This is my favorite place for wine & food in Southern Illinois. Hedman’s has my favorite wine on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, and by far the best food. I love low traffic wineries that offer great service and relaxed atmosphere. I feel that, aside from the wine, these things are the end game of any wine trail adventure. My favorites from Hedman’s have to be the Norton and the Traminette. Their Traminette is honestly my favorite White I’ve found since i’ve been into wine. A glass of Traminette & their chicken artichoke and mash is a great way to unwind. I completely attribute my initial interest in wine to the Shawnee Hills Trail, when I was a college student at Southern Illinois University Hedman’s stuck out to me so much that I even chose this as my graduation dinner location. They handled my party of around 12 with ease(even though its a small location) and everyone loved it. At this place tastings are very relaxed, and I really appreciate that after tasting at some more well known & strict vineyards across the country. Keep doing what your doing Hedman’s! You have something special.

Wow, just wow! Discovering this place is like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The red wines were decent, the whites were crisp and flavorful, and the food was incredible! It competes with any five star restaurant I’ve sampled throughout the world, and I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot. My boyfriend and I started with the sausage platter appetizer, which included bison, wild boar, venison and pheasant, two mustards, and red cabbage. It was great! We then tried an amazingly rich and perfectly seasoned lobster bisque before moving on to the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce, mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. Everything was decadent and prepared perfectly. I was literally shocked at the quality of the meal. As for the location itself, it was dark so we couldn’t see much. We sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and pet the friendly cat who hung around our table. The entrance wasn’t very impressive but considering the quality of the food, I’m willing to overlook it and would come back here in a heartbeat. Truly fabulous food and the owner/chef came out to chat and make sure everything was good. It was.

Helpful barmaids were quick to pour samples of their wines. The weinerschitzel is very good most likely due to Finnish influence from the owners. Little warm on the inside but it was also crowded. They grow their own grapes and make their own wine. A worthy stop!

It’s my favorite Southern Illinois wine. The Scandinavian food is amazing, delicious in the afternoon or evening. It is a small, intimate environment that is great for a date or small groups. They have some wonderful four course wine-pairing dinners for special occasions like Mother’s Day and Christmas. I highly recommend it.

Cute little place! Loved the feel — it has some cute little painted touches on the beams, and a lot of Scandinavian merch. Like most Illinois wineries, you’re not here too learn about their wines and sample them, and that’s good, because you’ll probably find the one you can stand the best, buy a bottle, and drink the whole thing at one of the tables.

Of the stops on the Southern IL wine trail, Hedman stands out for its tasty Swedish food! We were greeted right away by the owners and invited inside to taste the wines. It was a warm day and we had several more stops so we decided on the Peach and went outside to sit at a table. If Swedish food makes you think of IKEA, you’re in for a great surprise. The portion of swedish meatballs was large and hearty. The gravy was creamy and the lingonberries tangy. We also ordered the fish au gratin– good, but the real highlight was the cheddar mashed potatoes! They were creamy, cheesy, and just a little crispy on top. If you’re out on the wine trail, make sure to stop by here for a meal! Even if you’re not a wine drinker, Hedman’s is well worth a stop for some fine food.

For the most part this is a vinyard and orchard with various fruits used to produce some very delicious wine creations. There is also a restaurant where some amazing culinary preparations are served up. Once a month they have a four course meal designed to be paired with their wines for a fixed price. In addition to these facilities they also have a two room suite– bed and breakfast that is absolutely fantastic, this is where I stayed for an extended weekend at the beginning of Nov. ’06. There are two large rooms: one sitting room with a tv and dvd player(as well as cable). The bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed, and not to far off an enormous jacuzzi tub. To give you an idea, I’m 6′ 2″ and fit more than comfortably in this thing, with room to spare. In the morning the owners prepare and deliver quite the delicious breakfast spread. I stayed here the same weekend they were having this dinner option so we went into bloomington one evening for dinner. Being the only people being taken care of by the Hedman’s was amazing. They will personalize everything you want. I had them prepare a cheese tray, a couple of flower bouquets, and put out a couple of bottles of wine… all of which was absolutely fantastic. The cost of this weekend away was so reasonable I couldn’t believe it. I love this place
