I AMSOSADTHATTHISPLACECLOSED. solid sushi, interesting cambodian dishes that are not very common in boston, really really moderate prices, friendly service, location, etc. i came here at least once a month, and got take out pretty frequently. so sad that it’s gone. probably the best sushi in allston, so now i’m probably gunna go to genki ya or fugakyu to get comparable quality. booo.

When you’re a poor ass college student and need to impress that special lady, the lunch special is where it’s at. $ 8.95 for a three course lunch and thai iced tea! The food’s decent enough that she won’t even think you’re trying to scrape by on the cheap. You may even score brownie points. The Tom Yum Gai soup is recommended, but only if your date is comfortable with spice induced sniffles. That’s some spicy soup!

Very homey pan-Asian cuisine. Went here on a Friday with two friends. We were one of just three groups in the whole place(15+ tables), which drove me nuts. Sometimes I love the extra attention, but on a Friday night I need ambient noise to mask all of my rude jokes. Food was good; started with sushi appetizers. The fish was fresh but the avocado in a few of our rolls was a little south. Next course I had mango chicken. Produce was a little bit better that go around, and the chicken was fair. My other friends’ dishes were similarly good(but not great). Not sure I’d come here again, unless I was recommended a knockout dish.

I really like this place. The décor is interesting without being too Pier 1, and I love the plants lining the windows. The food is the special part, though: it’s fresh, delicious, and different from the standard peanut-and-noodles fare you’ll get at most Thai places. A lot of Thai food falls into the trap of being sticky syrupy crap. This doesn’t. My personal favorite is the ginger and mushroom chicken: vegetables that taste like they were just picked, mushrooms, and tender chicken. The sauce is light and flavorful, and really unlike anything I’ve tasted before. They also have a weird limeade that’s slightly salty but refreshing and surprisingly good; their lime iced tea is worth trying too.

Update: This place just NEVER disappoints and they know how to prepare tofu in a way that a fierce meat eater like myself can enjoy. And I’m all about the curry and I know I can come here and get the good stuff. Thank you Suvarnwhachamacallit for coming to Allston. You provide such good Thai food in an area plagued with bars all serving the same damn food.(What I’ve tried and LOVED: vermicelli thai salad, fried ravioli, thai iced tea, shrimp curry, sticky rice with mango). I swear there’s only 2 waiters at this place, but they do a great job and are very friendly. Don’t pass this up. It’s great, fresh tasting food.

$ 8.95FOR A HUGEASSMEAL F’in A, that’s right! My Order: App: Steamed Shumai Soup: Miso Meal: I don’t remember but it was spicy and good-portion was huge! Drink: Crack-like. No seriously… their coffee gave me palpitations of the synthetic kind. That’s some good shit Verdict: HIT! Place was inviting and service was great… portions are huge and cheap! If you have a weak heart or scare easy… stay away from the coffee

I was really excited to try this place out after Unilocal Workout Club a few weeks back. I love Asian food and had never tried Cambodian. I had trained really hard that day and was hitting the gym again later and needed some nourishment, and this place delivered! The lunch special was an amazing deal, i think it was about $ 8. I got the tom yum chicken soup, some really tasty steamed shumai, and the lemongrass chicken off of the Cambodian menu, which was too oily for my liking, I think next time I will order off of the thai menu. The place was cute and the service was good and so was the food, so i will be back.

Waiiiiiit there’s a lunch special combo menu?! Let me take a look at that! Holy Sh*T! $ 8.95 for a whole meal? That can’t be right… Welll yes siree, they had a combo menu in addition to their regular lunch menu that included their house specialties. This included a soup, appetizer, entrée, and Thai ice tea/coffee. And for $ 1.50 less you can have the same combo minus the iced tea/coffee. My soup — The miso soup is your typical tofu, seaweed, and scallions. My appetizer — Cambodian Spring roll — 3 delicious crispy spring rolls filled with pork, bean treads noodle, carrots & onion, and a sweet orange dipping sauce. My entrée – I wanted to try something different rather than picking my usual curry dishes. Samlor Katee it is! This is a Cambodian dish with either chicken or pork, sauteed with eggplant, string beans, bamboo shoots and sweet basil leaves in a housemade Cambodian green curry. Mind you this is just one of the many dishes available on their lunch special menu. They also have a full lunch and dinner menu, that I would love to return and try out. The house is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly. A return is a must! I can’t wait to try out the other stuff on their menus!

My Lunch: Thai Iced Coffee(Where can I get this shit?! It’s AMAZING!) Tom Yum Goong Soup(Spicy and tasty!) Crab Rangoons(mmmmmmmm deliciously crispy and filled with cream cheese goodness) Pad See Ew(basically drumken noodles but less spicy) And the grand total is… $ 8.95! What?! Are you for reelz?! As Roni said, «How do they make a profit?» I don’t know, but as long as they keep offering $ 8.95 lunch, I’ll be there. —– So this place is a hidden jem in Allston. I always walk by here every time I go to karate and I’ve always been intrigued. So after our Weekly Workout Club, we headed on over. They certainly did not disappoint. The place is really cute, with tons of plants and warm tones that make you feel all nice inside. My only problem was that the server didn’t clear any of the dishes from the table, so it got a little crowded. However, I will definitely be back here. They have such an extensive menu that you can come here hundreds of times and not get the same thing.

I also fell victim to the over-yelpedness of this review before trying it for myself. for a while after it opened, the reviews for this place were consistent 5-star raves, but really, this place is somewhat average. i think the hulabaloo came first and foremost from the fact that it was one of the first in a recent slew of nice® restaurants popping up in allston. and truly, that’s one of its greatest assets — when your parents come to visit, you don’t have to make the trek downtown to have a delicious meal in a nice environment. also, this place has excellent service. i came on a slow night, so i’d expect extra attention, but the waitstaff here had the frequency just right. the waiter was helpful in suggesting dishes, my water was always full, and our doggie bags were filled and bill paid in a timely manner. now, the food. everything we had was great — but not necessarily dishes you can’t get elsewhere. we had a spicy seafood salad(practically identical to the one at Sushiya in Chinatown), the potato puffs(mini samosas, basically), the chili duck(good, but indistinguishable from the tamarind duck at zenna in brookline), and the loc lak beef — which was actually the most unique, with a pleasant lime + black pepper sauce accompaniment. all in all, i’d try suvarnabhumi kiri again, but i’m not going out of my way to heartily recommend it or trek my butt out to allston specifically to eat there.

The best East Asian food I have ever had. Period. If you like Thai, Malaysian or even Indian you owe it to yourself to go here. The flavors were so clean yet complex and deep. My friend who is Cambodian helped order both our meals so that helped though I cannot imagine that anything here is less than spectacular! They have a Thai menu but we skipped straight to the back of the Menu and the Cambodian Fare. I suggest skipping apps or sharing apps because the portions are great and the desserts interesting. I had the Machu Groeung with beef which was a sort of spicy curry and was fantastic! She had the shrimp Cha Groeung which despite the description and name is totally different. It is more of a soupy curry with its own unique flavors and also amazing — I know cause I «tried» a bunch of hers :-) They have brown rice as an option which I personally appreciate so for the health conscious, don’t despair! Finally we had the mango with sticky rice and the banana dumplings, which were steamed in banana leaves! Both were very good. One other nice thing about this place is the tropical greenery — there are plants everywhere which adds to the warm, welcoming environment.

My boyfriend likes sushi, I don’t. This restaurant is perfect for us. He ordered sushi while I went with the Massaman curry with tofu. MY curry was delicious, with perfectly cooked tofu(and a lot of it). His plate of sushi was gone, and he was very happy with the quality of it. We had split an appetizer, curry potato somethings, which were delicious. Perfect level of spice. Between the appetizer and the meal, I was full and so was he. But I couldn’t leave without dessert — mango with sweet sticky rice. I had this once before at another restaurant and couldn’t believe how good it was, and they same held true here. What a fantastic way to end a meal! The service was great and the people friendly. As we left we checked out their buffet(really cheap at around $ 12) and the waitress told us all about it, she was super sweet. While we didn’t order the buffet, I was able to watch it during the night. It was constantly being filled with fresh food, nothing had been sitting there for long, and the people coming in after us were all about it. What a great deal, maybe next time I’ll check it out to try something new, as I’ll definitely be back!

It’s 3am on Halloween night, and all I’m wishing for are some SK leftovers. Really, I would appreciate even that. Okay, okay. I admit it, I’m a pad see ew snob. I praise Osha Thai on 2nd Street in San Francisco and that’s really about it. But when I had the scrumptious S. Kiri specimen I knew my Boston staple had been found. To those of you that consider yourselves the Indian Jones of cuisines, have you had Cambodian on your discerning palates? Well, come here for a taste. Sample the dish with papaya, squash, eggplant and the whole mélange of yummy veggies and name the base for me cuz I spent the whole meal trying to identify it and I couldn’t get beyond the«mmmmmm.» They don’t have me sold on the«upscale»(even though they serve wine) but scare enough BC kids off as there were only two other tables on a Monday night. Fill them up.

You know, this place might get more stars from me if they didn’t serve such highly questionable meat. I suspect my «Sunshine Beef» might have been made with human flesh. Seriously, take a whiff of your own arm, then take a bite of the Sunshine Beef. It takes like what your arm smells like it would taste like. My Avocado Salad was basically California-Roll-In-A-Cup. That’s what they should call it. Our sushi(hamachi nigiri, a sweet potato roll and a spicy hamachi roll) was okay, but I would hesitate to describe it as good. Our Samlor Kako Cambodian pork dish was okay. It lacked fish sauce and the deep flavoring of true Southeast Asian spices. Seems to be my standard complaint about most Southeast Asian restaurants in Boston. Insert sad face here. A Thai & Cambodian Sushi joint that also serves kimchi fried rice? My heart told me «no,» but my foolish faith in Unilocal said«yes.» Conclusion: Unilocalers living in college towns are hungry and will eat anything that tastes mildly edible. Which, apparently, includes human meat.

3.79 stars I snagged a parking spot just across the street, a good omen. Parking is very tough in LA(*). We were the first ones seated at lunch so no ordering issues. The food was out in a jiffy. The spring rolls and crispy scallion pancake were just ok. The Spicy Pad Thai nailed it, it produced the proper amount of eyebrow perspiration. I use Pad Thai as a benchmark dish. The chicken and shrimp were not over cooked which is crucial. Would have liked a few more shrimp in the dish. The Chicken Gaprow was also pleasantly up to the proper spicy heat index, without having to ask before ordering. Both dishes had fresh ingredients, the bean sprouts were crispy, and both were attractively plated. The waiter was attentive but not intrusive. We left a larger tip because we sort of got into the Mac vs Linux(Taste Great-Less Filing) argument and we were a bit too vocal. Only I was having beer(just 1 honest!). * Better than Rod Dee? Décor yes, Cuisine no. I would like to go back with a larger group and try more dishes. * Big room with AC, that was key, very hot and humid this day. * Had never tried Chang Thai beer it was good but I prefer Singha and Tiger. * They have sushi, sorry I don’t do Thai Sushi. Ms. Waitress! Please don’t _____________ — come to our table every 5 minutes to ask us how we’re doing. — come to our table to pick up a dirty plate/utensil every 4 minutes after the 5 minute check-ups. — come to our table to refill water and a simultaneous check up, so many times just as we’ve only taken two little sips. Yes, we’re the only people in the restaurant, but leave us alone. — stretch yourself out and put your head down on the entrance table. The restaurant is empty, but be professional. … Mr. Chef! Please don’t _____________ — put SO much salt in my drunken noodles, pretty please? I do like that it is very spicy. — undercook the veggies in the drunken noodles(raw green beens are just weird) — put undercooked potatoes for the Idaho sushi rolls. How hard is it to cook potatoes? — be a skimp and make such a small roll. … Other thoughts for you S-Kiri: — Are the fish good, since you’re doing both Thai and sushi? You seem to be a good solution to people wanting both. — Please put a warning sign about your toilet– that it does not flush very well. I have a fear of clogged toilets at restaurants. You know, you’d always ask, why ME? … _ _. /_) ‚ And finally… Mr. Fly! Please _____________-:_))) BzzzBzBzzzz — Bug off! You’re annoying us with our meal here. ’ \ _) ‘ Shoo! Shoo! Last note, I wouldn’t come back here, since it failed both at a standard noodle dish and at a simple sushi roll.

Oh my gahhhhh, a nice restaurant in Allston? It can’t be true! Oh, but it is. Our little sextet of friends rolled up to this restaurant(which my Euro-American tongue still can’t pronounce the name of) on Friday night for some noshing before getting our groove on at ‘90s night across the street. To start out with, the servers are very attentive, coming by often to refill our glasses. On a hot, sticky night like last Friday, this was highly appreciated. Service was a little slow, but that was certainly forgivable given the size of our group and the elaborate nature of the food preparation. The restaurant was less crowded than I imagined for a Friday, but that might have been due to the fact that we arrived a little after the dinner rush. The ambience was a very warm, intimate space decorated with dark wood, earth tones, and leafy plants. One wall featured a series of empty picture frames of different shapes and sizes. And the food? The food was phenomenal. Oh yes. I was in a sushi mood, so I ordered from the a la carte menu. My friends and I also shared the chicken satay and sweet potato maki appetizers. Delicious, especially the chicken. My sushi choices were fairly mundane(salmon sashimi, tuna maki, Philly maki, and something else, the name of which escapes me right now), but what I ordered was fantastic. I sampled some of my friends’ selections, including the infamous spicy pepper dish. They were equally yummy. I ended up dropping a little more on dinner than I’d anticipated, but I was out with good company after a long, arduous week, and I figured that a great meal out followed by some drinks would be a better splurge than, say, another pair of shoes. I’ll definitely be back, since it’s sort of in my ‘hood, but I hope it doesn’t become too crowded due to the rave reviews from this site.
