Whataburger is always great but this location is spot on every time. The best burgers and a great staff too, super friendly and read back orders to ensure accuracy. Faster than others in town and tastier too!

I’m not sure if you have to be from Texas, or what, but I have been to a few of these places now and I honestly don’t see the big deal. They are very slow, always, which I don’t mind if the food is great. But the food is not great. Better than McDonalds, yes, as if that’s much of a feat. But I’d take Burger King or Carl’s Jr. any day over Whataburger! The green chile burger is just OK. It’s always lukewarm and soggy when I order it, which is a shame because I love green chile. The breakfast burrito I tried didn’t even classify as a breakfast burrito in any sense of the word. Nacho cheese sauce? Are you serious? The A1 burger is about the only burger that really created any enthusiasm about eating it. But again, soggy. The fries… well, they’re so skinny they don’t stay hot so you get warm(at best) shoestring fries. This location is 24 hrs, and the employees were friendly enough, but going to fast food and waiting 15 minutes when you’re the only vehicle there and then getting a soggy burger is not what I classify as acceptable fast food. Pass on by and head to Arby’s or BK.

Whataburger is a popular fast food restaurant in the south that serves up fast food fare(burgers, etc.) This Whataburger is located on a busy stretch in Amarillo with several other options. This review focuses on my lunch experience driving through. My Overall Rating — 1 Stars(Food) Atmosphere — This is an older Whataburger. Many have been remodeled with new booths & seats, but this one particular location shows its age. My other issue is with the bathrooms. Again, this is a traveler heavy stop, and unfortunately the bathroom wasn’t in that great of shape. It was overdue for a cleaning, but the rest of the restaurant was ok. No Star. Service — I love how Whataburger cooks everything to order, except when they don’t. We had a few challenges in our ordering. First we didn’t receive drinks(milk for kid’s meal & tea for Fajita meal). When we asked for the milks they charged us for it. When we told them it should have been included they said«We should have told them.» No refund offered. Next, we asked for a side salad with a Chicken Fajita, and the staff told us we should make it a meal to get a drink. So we did, but the meal came with fries instead of the salad. Again, they said we should have been specific. Sorry, 0 for 2. No Stars. Food — I’ll always be a fan. I know Californians love In-N-Out(as do I), I will defend Whataburger. There is no secret menu but you can order specialty items(A1 Thick & Hearty). Whataburger uses big buns, makes food as you order. It may be pricier that McDonalds but the quality is better. Stick to the burgers & chicken strips. They excel at that. Pass on anything healthy. But in the grand scheme of things Whataburger is a better option than most fast food chains. 1 Star. Will I Return? — No. Poor Service and an aging facility are not enough to offset my love of their burgers. There are several options along Hwy 289 so looks like I’ll be spreading out my business. No Stars. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.

Best patty melt I’ve ever had. The gal with the sparkly purple eyes who took our order was lovely, and the whole place was really clean!

We had been in the car for about 6 hours and were hungry and wound up stopping here. Crazy as it sounds, we got 5 star service. The staff was friendly, smiling and seemed happy to be at work.
