingly. Everyone was very friendly but I couldn’t tell which made me vomit more, the food or the artwork. All of my friends got different popovers and all of us were disappointed. We were visiting a friend in the area and he kept apologizing for taking us there. At least we were able to laugh at how bad the artwork was :/

So excited to come back to Amherst for Judi’s popovers! ! I’ve craved popovers ever since my visit last year! I had to get the chicken pesto again. So hot & tasty! My daughter got the popover sundae. It was to die for! Portions are huge so bring your appetite or doggy bag!

Dinner tonight was decided by the popover. I would have walked by Judie’s every night but I would have missed out on a fabulous and filling meal. Okay I must say I didn’t read any review and actually planned to try the Persian joint in town but the grad student I’m working for this week told me a tale of a giant light fluffy popover and I was one way to Judie’s. This is not a place for the single diner I was the only one person table in the joint. In retrospect I should have eaten at the bar but the giant ridiculous red neon sign over the bar scorched my retinas. The price points are crazy no appetizers were under $ 10 bucks. That does not include the $ 4.95 popover which is not an appetizer. Now worries because my meal was so huge it could have fed two. I got the lamb shank and it was excellent served with a weird stuffed potato pancake thing. I asked for a side of roasted veggies too and the meal was complete. Add I. A popover and now it’s way too much. Good thing the popover is hollow. My overall review is nice joint for a date. Get ready for the high prices and a giant plate and a big fluffy popover. FodDude!
