When entering Allenspark Colorado and headed up it was extremely hard to miss the Chapel on the Rock, the official name of which is the Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel. I mean, I was like«What the hell is that?!» What’s odd is that no one seems to know when it was built. It looks like something straight out of Europe maybe 500 years ago, but considering that there are no structures in the United States over 250 years old, if that were true it would mean the Romans were here before good ‘ol discoverer Columbus and we sure can’t go there, right? I’m guessing it’s over 50 years old maybe 100, but the architecture is a striking contrast with anything else in the area with the backdrop of the Rockies. Absolutely beautiful and if memory serves me correctly a Pope blessed it when staying near here. And then it survived a fire a few years back. Whatever you do, if you’re headed up or down Hiway 7 be sure to take the time to stop and take a look at it.
