For the area, it’s needed, this is a step in the right direction. The food is creative and thoughtful. The quality is quite there yet. The vibe is mixed. A bar with amazing bar food or a upper end restaurant with not upper end food. The cocktails were a sore attempt. The descriptions were great, the execution needs work. It’s amazing for the area, but it needs just a little bit more love in the food to make it great. The staff was great, the décor: amazing. Perfect place to go for your salmon fishing excursion. Enjoy!

Dinner for 3 adults was a nice dinning experience. The service & food were excellent. The waitress was knowledgable & attentive. We went on a Saturday evening, the dinning room was busy. Prime rib, the special was very good, Brussel sprouts would have been better if cooked a little longer.

Did a overnight trip, rooms we’re great. Employees were friendly and helpful. Food at dinner was not very tasty, I had the fisherman platter which tasted like tomato paste was poured over it. My husband had the trio plate. I tasted the chicken and again I thought it tasted like tomato paste.

The décor is very nice and the staff was pleasant but the food was another story. To start I do not mind paying for a quality meal. I ordered the special steamed clams to start and they were overcooked. My special entrée was duck breast. It had a weird fruit jam sauce and it was served with a half plate of cooked frozen fries. These are the same ones my wife gets at the near by Aldi. No fresh vegetable just a scoop of what looked to be old cole slaw. My wife had the fisherman’s platter(fried), large portion but the seafood was not seasoned and once again no fresh veg just old corn/rice mix of something. The cocktail sauce with her meal was jellotized? Both plates were $ 29.00 each. I was really hoping for much more! and disappointed because being local in the area options are limited. Just a suggestion pick up some fresh asparagus from any of the local Amish stands and add to the menu when in season.

We went back again for our third visit and, much to my dismay, they had completely changed their menu. Gone was the delicious tri-tip and lodge potatoes. The waitress said that they tend to switch it up a little bit every season. This visit I tried the chicken and shrimp penne with artichoke hearts and it was a little disappointing. The new England clam chowder had a spice and I couldn’t identify and it was a little weird. Flatbread pizza appetizer was pretty good with chicken and bacon. We probably won’t be back in the season but will try again in the winter hopefully they’ll have tri-tip back on the menu by then.

So the hotel itself is the best in the area. The restaurant on the other hand is a whole different story. We ate there two nights and both my meals were not even average. Stay away from the fried chicken unless your old and don’t like flavor. The servers were great and a breath of fresh air. Going back this fall to salmon fishing and I’ll give it another shot

The Tailwater Lodge is a hidden gem in the Tug Hill. The restaurant is modern and clean. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It is comfortably handicapped accessible. The seafood was excellent. Not overly fried or grease laden. The small steak was done as per our request. Rare. It was tender and flavorful. It is almost like being on vacation. Right here for us locals! Good atmosphere and good food! Bravo!

Bar and wait staff excellent. Food was average to good. We enjoyed our appetizers … Wings and crab fritters. Entrees were good not great. I think I would stick with burgers and apps in the future. Overall nice experience. Décor is beautiful and CLEAN… Spotless!

Awesome food, best in Altmar or Pulaski. Lodge is exceptionally beautiful and staff is top notch. Woodshed is great place to pickup fishing gear and apparel too!
