Maytag Self-Serve Laundry

Worst laundromat I have been to. Problems every time I go… Doors won’t lock, dryer heat not working, etc. No one on duty and nowhere to report broken machines. AND they have the highest prices I’ve seen in the Boston area.

TL;DR, it gets the job done.
I decided to write a review because the only others are too negative and outdated. When I moved to Lower Allston I expected this place to suck. It doesn’t.
Four stars because it’s kept clean and operational year round, well lit, decent hours and plenty of machines. I never need to wait for a free machine when I come in on weekends. Knocked off one star because some machines can get testy (doors stay locked after the washer is done) and the prices aren’t ideal, in my opinion. Also, I just don’t like doing laundry. (Joke. Kind of.)
Things:
— change machine by the doorway provides you with quarters
— $ 1.00 for tide, gain, Clorox, and bounty. There’s also a convenience store on the corner.
— washers: $ 3.25, $ 4, $ 7 per machine
— dryers: $.25 per 5 minutes. One wall’s machines look newer than the other’s. I’ve only used the older ones — silly me

Maytag self service was closed when I moved here in September. I was super excited for it to reopen because it is a block away from my house. However I came here for the first time and I am severely disappointed. It costs $ 7.00 to do 1 wash! Yes, the washers are new and fancy and big but that means the company is saving energy and money in the long run. Dryers are OK on price, $ 0.25/ 5min. But I will be avoiding this place.

Expect to lose money and time.
This is the only laundry available to many people in the neighborhood. Most of the machines (washers, dryers, and coin machine) are broken frequently. Every time I am there, I see at least one person waste money and soap on a broken washer. I have lost 4 loads in the past 2 days. There is NO way to contact the owners of the business. No number, name, or address. Customers leave notes stuck to the walls and washers asking for repair or refund. Usually the signs are removed within 24 hours, but the machines are still broken. On any given day, at least 3 washers are broken with no indication. The broken washers «rotate» however — often one that worked previously steals money and a broken one is working again. Several customers have complained about receiving nickels from the quarter dispenser. Using this laundry is a gamble. Customers should expect to spend more than the stated price, as it is impossible to guess which machine will work.
It seems as though this business operates as a purposeful scam to take money without providing service.
